CCE organizes a Training Program for a Teacher Delegation from Guangzhou Institute of Science and Technology

The University of Macau (UM) Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) organized a “Training Course on Teaching Innovation and Reform for Backbone Teachers” for teachers from Guangzhou Institute of Science and Technology (GZIST) during November 1 to 3, 2025. A delegation of 42 teachers gathered on UM’s campus for a three-day immersive learning experience, designed to boost their international teaching capacity and inject fresh momentum into educational innovation.

At the opening ceremony, Ms. Zhang Shimei, Vice President and Trade Union Chairman of Guangzhou Institute of Science and Technology, highlighted the talent-nurturing mission enshrined in both universities’ mottos and the importance of inheriting traditional culture, urging teachers to translate the workshop’s insights into classroom practice and lend strong support to GZIST’s high-quality development and outstanding talent cultivation. The workshop featured rich, focused content—covering topics like fostering teaching creativity, instructional methodologies, classroom management, and cross-cultural competence—delivered by UM’s distinguished scholars and experts. Participants actively engaged in group discussions, exchanging ideas freely with the lecturers. During the campus tour, they visited the UM Gallery, the UM Library, and college guided by student ambassadors, followed by a tour of SKL-IOTSC.

GZIST is a full-time undergraduate institution accredited by China’s Ministry of Education. A dynamic local application-oriented university, it was founded in 2000, became an independent college offering undergraduate programs in 2006, and was restructured and renamed Guangzhou University of Technology and Engineering with the Ministry’s approval in 2020. Strategically located in the core of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Pearl River Delta, GZIST operates three campuses in Baiyun District, Zengcheng District (Guangzhou), and Boluo County (Huizhou). It is among Guangdong’s first batch of private universities approved for master’s degree program development (8 province-wide), one of the first three private universities eligible for joint postgraduate training, and one of only two private universities rated “Excellent” in the provincial annual inspection.

Since 2023, GZIST has sent students to UM for cross-border training on multiple occasions, and this teacher training marks a further step forward in bilateral cooperation. CCE will continue to roll out high-quality training programs, advancing educational collaboration and talent exchange between Guangdong and Macau to forge a new chapter of win-win cooperation among Greater Bay Area universities.
