UM’s two international summer camps draw students globally
The Global Affairs Office of the University of Macau (UM) organised the ‘Summer Camp for Outstanding Students of UM Partner Universities’ and the ‘East Lighthouse Talent Development Scheme – Learning Experience Summer Program for International Students’, which attracted the participation of nearly 100 students from 50 universities around the world. During the summer camps, the students experienced UM’s exceptional learning environment and explored the unique blend of Eastern and Western cultures in Macao.
The participating students came from universities in 12 countries and regions, including UM’s partner universities in mainland China and overseas, as well as member universities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance, and the Alliance for Technology, Innovation, and Talent Development in Western Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area. Ge Wei, vice rector of UM, said that the summer camps allowed students from all over the world to get to know Macao and UM from different angles, and enabled students from different cultural backgrounds to experience university life together, have in-depth exchanges, and develop friendships.
During the summer camps, the students attended a series of talks to gain more insights into Macao. They also took part in Portuguese language classes and Mandarin workshops. In addition, the students visited the Historic Centre of Macao and participated in cultural activities to explore Macao’s unique history and culture. Additionally, they visited UM’s faculties to learn about their flagship programmes. They also experienced first-hand the environment of UM’s residential colleges and engaged in exchanges with UM students, faculty members, and other participants.
