On 27 February 2026, a delegation from the Faculty of Education (FED) of the University of Macau (UM) visited the Tin Ka Ping Foundation in Hong Kong for an exchange meeting. The two sides held in-depth discussions on educational collaboration and development, further strengthening their partnership and laying a solid foundation for future joint efforts to promote high-quality education.
The Tin Ka Ping Foundation warmly received the UM delegation. Representatives of the Foundation attending the meeting included Mr. Wing Sin TIN, Chairman of the Board; Dr. Pong-yiu YUEN, Executive Chairman, Mr. David DAY, Chief Executive, and Ms. Trista LAU, Executive Secretary. Members of the UM delegation included Prof. Lianghuo FAN, Dean and Director of Centre for STEM and AI Education of FED; Prof. Dongbo ZHANG, Associate Dean (Teaching and Curriculum Development) and Programme Coordinator of Doctor of Education; Prof. Shulin YU, Assistant Dean (Student Affairs) and Director of Centre for Language and Literacy Education; Director Yuk Yee LAM and Ms. Mei Kun KUOK, Senior Administrative Assistant of the Alumni and Development Office.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dean Fan expressed, on behalf of FED, sincere gratitude to the Tin Ka Ping Foundation for its long-standing support. He then provided a detailed introduction on the latest developments at UM and FED, highlighting FED’s recent achievements in academic research and teaching quality. He specifically noted the Faculty’s steady rise in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by subject, currently ranking 83rd globally in Education. Dean Fan also introduced FED’s educational goals, academic programmes, and curriculum design and emphasized its core mission: to cultivate outstanding educational and research talents who serve Macau, the Greater China region, and the world. The Faculty, he noted, is actively engaged with the community in promoting the sharing of educational resources and contributing to the high-quality development of basic education.
Prof. Zhang then presented a report on the implementation of the Tin Ka Ping Scholarship. He noted that since the scholarship was established, FED has strictly followed the Foundation’s requirements in selecting recipients. Scholarship awardees have consistently demonstrated outstanding academic performance and excellent personal qualities, with remarkable achievements in both their studies and social practice. Prof. Zhang also expressed heartfelt thanks to the Foundation for its generous support, noting that the scholarship not only provides financial assistance to outstanding students but also reflects the Foundation’s philanthropic spirit of promoting education and nurturing talent, inspiring students to pursue excellence and contribute to society.
After hearing the report, Dr. Yuen and Mr. Day highly commended and warmly congratulated FED on its recent achievements. Dr. Yuen noted that since its establishment in 1982, the Foundation has remained committed to promoting moral education, carrying forward Chinese culture, and improving the quality of education in China. In recent years, it has increasingly focused on supporting initiatives that enhance the substance and quality of education. He remarked that FED’s development philosophy is highly aligned with the Foundation’s mission. Mr. Day added that the two sides enjoy broad prospects for collaboration and expressed the hope that the visit would further strengthen communication and cooperation.
During the meeting, the two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on several potential areas of collaboration, focusing on three key directions. First, they explored AI-related professional development programmes for primary and secondary school teachers, drawing on the Foundation’s previous experience in generative AI teacher development to enhance teachers’ digital teaching capacity. Second, they discussed training programmes for principals of Tin Ka Ping secondary schools, with a view to integrating resources from both sides to strengthen school leadership and management. Third, they considered school improvement initiatives for Tin Ka Ping secondary schools, with the aim of jointly exploring effective pathways for the high-quality development of basic education and continuously enhancing school quality.
During the visit, Mr. Day also led the UM delegation on a tour of the Tin Ka Ping Foundation and introduced its development history, founding mission, charitable endeavors, and the inspiring story of Dr. Ka Ping TIN’s entrepreneurial success and his dedication to support education through philanthropy. The delegation members listened attentively and expressed deep admiration for Dr. Tin’s spirit of selfless contribution to give back to society, as well as a deeper understanding of the Foundation’s outstanding contributions to educational philanthropy across mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan over the past decades.
The visit not only deepened mutual understanding and friendship between FED and the Tin Ka Ping Foundation but also identified key directions for future collaboration. Both sides expressed their commitment to further strengthening ties to advance practical cooperation, leverage their respective strengths, and jointly contribute to the improvement of education quality, the cultivation of outstanding talent, and the promotion to foster cross-regional exchange and development in education.
