CCE and HKU SPACE co-organized an “AI+” Training Course for students from Beijing Institute of Technology
The Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) of the University of Macau (UM), in collaboration with the HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education (HKU SPACE), hosted an “AI+ Thematic Training Course” for 25 outstanding students from the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) in Hong Kong and Macao from January 19 to 24, 2026. The delegation was led by Professor Xu Houbao, Vice Dean of the School of Future Technology at BIT; Wang Ru, Assistant to the President of the Zhuhai Campus and Dean of the Graduate School; and Hu Bo, Academic Officer of Xu Teli School.
The six-day program featured a compact schedule with a series of specialized lectures and field visits delivered entirely in English. The topics covered in Hong Kong and Macao closely followed cutting-edge trends and regional development, including “AI and Research Translation”, “Trends in Information and Automation”, “Data Science”, “Development Opportunities in the Greater Bay Area” and “Applications of AI in Smart Buildings, Smart Grids, and Smart Cities”. This curriculum allowed students to gain a deeper understanding of frontier technologies and interdisciplinary integration in the two cities while experiencing high-quality international teaching. During the campus tour at UM, students visited the Currency Museum and the Gaming Laboratory at FBA to learn about Macao’s currency history and its leading industry. They also visited SKL-IOTSC to learn about UM’s top-tier research facilities and achievements in smart cities and IoT.
At the closing ceremony, Prof. XU Houbao stated that the participating students were outstanding scholars selected through a rigorous process and encouraged them to integrate the knowledge gained into their future studies. Prof. Matthew LIU, Director of CCE, expressed a warm welcome for BIT faculty and students to visit UM again to further deepen academic exchange and cooperation.
Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) originated from the Academy of Natural Sciences founded in Yan’an in 1940. It was the first science and engineering university founded by the Communist Party of China. BIT has been a key university in all national construction phases, being among the first batch to enter the national “211 Project” and “985 Project,” and selected as a Class A university in the “World First-Class University” initiative. It is currently affiliated with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
This training program marks another collaboration with HKU SPACE. Through cross-city academic exchange, CCE aims to continuously promote the development of a new model of continuing education cooperation linking Beijing, Hong Kong, and Macao within the Greater Bay Area, further strengthening deep cooperation in talent cultivation between Chinese mainland and Hong Kong/Macao universities.
