MCM College: Promoting health through the ancient practice of Taijiquan

On Friday evening, 16th January, 2026, MCM College transformed its dining hall into a ‘wu guan’ – a Chinese martial arts hall. The setting was made possible under close collaboration with Camões House resident Tutor, Gabriela Silva and college affiliate, Prof. S.H. Kong (FBA), who graciously introduced Master Lai Hong 賴宏師傅, founder of Macau Longfei Wushu Association (澳門龍飛武術學會) to students across the RC community.
Taijiquan, often known as Tai Chi, is a gentle Chinese martial art renowned for its slow, flowing movements and deep breathing. Unlike intense exercises, it is a low-impact, meditative practice suitable for all ages and fitness levels. By performing its continuous, graceful forms, one can improve balance, flexibility, and strength while significantly reducing stress and enhancing mental focus, making it a holistic exercise for both body and mind.

Master Lai has long practiced traditional Chinese martial arts, specializing in the lineage of Xingyiquan, Baguazhang, Taijiquan, and Wudang Sword passed down from Sun Lutang, Li Yulin, and Li Tianji. To further promote internal martial arts, Master Lai attended the First National Xingyiquan Coaches Training Course in Taiyuan, Shanxi, in 1998. He founded the Macau Xingyiquan Association in 2005, and the Macau Baguazhang Association in 2007. He also served as martial arts instructor for several community organizations, conducted coach-training programs, and actively encouraged members to participate in activities promoting Chinese martial arts, community affairs, and charity events. Under his guidance, students have achieved notable success in Macau martial arts competitions.
The activity consists of ten one-hour long workshops, and will conclude on Monday, 9th February, 2026.
