The latest issue of e-version My UM (Dec issue) is available!
In 1999, Macao returned to its motherland China, marking a pivotal moment that brought transformative changes to the city and unprecedented development opportunities for its people. UM was no exception; it was poised to embark on a new historical era. In this Feature Stories article, five UM members who have been with the university since 1999 share their stories and experiences that highlight the transformations of both UM and Macao SAR (Click here for the article).
A three-centimetre-long electronic insect scuttles across a dark, maze-like disaster simulation area, carrying out instructions to aid in rescue operations with flexible and agile movements. This is a demonstration conducted by Prof Zhong Junwen. The electronic insect is one of the flexible robots Prof Zhong developed in the Soft Sensors-Actuators-Robots Laboratory at UM. In this People’s Stories article, this young up-and-coming scholar shares how he advances research in flexible smart materials to equip robots with the ability to transmit tactile sensations (Click here for the article).
A charismatic show host, an articulate debater, and a competent translator—these roles may not be typically associated with a young woman in her early twenties. Yet, Queenie Chan Sio Kuan, a fourth-year student majoring in Portuguese studies at UM, excels in all these roles. Embodying the wisdom of the Chinese proverb, ‘One minute of glory on stage requires ten years of hard work off stage,’ Queenie finds deep fulfilment in her journey learning Portuguese. She shares how she has developed a diverse set of skills in the world of the Portuguese language in this People’s Stories article. (Click here for the article).

1999年,澳門回歸祖國,這一歷史性時刻不僅為這座城市帶來翻天覆地的變化,更為生活在這座城的人們帶來了前所未有的發展機遇。從這一刻開始,澳門大學亦邁上了新的歷史征程,今期「專題報導」將駛著時光機,載上五位自1999年與澳大同行的師生,分享25年來與澳大共成長、與澳門特區共發展的故事(按此瀏覽文章)。
一款身長僅3厘米的電子昆蟲,穿梭於漆黑一片、仿如迷宮的模擬災難現場,執行多項協助救援的指令,動作靈活敏捷,而背後的示範操作者,正是年輕有為的鍾俊文教授,他亦是今期「人物故事」的主角。電子昆蟲是鍾教授開發的其中一款柔性機器人,是依託大學「柔性傳感器—執行器—機器人實驗室」資源的科研成果。目前,鍾教授正積極推進柔性智能材料的研究,致力賦予智能機器人隔空「摸」物的能力(按此瀏覽文章)。
