UM students receive awards at Greater Bay Area International Communication Competition for College Students

Students from the University of Macau (UM) achieved outstanding results in the First Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Communication Competition for College Students. The competition attracted 206 teams from 33 higher education institutions across mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao, receiving nearly 250 entries. A total of 50 entries were selected for awards after a rigorous evaluation by judges.

The awards ceremony was held at Sun Yat-sen University on 17 May. A team of communication students from the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS)—Chen Ziqi, Sui Xinyi, and Wang Yixin—won a third prize in the ‘written reports’ category for their entry, ‘Fusion Strings: Macao’s Traditional Chinese Music Weaves East-West Narratives’. Their work showcased Macao’s cultural identity through Chinese music. Another team—comprising Sui Xinyi and Wang Yanbo, also communication students from FSS; Tong Hou Un, a business intelligence and data analytics student from the Faculty of Business Administration; and Liu Zixiao, a mathematics student from the Faculty of Science and Technology—won a third prize in the ‘audio and video works’ category for their entry ‘Looking at Macao with the Third Eye’. Their work highlighted Macao’s social stability and prosperity under the ‘one country, two systems’ policy through the lens of a foreigner. Che Hio Ieong, senior instructor in FSS, and Chan Io Ieong, resident fellow of Ma Man Kei and Lo Pak Sam College, were the supervisors of the two teams respectively.
