On Saturday, 7^th March, 2026, Camões House held a special pottery DIY experience activity in Hengqin. The aim of the activity was to enrich students’ extracurricular life, enhance cultural engagement and hands-on skills, and foster the integration of knowledge and practice, The event drew enthusiastic participation from students, who were able to delve into the unique charm of traditional Chinese handicrafts through creative hands-on making and enjoyed a warm and engaging cultural experience together.

There were professional instructors on site to deliver detailed guidance for complete beginners. From clay kneading, wheel throwing and shaping, to trimming and polishing, as well as creative glazing and painting, every step was carefully demonstrated and patiently explained. Students were fully immersed in their creations, infusing their imagination into the clay to craft unique pottery pieces of their own. Through kneading, shaping, molding and decorating, participants not only acquired fundamental pottery techniques but also gained an in-depth appreciation of the cultural essence of traditional pottery, effectively combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience.

By using pottery as a cultural bridge, the activity brought outstanding traditional Chinese culture closer to young people in a lively and interactive way. It greatly enriched students’ spare time, sharpened their practical and creative thinking abilities, and ignited their passion for exploring and creating with traditional culture.

The pottery DIY workshop concluded successfully, providing valuable experience for the college in organizing featured cultural events. Moving forward, Camões House will continue to develop a variety of innovative and meaningful experiential activities, build a solid platform for cultural exchange and personal growth, and encourage students to embrace cultural heritage and pursue all-round development through diverse learning opportunities.
