Jointly organized by the University of Macau (UM) and the Chinese Society of Education (CSE), the 2nd batch of Macao Training Programme for Primary and Secondary School Principals and Teachers was successfully held from 9 to 15 April 2025. A total of 38 primary and secondary school principals and teachers from Mainland China and Macao convened in Macao to participate in the 7-day intensive training programme. The programme aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of latest development in Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the education sector and to foster collaboration and exchanges among educational practitioners from Mainland China and Macao. 

During the programme, participants attended a series of lectures delivered by professors from Faculty of Education covering diverse topics related to AI and K-12 education. They also visited three local schools in Macao, including Pui Ching Middle School, Escola Fukin and Lou Hau High School to learn about  their practical experiences and achievements in AI and STEM education. Visits to the State Key Laboratory of Smart City Internet of Things at UM and the Macao Science Center further enhanced participants’ understanding of cutting-edge technologies and their applications in non-tertiary education. Additionally, participants visited the Education and Youth Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government to gain insights into the current status and unique characteristics of Macao’s educational development and met the representatives from the Chinese Educators Association of Macau for academic exchange. 

At the graduation ceremony on April 15, group representatives shared their learning experiences and reflections. Participants highlighted that the programme had prompted them to rethink new directions for school development and emerging needs for teacher professional development. They acknowledged the programme as a valuable platform for exchanging ideas and inspiring educational reforms. Notably, participants praised the innovation and enthusiasm in STEM education demonstrated by Macao schools and expressed their intention to apply these experiences to their own schools. Prof. Lianghuo FAN, Dean of the Faculty of Education presented graduation certificates to all participants, encouraging them to implement the knowledge they learned from this training programme in future educational practices. He also expressed hope for sustained communication and collaboration with participants’ schools in academic research and teaching practices.
