MCM College Dom Pedro V House Cultural Excursion: Exploring Timeless Legacies With Dimoo
To help participants gain an in-depth understanding of the high historical and artistic value of Macau’s World Heritage Site, University of Macau Moon Chun Memorial College Dom Pedro V House successfully organized a thematic visit to the Dom Pedro V Theatre on September 14, 2025. Attracting 25 students to actively participate, the scene was filled with a focused and exploratory atmosphere. The event aimed to allow participants to fully experience the unique charm of this oldest Western-style theater in Macau and understand its underlying historical and cultural context through an experiential format.
The event was designed around two core segments: historical exploration and fun check-in, combining educational and interactive elements. Participants first took a unified bus ride to Grand Lisboa, then walked to visit Senado Square and Leal Senado Building along the way. With explanations from student leaders, they learned about the historical backgrounds of these buildings. The core segment was the in-depth visit to the Dom Pedro V Theatre, where student leader detailed its construction history dating back to 1860, the origin of its name in honor of King Peter V of Portugal, and the exquisite European-style details inside the theater, such as retro carvings and stage design.
Subsequently, the “Landmark Check-in Challenge” brought the event to a climax. Participants were divided into 4 groups, each led by a student assistant to complete the task: each group needed to plan their own route, find the corresponding locations near the theater’s surrounding landmarks to take photos according to the tips in the pictures, and the group that returned to the Dom Pedro V Theatre in the shortest time ultimately won. In addition, since there are popular photo spots nearby, the event also specially set aside time for participants to freely explore the surrounding landmarks and take photos as memoirs.
Participants unanimously stated that through the process of “first understanding the background, then conducting an in-depth visit, and finally engaging in fun exploration,” they not only systematically acquired the historical and artistic knowledge of the Dom Pedro V Theatre but also deepened their understanding of the surrounding cultural landmarks through the check-in game, making the entire experience both fulfilling and enjoyable.
