UM Public Speaking Team 2024/2025 Recruitment (Application deadline: August 22, 2024)
Introduction
UM Public Speaking Team (UMPST), which was founded in 2008, aims to provide an excellent chance for its members to learn public speaking skills, improve English language proficiency, develop creative thinking, enhance the confidence among students in making speeches in public, and promote English on the campus. Proactive attitudes, persistent efforts, a sense of responsibility and teamwork among all the members are the team spirit that we advocate.
We will provide not only professional training but also chances to discover and apply the knowledge gained during training through practicing and communicating in an active atmosphere. Besides speaking, members are also encouraged to THINK as thinking helps generate new ideas and opinions. We also encourage students to observe more local and global issues. Without an understanding of global issues around this changing world and the local issues that everyone should be keenly aware of, the speaker will hardly deliver a substantial and sparkling speech that creates echoes from the audience. We welcome all undergraduates, regardless of nationality, major, and so forth, to join the UM Public Speaking Family!
Activities and Competitions
Aside from weekly training and team activities, the members also represent UM in speech competitions. For instance, in the school year of 2023-24, several of the champions of the 22nd Macao-wide English Speech Contest, 2024 UM-wide English Speech Tournament, and Asian English Olympics have been trained in UMPST, and we also had a member go on to the final rounds of the 21st National Century Cup. In the school year of 2024-25, we plan to join many more public speaking tournaments, including the Macao Youth English Speech Contest, Beijing FLTRP Public Speaking Tournament, and the Asian English Olympics.
Training Schedule
- Every Thursday night from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm;
- Other special trainings according to the university schedule.

- Represent the University of Macau in regional, national, and international competitions

- Those whose attendance is over 80% throughout the whole academic year can get 400 points in the Whole Person Development Award Programme.
Members’ Obligations
- Attend our weekly trainings (and additional training, if applicable);
- Take part in competitions with the mindset of a champion;
- Be an active member who cooperates well with the others in the team;
- Remember and follow the U-Team regulations (will be instructed in Orientation) and instructions from the team coach and leaders.
Requirements
Undergraduate of UM; Interested in public speaking; Good command of both written and spoken English applicants; Hard-working and cooperative; Willing to participate in competitions and team training; Gives time for the team

創立於二○○八年之澳大演講隊，致力提供一個讓同學們學習演講技巧、提高英語能力、培養創造性思維、增強學生公開演說之自信心的平臺以及在校園內推廣英語。積極主動的態度，堅持不懈的努力，責任感和團隊精神都是我們主張的團隊意念。我們不單止為隊員們提供專業的培訓和全面的支持，同時亦讓同學們在互動的學習環境下，通過實踐及交流提高演講的綜合能力。除了「說」，我們亦鼓勵隊員們多思考，因為思考有助於產生新的想法和意念。與此同時，我們也鼓勵學生多觀察和留意地區性以至全球性的資訊。作為一位講者，要了解大眾所知的本地智識，以至時刻在改變的國際形勢，這樣才能把一份演講稿發揮得淋漓盡致，跟聽眾產生共鳴。在此，我們誠邀有抱負、有責任感、願意為澳門大學演講隊爭光的不同專業和國籍的本科生加入澳大演講隊的大家庭！
活動與比賽簡介
除了每週固定的訓練之外，本隊幾乎每年都會組織隊員們一起參加澳門大學校內、英語演講大賽亞洲英語奧林匹克比賽、全澳英語演講大賽、及「21世紀杯」全國英語演講比賽等等。
訓練時間
- 每週四晚上七點半到九點。
- 其他安排依據澳門大學校曆及具體訓練安排調整。
正式隊員可享有以下福利
- 代表澳門大學參加地區、全國和國際比賽。
- 每週接受專業教練指導以及參加國際演講大師工作坊（免費）。
- 享有被推薦參加暑期交流計劃及爭取學校津貼的機會。
- 享有參與與本團相關的校內外其他比賽，活動的機會。
- 每學年出席率達80%的團員可獲全人發展獎勵計劃400個分數。
團員義務
- 準時出席每週的常規訓練及其他額外訓練。
- 以爭取冠軍的決心參加比賽參加比賽。
- 參加澳門大學校內外各項比賽活動。
- 遵守校隊的規則及教練和隊長的指示。
招收要求
澳門大學本科生
英語水平較高者、對演講有熱情、勤奮有責任心、
積極參加各項活動比賽，且能夠準時出席訓練者優先招收。
