澳門大學將於5月12日舉辦“大學講壇”講座，由2023年電機電子工程師學會（IEEE）主席暨首席執行官、美國維珍尼亞理工大學高級研究院院長賽義夫‧拉赫曼（Saifur Rahman）就“科技工作者在促進氣候可持續發展中的作用”為題發表演說。講座將線上線下同步舉行，歡迎有興趣人士參加。
賽義夫‧拉赫曼是美國維珍尼亞理工大學高級研究院創院院長、電氣與計算機工程約瑟夫‧洛靈（Joseph Loring）冠名教授，並領導能源和全球環境研究中心。他是IEEE終身會士和千禧傑出獎章得獎者，擔任2023年IEEE主席暨首席執行官，並曾在2018年及2019年擔任IEEE電子和能源協會主席。他也是《IEEE電氣化雜誌》和《IEEE可持續能源學報》創刊主編，曾發表150多篇期刊論文，作過500多場會議及特邀演講。
是次講座，拉赫曼將分析實現“碳減排”這一全球共同目標，須處理好工業化國家與新興經濟體之間的矛盾關係，並探討雙方的合作，共同規劃出一套系統性的解決方案，包括先進的低碳發電、儲能、需求側管理及能效提升技術。

UM invites IEEE president to give talk on climate sustainability
The University of Macau (UM) on Friday 12 May will hold a talk titled ‘Technologists’ Role in Addressing Climate Sustainability’. Saifur Rahman, president and CEO of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for 2023 and director of the Advanced Research Institute at Virginia Tech in the United States, will be the guest speaker. During the talk, he will examine the global objective of achieving carbon reduction and explore how to address the conflicting relationship between industrialised countries and emerging economies. He will also discuss the importance of cooperation between both sides to create a systematic solution that includes advanced low-carbon power generation, energy storage, demand-side management, and energy efficiency improvement technologies.
The talk will begin at 3:00pm and will be conducted in English. All are welcome.
