Phishing Text Messages:

  1. Scammers would send out different types of phishing text messages while impersonating a variety of communication apps, consumer rewards platforms, online payment platforms, or government department websites;
  2. They often use reasons such as “expiring reward points” or “account irregularities” to lure the recipients into clicking the embedded links, and entering their information such as credit card details, social media account credentials, or e‑payment platform passwords;
  3. Afterwards, they will use the stolen credit card details or e‑payment information to make unauthorized transactions, or use the social media accounts to commit further scams.
