UM awards scholarships to over 400 outstanding students

The University of Macau (UM) held the Scholarship Presentation Ceremony 2025. During the ceremony, the university presented scholarships and academic prizes to 430 students in recognition of their outstanding performances.

UM Vice Rector Mok Kai Meng thanked the donors for the scholarships and academic prizes. He said that with the strong support of the central government and the Macao SAR government, UM, a university rooted in Macao and committed to going global, has developed into a comprehensive research-oriented university of international standing. The university adopts a ‘4-in-1’ collaborative whole-person education model underpinned by its faculties and residential colleges, attracting outstanding faculty and students from around the world to Macao. As the first higher education institution in Macao to extend teaching activities to the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, UM is accelerating the development of its campus there. The university is dedicated to deepening industry-academia collaborative innovation and establishing a new paradigm for the integrated development of higher education in the Greater Bay Area. Mok encouraged the recipients to maintain their passion for learning, stay true to their aspirations for excellence, and uphold the national interest by integrating their personal growth with the country’s development. He expressed hope that the students will serve society with their knowledge, give back to their alma mater through their actions, and become key contributors to advancing Macao’s progress and human civilisation.

To encourage students to strive for excellence in their studies, UM provided over 70 scholarships and academic prizes in the 2024/2025 academic year. Throughout the year, UM received donations totalling over MOP 4.7 million from more than 50 institutions and individuals, benefiting over 470 students. Some of the academic prizes were presented at the Academic Prize Presentation Ceremony held earlier this year.

During the ceremony, 430 UM students received scholarships totalling around MOP 4.3 million, donated by more than 50 institutions and individuals.
