Chao Kuang Piu College Organizes Hong Kong Hiking Trip for Macao Primary Students Through Community Engagement Program
Chao Kuang Piu College is expanding its Community Engagement Project through a partnership with Escola Dom João Paulino (EDJP) to promote outdoor education, taking primary six students beyond the classroom for experiential learning.
The project began with foundational instruction in natural science, hiking and camping at Escola Dom João Paulino and local sites in Macao. Students received hands-on guidance in natural science from instructor Fong Kin Keong, the EDJP teaching team and student leaders from Chao Kuang Piu College’s Me to We Leadership Adventure Program (MTW).
On Jan. 24, 2026, students completed a section of the Lantau Trail in Hong Kong under team supervision, a five-hour trek that marked a first for the participants. The challenge tested physical endurance while teaching perseverance, mutual support and teamwork through group activities. Students shared food and water as they encouraged one another along the route. Participants said that despite fatigue, they were grateful to experience the scenic views throughout the journey.
Student representatives from Chao Kuang Piu College’s Me to We Leadership Adventure Program said the activity effectively strengthened students’ physical and mental resilience, supporting their holistic development both inside and outside the classroom.
The Community Engagement Project has received strong backing from the principals of both Escola Dom João Paulino and Chao Kuang Piu College. The MTW Team at Chao Kuang Piu College and teachers from EDJP jointly designed the program framework to extend educational principles from the classroom into nature, providing students with distinctive growth experiences and enriching their learning journeys. The initiative aims to foster positive interaction between higher and primary education while establishing a model for community educational collaboration.
