On the evening of January 29th, Choi Kai Yau College hosted a Dumpling-Making Workshop in collaboration with Ms. Lin Huixia, the Teaching Fellow from UM Confucius Institute. The event aimed to promote inclusivity, better engage and support international students, and foster connections with local peers.
Participants gathered to knead dough, roll wrappers, and fill and boil dumplings, experiencing the charm of traditional Chinese food culture in a warm, festive atmosphere. Ms. Lin introduced the origins, cultural meanings, and regional variations of dumplings, while the organizing RTRAs prepared each element by hand to ensure authenticity.
During the hands-on session, students enthusiastically crafted creatively shaped “custom dumplings”. As they worked and dined together, they shared stories and laughter, strengthening bonds and embodying a spirit of reunion.
Ngọc Uyên Nguyễn, an international student from Vietnam, remarked, “My first time making dumplings—so fun and adorable! Thank you, CKYC, for this meaningful activity that brought us closer and taught us about a traditional Chinese dish.”
More than just a cooking lesson, the workshop served as a bridge for cultural exchange. It allowed international students to experience Chinese culture firsthand and helped all participants feel a greater sense of belonging to the College.
