Design Education in the UK: its Origins and its Future

Abstract｜摘要

This lecture briefly traces the history of design education in the UK from the early 19th century, and its gradual transformation throughout the 20th century. This history will examine the philosophical background to the principle of design and will explain why the particular flavour of design education in Warwick has developed as it has.

本講座簡要追溯英國設計教育自19世紀初以來的發展歷程，並探討其於20世紀的逐步轉變。透過回顧相關歷史，講者將檢視設計原則背後的哲學基礎，並說明華威大學當前所形成之設計教育特色的發展脈絡。

Biography｜講者簡介

Dr Jane Webb is Head of the School for Cross-Faculty Studies at the University of Warwick. This is an interdisciplinary school that teaches subjects with a focus on sustainability across economic, social, and environmental dimensions. Jane is an anthropologist by training but has taught in traditional design schools for nearly thirty years. Since joining Warwick three years ago, she and her team have been developing a new design course within this dynamic interdisciplinary context.

Jane Webb博士現任英國華威大學跨學院研究學院院長。該學院為一個跨學科學院，其教學重點涵蓋經濟、社會及環境層面的可持續發展。Jane為人類學家，並於傳統設計學院任教近三十年。三年前加入華威大學後，她與團隊正於此充滿活力的跨學科環境中發展全新的設計課程。
