MCM College: “Peer Research and Learning” Programme

From November 2025 to April 2026, Moon Chun Memorial College, University of Macau and Huitong College, Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai, jointly organized a “Peer Research and Learning” Programme. This initiative marked a significant milestone in interregional and interdisciplinary talent cultivation, signifying a new stage of collaboration between the two institutions.
Centered on the guidance of graduate student peer mentors, the programme adopted a blended learning approach that integrated themed, self-directed, and experiential learning. A cross-university research group was formed to foster in-depth academic exchange and cultural dialogue among students from diverse backgrounds. Each research group consisted of eight students, including four from MCM College and four from Huitong College, encouraging collaboration across disciplines and the integration of multiple perspectives. On 16th November, 2025, MCM College group members visited Huitong College for an academic exchange and research discussions. Following extensive deliberation, the two groups jointly identified AI-Based Psychological Counseling as their research theme.
Throughout the five-month research process, graduate student peer mentors provided continuous guidance, assisting the group with research design, thematic exploration, in-depth discussions, and the consolidation of research outcomes. On 18th April, 2026, student representatives from both colleges presented their study, “AI-Based Psychological Counselling Use Among University Students in Zhuhai and Macau: Current Conditions and Influencing Factors,” at the Student Forum of the Third Academic and Cultural Festival at BNU at Zhuhai. Employing a mixed-methods research design, the study systematically examined the underlying mechanisms linking university students’ psychological needs with their use of AI-based psychological counselling technologies. It further proposed insightful, coordinated recommendations at the individual, platform, and institutional levels. The presentation was well received and highly commended by attending faculty and students.
Looking ahead, both colleges will continue to deepen their collaboration by further refining programme content and formats and expanding cross-university learning platforms. Through these efforts, they aim to provide students with more diverse and forward-looking learning experiences, while jointly nurturing a new generation of young scholars equipped with global perspectives, critical thinking abilities, and innovative spirit.
