CKPC Down Syndrome Buddy Group Joins Hands with Macao Down Syndrome Association to Hold Gold Leaf Painting Activity
On the afternoon of January 31, 2026, Chao Kuang Piu College’s Down Syndrome Buddy Group collaborated with the Macao Down Syndrome Association to hold a meaningful gold leaf painting activity. During the event, children with Down syndrome completed delicate gold leaf paintings with the assistance of college volunteers. This activity not only helped enhance the children’s hand-eye coordination but also conveyed social care and warm companionship through interaction.
A day before the activity, the group members gathered for a rehearsal and prepared materials in advance, including gold leaf paper, black cardstock, pattern cards, and related tools. On the day of the event, as the children arrived, volunteers guided them step by step into the hands-on creation. In a relaxed and joyful atmosphere, mutual understanding and trust were quickly established between the volunteers and the children.
During the instructional session, the volunteers used simple language accompanied by gestures to explain the steps of the process: from sketching the design and applying adhesive to attaching the gold leaf, removing excess foil, and framing the artwork. Each step was carefully demonstrated. With one-on-one guidance from the volunteers, the children focused intently on sketching, meticulously applied the adhesive, and delightfully attached the gold leaf, showcasing both a keen interest in traditional Chinese craftsmanship and a serious, attentive attitude.
After completing their works, the children admired their creations together with their families, their faces glowing with a sense of accomplishment and joy. The entire activity was both engaging and harmonious, with participants continuously encouraging one another and sharing their experiences, further strengthening their emotional bonds.
Chao Kuang Piu College’s Down Syndrome Buddy Group expressed that in the future, they will continue to uphold their original spirit of service, devote more patience and care, and plan diverse activities to bring ongoing warmth to children with Down syndrome, allowing love to be passed on continuously.
