CKYC Students and Staff Participated in Service Learning at Basha Primary School in Guizhou Province

蔡繼有書院赴從江岜沙小學服務學習

After visiting Basha Primary School in Congjiang, Guizhou Province in 2019, Choi Kai Yau College (CKYC) of the University of Macau (UM) continues to support the school with donations during the three years of pandemic. A group of 20 staff and students from the college visited Basha Primary School in Congjiang for a one-week service learning program on May 21, 2023. Students have exercised their community service capabilities and enhanced their leadership, teamwork, and social responsibility skills through this volunteer teaching experience.

At Basha Primary School, participants from CKYC taught during the day and conducted debriefings every night. Teaching pedagogy and content were actively exchanged and discussed, as well as continuously optimized and improved. CKYC students also engaged in active communication with Primary School teachers to gain a better understanding of their students, in an effort to maximize learning outcomes. Furthermore, CKYC students have brought rich and diverse teaching models and interesting knowledge to school children, such as scientific experiments, Macau culture, psychological health, etc. It provides primary school children with a new educational experience, while CKYC students are able to further reflect on educational, cultural, and social issues. As well as teaching primary school students knowledge and broadening their horizons, this service learning program enabled university students to develop a deeper understanding of social observation. Both sides benefit greatly.

A talent show was held on the last day of voluntary teaching to celebrate upcoming Children’s Day on June 1st by staff and students from CKYC and Basha Primary School. Laughter and joy filled the air as everyone sang and danced together once again, feeling Miao people’s singing and dancing abilities as well as their warm hospitality. As CKYC’s service learning program came to an end, the staff and students of CKYC took pictures with primary school students, exchanged farewell words, and took pictures with primary school students together. Several college students said that they plan on returning next year and hope that this program can continue.

According to Kuang Siyuan, a senior student in the voluntary teaching group: “We are teachers who have not yet been worn down by reality. We met children who have not yet been worn down by reality. Everything became full of passion and unforgettable.”

Li Dongling, a freshman, said: “I enjoyed the service learning project at Basha Primary School, despite my hoarse throat. I loved every minute in the classroom. It will make them feel appreciated and favored if I can bring them something.”

One freshman student, Ye Haoqi, said: “Honestly, we have no way of bringing them a great deal of knowledge in one week.” Nevertheless, when we accompany them on a service learning project for a week, we have already introduced them to the outside world and given them more opportunities in the future.”

澳門大學蔡繼有書院自2019年訪問貴州省從江縣丙妹鎮岜沙小學後，三年疫情以來一直以捐贈物資的形式繼續著愛心助學項目。2023年5月21日，書院師生20人的義教團親赴從江岜沙小學開展了為期一周的服務學習項目。通過這次義教，書院院生們鍛鍊了自己的社區服務能力，也大大提升了領導力、團隊合作能力以及社會責任感。

在岜沙小學的一週，書院師生們除了白天教學，也在每天晚上進行團隊總結和反思。大家積極交流討論教學方法和教學內容，並且不斷優化改進。此外，澳大同學們積極與岜沙小學教師對接，增加對學生們的認識與了解，努力做到教學成果最大化。除了常規課本知識，澳門大學蔡繼有書院院生們將豐富多元的教學模式和趣味知識，如：科學小實驗、澳門文化、心理健康等帶給了山區小朋友。讓小學生們擁有在新穎教育體驗的同時，大學生們也進一步思考著關於教育、文化、社會發展等問題。此次服務學習不僅達到了教授小學生知識和開闊眼界的目的，大學生們也收穫了更有溫度和深度的社會觀察視角，雙方都獲益匪淺。

為了慶祝即將到來的六一兒童節，在義教的最後一天，蔡繼有書院師生與岜沙小學師生一起舉行了文藝匯演。在歡聲笑語中，大家載歌載舞，再一次感受到苗寨人民的能歌善舞、熱情好客的民族文化。文藝匯演過後，院生們和小學生們一起拍照留念，互留臨別贈言，給此次義教活動劃上了圓滿的句號。院生們紛紛表示，明年後年都想再來岜沙小學，希望未來可以將助學行動一直堅持下去。

義教團大四的鄺思源同學說: 「我們是一群尚未被現實磨平的老師，遇上了一群尚未被現實磨平的孩子，一切變得充滿激情，難以忘懷。」

大一的李冬玲同學说: 「儘管每節課都在瘋狂喝水，嗓子啞了，腰酸背痛。但在教室裏的每分每秒，我都很快樂。如果我真得能給他們帶來什麽，至少，他們知道每個人都會被我注意到，每個孩子都會被我偏愛。」

同樣大一的葉浩琪同學說: 「客觀地講，一週的時間能帶給他們的知識真得有限，但我們陪在他們身邊，被他們包圍和喜歡的時候，我們就已經向他們展示了外面的世界，提供了更多的可能性。」
