UM English Debating Team is now recruiting new members!

Can you convince others and change their perspectives within just 7 minutes? This is the magnificence of English Debating. Here, debaters need to analyze the debate in depth within 15 minutes, make reasonable judgments, balance different values, conduct benefit analysis, and maintain an open attitude to different views. If you are eager to experience some unique and meaningful activities in college life, come and join University of Macau English Debating Team (UMEDT)!

4. Beginner-friendly environment: For new members, we will provide competitions specially prepared for beginners, and at the same time partnering with experienced senior members to learn from each other and improve abilities.

Benefits and obligations of team members

If you are officially admitted as a member of UMEDT, you can enjoy the following benefits:

• Participate in the team’s training for free and get guidance on debate knowledge.
• Enjoy the opportunity to be recommended to participate in the summer exchange program and obtain subsidies.
• Opportunities to participate in other activities inside and outside the school related to the team.
• Team members with an attendance rate of 80% each academic year can get 400 CS Point in Knowledge Integration.

Team member’s obligations:

• Protect the image of the University of Macau (UM) and English Debating Team (UMEDT).
• Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0.
• Cherish team trainings, uniform, and facilities.
• Respect coaches and teammates.
• Attend training sessions, tournaments, and team affairs punctually.
• Assist in drafting annual team goals and plans.

Recruitment requirements

We hope to recruit students who are enthusiastic about English Debating, understand the importance of teamwork, and can ensure that they attend the weekly training. There’s no limitation of major and enrollment year.
