The term “nation state” is frequently encountered in political science and international relations academic discourse in China. But what does it actually mean, and what is its precise English equivalent? In fact, its use in Chinese academia reflects a historical misunderstanding. Let us work together to trace the origins of this concept and clarify its true meaning.
