To deepen educational collaboration between Macao and Xiushui and promote cultural interaction, Master, Prof. Kwok-cheung Cheung and Resident Fellow, Alice Hong of Moon Chun Memorial College, University of Macau led a group of 12 students to Jiangxi for an experiential learning exchange trip from 25^th May to 31^st May, 2025.

The group immersed in a two-day cultural collaboration with Aoyuan Middle School, in Heshi Town, Xiushui County. Alice Hong shared strategies for enhancing competency in “cultural engagement” through educational practice and showcased experiences in promoting Macao’s world heritage and intangible cultural heritage. Teacher at Aoyuan Middle School explained the relevance of integrating local cultural elements into school-based curricula and moral education, creating programs rich in “virtuous filial piety” culture. What’s more, MCM College students organized and hosted a Portuguese Tile Painting workshop, introducing Aoyuan students to the history and artistic value of this intangible cultural heritage. The exchange activities also included joint preparation of traditional Xiushui delicacies, such as Shaozi, rice cakes and rice dumplings, allowing participants to gain deeper insights into the region’s culinary traditions.

In addition, the group visited the former residences of Huang Tingjian and the five Chen brothers, exploring their lives and cultural contributions. Through guided tours at Tengwang Pavilion, hands-on experiences in tea picking and inkstone making, they further deepened their understanding of local culture. Additionally, the group visited the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Museum, the site of the Battle of Huangyangjie, and the former residence of Comrade Mao Zedong in Ciping to revisit revolutionary history, paying tribute to martyrs at the Beishan Martyrs’ Cemetery. They also visited Gaofeng Academy, Bailuzhou Academy and Shigu Academy to explore the development and educational significance of ancient Chinese colleges.

This exchange trip proved fruitful in cultural engagement, and also enriched their understanding of China’s revolutionary history and ancient college culture. MCM College will continue to strengthen its collaboration with Aoyuan Middle School, jointly promoting the integration of education and culture to create more enriching learning experiences for students.
