Chao Kuang Piu College Hosts Annual Exchange with Zhejiang University on AI and Innovation

Chao Kuang Piu College (CKPC) of the University of Macau completed its annual exchange with the “Morningside Cultural China” student and faculty group from Zhejiang University on January 30, continuing a tradition of academic and cultural collaboration between the two institutions established in 2015. This year’s program, themed “Innovation,” combined on-campus discussions with community visits across Macao, exploring the intersection of technology and humanities in the artificial intelligence (AI) era.

The morning session at CKPC featured a World Café discussion titled “Upholding Humanities and Symbiosis in Innovation in the AI Era.” College Master Dr. Lau Yun Tung opened the event with welcoming remarks emphasizing innovation’s role in contemporary education.

Participants engaged in three rounds of small-group dialogues examining AI’s integration into daily life, tensions between technological efficiency and human creativity, and strategies for achieving human-machine symbiosis. The discussions addressed both the convenience of smart applications and concerns about technology’s potential to diminish human connection, exacerbate inequality, and threaten privacy.

Following the World Café, Dr. Lau delivered a talk titled “Heading Toward the Ivory Tower,” drawing on his personal experiences to encourage students to maintain independent thinking in the AI era. He urged participants not to allow AI language models to shape them into models lacking autonomous innovation. CKPC students then led a guided tour of the college’s facilities.

The afternoon featured visits to two Macao institutions. The group toured the Macao Medical Center of Peking Union Medical College (PUMC Macao Medical Center), accompanied by the Coordinator of the Hospital Affairs Department and staff from the Office of the Hospital Director. The tour included the main hospital building, the Radiotherapy Center, the International Medical Center, and a case exhibition in the Comprehensive Services Administrative Building, demonstrating how medical innovation combines technological precision with humanistic care. The exchange concluded at Cloé Jewelry & Art, a concept store where founder Cloe shared her entrepreneurial journey, offering participants insight into Macao’s cultural and creative industries.

Chao Kuang Piu College of the University of Macau plans to continue organizing similar exchange opportunities to help youth navigate the balance between technological advancement and humanistic values.
