MCM College: Mandarin House Cultural Excursion – A Glimpse into Macao’s Historical Heritage

On 13^th September, 2025, Mandarin House of Moon Chun Memorial College, University of Macau, organized a cultural excursion to the Mandarin House, attracting 20 enthusiastic students for an in-depth cultural exploration. The event aimed to guide students in learning about the life and contributions of Zheng Guanying, a renowned modern Chinese thinker and author of Words of Warning in Times of Prosperity.

The excursion began with a guided tour of the Zheng Family Mansion, where students experienced firsthand the historical space that blends Chinese and Western architectural styles. Through the artifacts and documents displayed inside the mansion, students gained an initial understanding of Zheng Guanying’s life path and the social context of his era. Following the tour, the group visited the Zheng Guanying Memorial Museum, where they systematically explored the evolution of his thoughts, especially the formation of key ideas such as “Learning from the West to resist the West.” The museum’s rich historical materials, images, and multimedia displays helped students deeply grasp the governance philosophies and strong patriotic sentiments embedded in Words of Warning in Times of Prosperity. During the free exploration session, students actively exchanged views with peers, further deepening their understanding and appreciation of Zheng Guanying’s patriotic spirit.

After the event, the resident fellow and students strolled through the historic district of Rua da Praia do Manduco, experiencing local life and savoring authentic Macao cuisine at a local tea restaurant, further immersing themselves in the local cultural atmosphere. This cultural journey not only enhanced students’ understanding of Macao’s historical heritage but also laid a solid foundation for future cultural experience activities organized by the college, continuously promoting student engagement and identification with local culture.
