澳大開發天然寡糖生物材料促毛髮再生

澳門大學中華醫藥研究院、中藥質量研究國家重點實驗室教授王春明及其研究團隊,聯合南京大學生命科學院教授董磊和溫州醫科大學藥學院教授肖健,研發出一種植物來源的寡糖生物材料(OG6),研究證明將其注射至小鼠皮膚內,可明顯加快毛髮生長。相關研究成果已獲得國家發明專利授權及進入國際專利公告(PCT),並發表於國際材料學頂級期刊Advanced Materials

人的毛髮具有重要的生理功能。然而,因遺傳、激素水平、情緒壓力等因素造成的脫髮問題,影響全球數千萬人。目前,臨床獲批的藥物少且副作用較明顯;植髮手術價格高,也帶來痛苦。因此,治療脫髮的臨床需求與市場價值巨大。王春明於三年前開啟該研究,現正計劃與企業和臨床機構洽談下一步合作,期望早日進入臨床轉化的快車道,開發新藥上市。他也期望自己能夠成為新藥的第一批使用者。

王春明表示,哺乳動物的毛髮從毛囊中長出,其生長具有週期性,從靜止期到生長期的轉變受局部組織的生理微環境調控。毛囊附近某類免疫細胞數量或某類細胞因子濃度的變化,都可能刺激毛囊生長,但這些變化難以精準控制。在該研究中,團隊優選出一種“纖維素酶”,如同剪刀一般,可將天然藥物蒟蒻來源的葡甘聚糖,從非常大的分子“剪”成比較小的分子片段。從一系列比較小的片段中,研究人員找到一個代號為OG6的寡糖組分,可以精確誘導皮膚中的特定細胞釋放一種名爲“趨化因子”的信號(CCL5)。這個信號如同交通燈,可引導一類名為調節性T細胞的免疫細胞遷移到毛囊周圍,和毛囊幹細胞發生作用,刺激毛囊進入生長期。有趣的是,無論是作為原料的大分子還是酶解同時獲得的其他組分,都不具備OG6的這一特異活性。團隊猜測,這一“剪”,暴露出了寡糖被多糖分子鏈所掩蓋的“隱藏活性”。團隊在使用多種生物學方法驗證了OG6的作用機制後,將OG6注射到褪毛後的野生小鼠及轉基因報告小鼠皮內,觀察到健康的毛髮在注射部位快速新生,且未出現皮膚過敏或任何毒副作用。更為重要的是,OG6在體內最終降解產物是葡萄糖和甘露糖兩種人體內本身存在的物質,預計安全性高。

UM develops natural oligosaccharides for hair regeneration

A research team led by Wang Chunming, professor at the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences and the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine of the University of Macau (UM), in collaboration with Dong Lei, professor at the School of Life Sciences of Nanjing University, and Xiao Jian, professor at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Wenzhou Medical University, has developed a new biomaterial based on plant-derived oligosaccharides (OG6). The study shows that injecting OG6 into the skin of mice could markedly accelerate hair growth. The research results are protected by a granted Chinese invention patent and under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and have been published in the top international journal Advanced Materials.

Human hair has vital physiological functions. However, hair loss caused by genetic factors, hormone levels, emotional stress, and other factors, affects tens of millions of people worldwide. At present, there are few clinically approved drugs available on the market and the side effects are substantial, while hair transplantation can be costly and painful. The clinical demand and market value of hair loss treatment are therefore considerable. Prof Wang, who initiated the research three years ago, is now discussing future collaboration with companies and clinical institutions to fast-track the clinical translation of the research results and develop a new drug for the market. He also hopes to be one of the first batch of users of the new drug.

According to Prof Wang, mammalian hair grows from hair follicles (HFs) and hair growth is cyclical, with the transition from ‘anagen’ (growth) to ‘telogen’ (rest) phases being regulated by the physiological microenvironment of the local tissues. Changes in the number of certain immune cells or the concentration of specific cytokines can stimulate HF growth, but such changes are difficult to control precisely. In the study, the team optimised an enzyme, which acts like a pair of scissors, to ‘cut’ the large molecules from natural plant-derived glucomannan polysaccharides into smaller oligosaccharides, from which the researchers identified a fraction called OG6. OG6 can specifically induce specific cells in the skin to release a signal called CCL5. The signal acts like a traffic light and leads a type of immune cells called regulatory T cells to migrate towards HFs, interact with the stem cells around HFs, and stimulate HFs to enter the anagen phase. It is interesting to note that neither the large molecules that serve as source material nor the other small fractions obtained from the cutting possess this specific function of OG6. The team speculated that the cutting exposes the ‘hidden activity’ of the oligosaccharides, which is concealed by the polysaccharide chain. After verifying the molecular mechanism of OG6 with multiple biological methodologies, they injected OG6 into the dermal tissue of wild-type and transgenic mice whose hair had been shaved and observed that healthy hairs grew rapidly in situ without skin allergies or toxic side effects. More importantly, OG6 is a safe substance as its final degradation products are glucose and mannose, which are already present in the human body.

Yin Xiaoyu, a master’s graduate of the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences of UM, is the first author of the study. 澳大專家學者為2024年施政提供意見

澳門大學澳門研究中心今(30)日舉行“2024年財政年度澳門特區施政報告”前瞻座談會,多名專家學者為明年施政提供意見。他們共同關注經濟復甦中的居民心理預期問題、小微企的疫後生存情況、人工智能發展所帶來的職業結構轉型、失業問題等,並就不同方面提出前瞻性的政策和具體產業建議。

是次會議由澳大澳門研究中心主任林玉鳳主持。澳大社會科學學院助理教授關鋒表示,未來政府施政仍應在“總結”和“穩定”之上,政府可總結抗疫三年所推出消費卡、中小企支援、帶津培訓等惠民措施的成效,為未來同類政策提供參考。此外,也應總結提振經濟措施的成果與不足。展望未來,2024年旅遊業將繼續復甦,可在拓展海外客源上多作工夫,經濟多元應以穩定為主。

澳門管理學院院長唐繼宗認為,澳門經濟已在復甦的過程中,現已達到2019年七成一的水平,然而旅遊業、遊客消費模式等都有結構性調整,政府應注意復甦過程中的結構不平衡現象。未來施政方面,重點可在穩定消費和投資信心上,疫情期間的一些措施不需太快退出巿場。他認為,隨着灣區融合,區域競爭增大,政府應注意其對澳門小微企的影響,在經濟轉型中,應幫助小微企在疫後過渡和生存。

澳大工商管理學院副教授蕭志成同樣關注澳門復甦期間旅客驟然增多的居民心理預期問題。他表示,政府未來施政可在居民心理預期上著墨,考慮出台分流措施,如鼓勵公交、設立公交專道、注重環境衛生、使用智慧手段分流等,以減低居民和旅客的衝突。他認為政府應初步考量和準備未來數字人民幣的使用問題,開展包括數字貨幣和移動支付等在內的立法事宜。

澳大博彩研究所所長馮家超表示,直至現時為止,來澳旅客已達1400萬人次,相信今年第四季大眾巿場會恢復到2019年的水平。由於恢復速度超出預期,可能會引發一些社會問題。他指出,澳門接待大眾顧客的能力與賭收掛鈎,使賭收變得可預期,政府可依此進行相關估算,以制定相關政策。他注意到,在高息環境影響下,小微企流動性緊絀,未來一些參與過“還息不還本”計劃的小微企業,可能會有倒閉或流動性風險。

澳大工商管理學院副教授蘇小恩表示,在穩固綜合旅遊休閒上,政府需要認真處理交通配套的問題,提出短中長期的改善計劃;在文化政策上,從顧客體驗和吸引力上發展“文化地標”;在體育文化旅遊上,除著重賽事本質上,建議思考賽事和旅遊的結合;在會展方面,建議加強澳門年青人的外語能力,增強會展業的國際化;在文化產業上,建議加強澳門年青人對新興巿場的興趣,明晰行業前程;在五年規劃上,清晰政府各部門在五年規劃上的定位。

澳大科技學院副教授黃承發認為,在科技產業上,應建立短中長期的科技發展計劃,培養科技創業氛圍,先發展較容易落地的科技產業及產品,再發展較深層次及更高質量的科技產業。在綠色產業上,未來施政要注意達到國家2030碳達峰的目標,引進新技術造就綠色科技行業,投資碳交易巿場。在人才計劃上,應積極培養和引進複合型尤其是與人工智能或數據等相關的人才,注意吸引有經驗或成功個案的高新科技人才,支持運動員的可持續發展。此外,落實整體城巿規劃要有決心,以便解決澳門的交通問題。

澳大社會科學學院助理教授陳建新表示,政府要做好四大產業的宣傳工作,使居民了解其與民眾的關係。他表示,政府應了解四大產業的生態和產業鏈,重點安排和佈局,尋找未來產業發展的方向。澳門是灣區西部的重點城巿,可與西部其他城巿聯動發展,有利於澳門打造產業鏈。此外,他認為可建立產業平台,讓小微企入駐並拓展商機。

澳大社會科學學院客席助理教授蘇桂龍關注澳門居民的心理健康問題。他表示, 2022年和2023年上半年的自殺率在近年相對較高。除經濟領域外,未來施政也應注意居民的心理健康,建議推廣學校的心理健康課程,鼓勵公私營心理健康醫療資源分流,在巿場或職場上倡導精神健康政策。他認為,特區施政應注重政策的持續性,如2021年青年指標中提出了幸福感的議題,在後續的施政中應有所跟進。

UM experts and scholars provide suggestions on SAR government’s policies for 2024

The University of Macau (UM) Centre for Macau Studies (CMS) today (30 August) held a seminar on the Macao SAR government’s policy address for the fiscal year 2024, in which experts and scholars provided suggestions for the government’s policies in the next fiscal year. During the event, the attendees discussed residents’ expectations in the midst of the economic recovery, the post-pandemic situation of micro and small enterprises (MSEs), as well as the transformation of occupational structure and the problem of unemployment caused by the development of artificial intelligence. They also proposed some forward-looking policies and suggestions for industries in various aspects.

The seminar was chaired by CMS Director Agnes Lam Iok Fong. According to Kwan Fung, assistant professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences, the SAR government should continue to focus on ‘conclusion’ and ‘stability’ in its future policies. He suggested that the government should review the effectiveness of the beneficial measures introduced in the past three years, such as the electronic consumption benefits plan, financial support for small and medium enterprises (SME), and the subsidised training programme, in order to provide references for similar policies in the future. The government should also review the outcomes and shortcomings of the economy-boosting measures. Looking ahead, Macao’s tourism industry is expected to recover in 2024, and further efforts can be made to expand its international tourist sources, while economic diversification should be based on stability.

Tong Kai Chung, president of the Macau Institute of Management, said that Macao’s economy is recovering, and has reached 71% of the level of 2019. However, the tourism industry and tourist consumption are undergoing structural adjustments, and the government should pay attention to structural disequilibrium in the process of economic recovery. In terms of governance, the government should place emphasis on maintaining consumption and investment confidence, and the beneficial measures taken during the epidemic should not be withdrawn from the market too quickly. He believes that with the integration into the Greater Bay Area and the increase in regional competition, the government should observe the relevant impacts on Macao’s MSEs, and help them to transition and survive in the course of economic restructuring.

Ricardo Siu Chi Sen, associate professor in the Faculty of Business Administration also shared the concern about the residents’ expectations towards the sudden rise in the number of tourists during Macao’s recovery period. He said that the government should take into consideration the residents’ expectations. To reduce the conflicts between residents and tourists, the government should also consider introducing measures such as encouraging the use of public transport, setting exclusive lanes for public transport, placing emphasis on environmental hygiene, and implementing intelligent traffic diversion measures. He added that the government should give preliminary consideration to and prepare for the use of digital Renminbi in the future, and take legislative action on digital currency and mobile payment.

According to Davis Fong Ka Chio, director of the Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming, up to the present moment, the number of visitors to Macao has reached 14 million, and it is believed that the mass market will return to 2019’s level in the fourth quarter of this year. As the speed of recovery is faster than expected, some social issues may emerge. He pointed out that Macao’s ability to receive tourists is linked to its gaming revenue, which makes the gaming revenue predictable. The government can make relevant estimates and formulate relevant policies. He noted that under the impact of high interest rates, MSEs’ liquidity is tight, and some MSEs that have participated in the scheme that allows them to pay the interest only with the suspension of the amortisation of capital might face closure or liquidity risks in the future.

Amy So Siu Ian, associate professor in the Faculty of Business Administration said that in terms of consoliding integrated tourism and leisure, the government needs to put more efforts in addressing the issues of transport support, and propose short-, medium-, and long-term improvement plans; in terms of cultural policy, it should develop ‘cultural landmarks’ with regard to customer experience and attractiveness; in terms of sports, culture, and tourism, in addition to focusing on the nature of events, it is suggested to consider the combination of events and tourism; in terms of conventions and exhibitions, it is suggested to strengthen the foreign language skills of Macao’s young people, which can contribute to the internationalisation of the convention and exhibition industry; in terms of cultural industries, it is suggested to pique the interest of local young people in emerging industries and familiarise them with the respective prospects; and in terms of the ‘Five-Year Plan’, the government should define the positioning of vaiours governmental departments in the Five-Year Plan.

According to Alfred Wong Seng Fat, associate professor in the Faculty of Science and Technology, it is necessary to formulate short-, medium- and long-term technological development plans so as to foster an atmosphere conducive to entrepreneurship in the science and technology industry. The government should first develop technology industries and products that are easier to proceed with, and then develop those with higher levels and standards. Regarding the green industry, the government should strive to achieve the national target of peaking carbon dioxide emissions before 2030, introduce new technologies to create a green technology industry, and invest in the carbon trading market. In terms of Macao’s talent development plan, the government should actively cultivate and recruit talent with multiple capabilities, especially those with expertise in artificial intelligence and data science, and attract high-tech professionals who have successful experience. It should also support the sustainable development of local athletes. In addition, the government should be committed to implementing comprehensive urban planning in order to solve Macao’s traffic issues.

Chan Kin Sun, assistant professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences, said that the government should increase efforts on promoting the four emerging industries so that residents can understand the correlation between these industries and the public. The government should know well about the ecology and industrial chain of the four industries, propose specific arrangements, and find the direction of future industrial development. As a key city in the western part of the Greater Bay Area, Macao can establish links with other cities in the region, which is conducive to the development of the city’s industrial chain. Moreover, he suggested that industrial platforms could be built to enable local MSEs to start their businesses and explore business opportunities in the region.

Elvo Sou Kuai Long, assistant professor (by courtesy) in the Faculty of Social Sciences, shared his concern about the mental health of Macao residents, as the suicide rates in 2022 and the first half of 2023 are relatively high compared with previous years. Aside from the economy, the government should also pay attention to the mental health of residents. He suggested that it should promote mental health courses in schools, optimise the allocation of mental health care resources in the public and private sectors, and advocate mental health policies in the market and workplace. He added that the government should focus on the continuity of policies and take follow-up actions in the future, for example, the issue of well-being mentioned in the Youth Indicators of Macao in 2021.

澳大開發創新檢測技術篩查早期糖尿病

澳門大學健康科學學院副教授劉子銘帶領的團隊基於脂肪組織代謝螢光成像,開發早期糖尿病的檢測技術,揭示了新的糖尿病預防策略,並為診斷早期糖尿病提供了一種創新方法。相關研究成果已發表於國際期刊《治療診斷學雜誌》(Theranostics)。

早期糖尿病可以透過調整生活方式得以逆轉,但其主要病理特徵——胰島素抵抗卻無法像血糖測試一樣方便地檢測出來,糖尿病患者往往要等到出現高血糖時才被確診。因此,開發一種侵入性較低的診斷方法以快速評估胰島素抵抗,將有助於早期糖尿病的篩查預防。由於脂肪組織在早期糖尿病的發生和發展過程中起到關鍵作用,透過脂肪組織微環境的代謝螢光影像,表徵胰島素抵抗和炎症病理狀態,為診斷早期糖尿病提供了一種侵入性較低的檢查模式。

通過對三種內源性螢光團NAD(P)H、FAD、脂褐素的代謝成像,研究團隊成功發現早期糖尿病脂肪組織的可分化特徵。1040 納米激發的脂褐素自發螢光可標記出巨噬細胞的位置,這一特徵有助區分巨噬細胞的代謝螢光信號與脂肪細胞的代謝螢光信號。在有胰島素抵抗的早期糖尿病脂肪組織中,只有脂肪細胞表現出低氧化還原比的代謝螢光和高遊離NAD(P)H佔比a1。而對於從胰島素抵抗中恢復的小鼠,該差異性特徵消失了。當小鼠同時出現糖尿病性高血糖和脂肪組織發炎時,脂肪細胞和巨噬細胞都表現出相關代謝螢光變化。根據RNA-seq分析、生物能譜和組織病理學證據,脂肪細胞代謝螢光的變化可成為早期糖尿病胰島素抵抗的風險指標。

UM develops new technique for prediabetes detection

A research team led by Liu Tzu-Ming, associate professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at the University of Macau (UM), has developed a technique for prediabetes detection based on metabolic fluorescence imaging of adipose tissue. The study presents an innovative method for diagnosing prediabetes, shedding light on diabetes prevention strategies. The research results have been published in the international journal Theranostics.

Prediabetes can be reversed through lifestyle intervention, but its main pathologic hallmark, insulin resistance (IR), cannot be detected as conveniently as blood glucose testing. In consequence, the diagnosis of prediabetes is often delayed until patients have hyperglycemia. Therefore, developing a less invasive diagnostic method for rapid IR evaluation will contribute to the screening and prevention of prediabetes. Since adipose tissue is an endocrine organ that plays a crucial role in the development and progression of prediabetes, metabolic fluorescence imaging the prediabetic microenvironment of adipose tissues provides a less invasive alternative for the characterisation of IR and inflammatory pathology.

The research team successfully identified the differentiable features of prediabetic adipose tissues by employing the metabolic imaging of three endogenous fluorophores NAD(P)H, FAD, and lipofuscin pigments. 1040-nm excited lipofuscin autofluorescence could mark the location of macrophages. This unique feature helps distinguish the metabolic fluorescence signals of macrophages from those of adipocytes. In prediabetes fat tissues with IR, only adipocytes exhibit a low redox ratio of metabolic fluorescence and high free NAD(P)H fraction a1. This differential signature disappears in mice which quit the high-fat diet or high-fat-high-sucrose diet and recover from IR. When mice have diabetic hyperglycemia and inflamed fat tissues, both adipocytes and macrophages possess such kind of metabolic change. As confirmed with RNA-seq analysis and histopathology evidence, the change in adipocyte’s metabolic fluorescence could be an indicator or risk factor of prediabetic IR.

Prof Liu is the corresponding author of the study, and his PhD student Chen Liping is the first author. Others who have contributed to the study include PhD student Qin Guihui and postdoctoral fellow Wang Xiaoyan in the FHS. UM’s Centre for Continuing Education and the Labour Affairs Bureau jointly offer a certificate course for construction safety supervisors

 


澳大與勞工局持續合辦課程 培養建築安全專業人員

為滿足業界對建築安全督導員的需求,澳門大學持續進修中心和澳門特別行政區政府勞工事務局近年開辦了四期的建築安全督導員證書課程。該證書課程由2005年開辦至今已成功舉辦61期,共培訓1,911人。

建築安全督導員證書課程共150學時,內容結合理論與實習,透過“職業安全”、“職業健康”、“安全管理”及“職安健法例及實務操作”四個部分讓學員具備相關的專業知識,從而協助僱主進行職安健項目的自我規管,提升業內工作人員的安全文化及工作安全水平。完成課程並考核合格的學員,將獲澳大和勞工局聯合簽發的證書。近年的四期課程已順利完成,共108名學員獲頒證書。

此外,為配合澳門特區政府2/2023號法律《建築業職業安全健康法》,雙方今年將推出《建築業安全主任培訓課程》,藉此提升職安健水平、降低工傷數字。新一期課程預計於9月中開課。

To meet the industry’s demand for construction safety supervisors, the Centre for Continuing Education of the University of Macau (UM) and the Labour Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR government have jointly offered four intakes of the certificate course for construction safety supervisors in the past year. Launched in 2005, the course has been held for 61 intakes, with a total of 1,911 participants completing the course.

The course consists of 150 hours of study and covers four major topics, namely ‘Occupational Safety’, ‘Occupational Health’, ‘Safety Management’, and ‘Occupational Safety and Health Legislation and Site Inspections’. It aims to equip participants with relevant professional knowledge and enable them to assist their employers to self-regulate occupational safety and health, thereby fostering the safety culture and raising the level of occupational safety of workers in the construction industry. Participants who complete the course and pass the assessment will receive a certificate jointly issued by UM and the Labour Affairs Bureau. In the past year, four intakes of the course have been held, and 108 participants were awarded the certificate.

In addition, in accordance with the Macao SAR government’s Law No. 2/2023 on occupational health and safety in the construction industry, UM and the Labour Affairs Bureau will jointly launch a course for construction safety officers in 2023, aiming to improve the standard of occupational safety and health and reduce the number of work accidents. The new course is planned to start in mid-September.

澳大校長率團訪武漢大學及華中科技大學

澳門大學校長宋永華率團訪問武漢大學及華中科技大學,與兩校代表進行深入交流,務實推動澳大與湖北一流高校深化合作。宋永華亦出席了2023電氣工程學院院(校)長論壇,與來自全國的專家學者一同建言獻策,為電氣工程學科與工程領域的發展貢獻智慧和力量。

澳大代表團在武大獲該校黨委書記黃泰岩、副校長唐其柱等代表熱情接待。宋永華在座談交流時表示,近年兩校的學術交流和科研合作不斷深化,師生交流互動也日益頻繁,並將攜手開展優秀學生雙學位聯合培養項目,期望未來能繼續強強聯手,拓展交流合作的深度和廣度,尤其是在工科和文科領域。黃泰岩表示,澳大一直是武大的重要合作夥伴,兩校在人才培養、科學研究等領域有廣闊的合作空間,期待兩校取得更多合作成果。

其後,澳大代表團參觀了武大測繪遙感信息工程國家重點實驗室和文學院,各方就自動駕駛、物聯網等優勢技術方向開展交流合作、進行人才聯合培養等達成合作共識,並就推動漢語言文學專業本科聯合培養項目進行深入溝通。

另外,澳大代表團在訪問華中科技大學時獲該校副校長陳建國等代表熱情接待。宋永華在座談交流時表示,兩校自2000年建立合作關係,多年來科研合作成果豐碩,近年也建立了學生交換機制,推動優秀學生的互動交流;期望未來兩校能充分發揮各自優勢,深化各學科領域尤其是工科、醫科等的交流,爭取獲得更豐碩的合作成果。陳建國對澳大近年的發展成就給予高度認可,並表示希望能與澳大優勢互補、合作共贏,共同推動鄂澳兩地高等教育發展。會後,澳大代表團參觀了華中大智能製造裝備與技術全國重點實驗室和人文學院,並就深化合作事宜進行深入探討。

宋永華還參加了由中國電工技術學會、中國電機工程學會聯合主辦,武漢大學電氣與自動化學院、電網環境保護全國重點實驗室聯合承辦的2023電氣工程學院院(校)長論壇。來自全國130多所高校近300位電氣工程學科的院(校)長、學者及電氣領域頭部企業專家參會交流,探討電氣工程學科發展的前沿問題、研究熱點和未來學科發展趨勢,促進電氣工程學科發展和人才培養質量提升。論壇上,宋永華從2022“世界高等教育大會”主旨引出世界一流大學人才培養理念,並分享澳大建設凸顯全人教育和學科融合的大學人才培養體系。

是次代表團成員還包括澳大人文學院院長徐杰、科技學院副院長周萬歡、智慧城市物聯網國家重點實驗室副主任馬少丹、科技學院機器人與自主系統碩士學位項目主任徐青松等。

UM rector leads delegation to visit WHU, HUST

Yonghua Song, rector of the University of Macau (UM), recently led a delegation to visit Wuhan University (WHU) and Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST). During the visits, Song had in-depth discussions with the representatives of the two universities on promoting cooperation between UM and top universities in Hubei. Song also attended the Electrical Engineering Deans (Presidents) Forum 2023, where he and other experts and scholars from across the country shared their insights on the development of the electrical engineering discipline and the engineering field.

During the visit to Wuhan University, Song said that the two universities have deepened academic exchange, research collaboration, and exchange of students and faculty in recent years, and that they will launch a joint undergraduate programme. He also expressed hope that UM and WHU will continue to strengthen and expand cooperation, particularly in the fields of engineering and humanities. The UM delegation also visited the State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering in Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing and the College of Chinese Language and Literature of WHU, where the two sides reached a consensus on cooperation in fields such as autonomous driving and Internet of Things and discussed in-depth the establishment of a joint undergraduate programme in Chinese language and literature.

During the visit to Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Song said that the two universities have achieved fruitful research results since the establishment of their partnership in 2000, and a student exchange programme has been launched in recent years. He expressed hope that UM and HUST will leverage their respective advantages to deepen academic exchanges in various disciplines, particularly in the fields of engineering and medicine. The UM delegation also visited the State Key Laboratory of Intelligent Manufacturing Equipment and Technology and the School of Humanities of HUST, where the two sides had in-depth discussions on strengthening cooperation.

In addition, Song attended the Electrical Engineering Deans (Presidents) Forum 2023, where he delivered a speech on the principles of talent development embraced by world-class universities. He also shared UM’s talent development system that features whole-person education and the integration of disciplines.

澳門大學持續進修中心與英國特許土木工程測量師學會(香港分會)合辦建設商務管理(工料測量)高級專業文憑課程,提升業界人員的專業知識,以促進建築業的發展,促進澳門經濟適度多元發展。

建設商務管理(工料測量)高級專業文憑課程共210學時,內容既符合澳門建築行業的營運發展需求,又與國際接軌。透過專業導師的講解,30名學員深入了解到現行的工程量計算模式及國際慣用工料測量元素,以便業界進行工料測量應用的推廣。

學員周子良表示,學員們透過是次課程加深了對工料測量及建設商務管理的了解,提升了在澳門建築行業方面的專業技能及知識,對國際性施工標準應用於工料測量及建設商務管理也有所認識,獲益良多。

UM, CICES jointly offer certificate courses

The Centre for Continuing Education of the University of Macau (UM) and the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES) (Hong Kong Region) jointly offer the Advanced Professional Diploma in Construction Commercial Management (Quantity Surveying). The course aims to enhance the professional knowledge of industry practitioners, so as to promote the development of the construction industry and facilitate Macao’s economic diversification.

The diploma course consists of 210 hours of study. Its content meets the operational and development needs of the construction industry in Macao and is in line with international standards. Through the lectures given by the professional instructors, 30 participants gained an in-depth understanding of the current mode of quantity surveying and its internationally recognised elements, facilitating the promotion of quantity surveying applications in the industry.

Chau Chi Leung, a participant in the course, said that the course enables participants to deepen their knowledge of quantity surveying and construction commercial management, enhance their professional skills and understanding of the construction industry in Macao, and learn more about the application of international standards in quantity surveying and construction commercial management.

UM’s Centre for Continuing Education and CICES will jointly offer the Advanced Professional Diploma in Construction Commercial Management (Quantity Surveying) again in the coming September. In addition, the two parties will launch an advanced bridging course on quantity surveying and business management, with the aim of enhancing the professionalism of the industry practitioners and offering a more structured and professionally-accredited programme.

澳大與浙大合作的“2+4生物醫學—臨床醫學"聯合培養計劃的正常修讀年期為6年,學生須於澳大修讀首兩年理學士學位(生物醫學)課程,其後於浙大醫學院完成四年的基礎和臨床醫學課程、臨床實習等專業訓練。完成課程的學生可分別獲頒澳大理學士學位(生物醫學)和浙大臨床醫學學士學位。浙大是內地知名高校,其醫學院的臨床醫學學士學位課程每年吸引眾多海內外頂尖學生報讀。該聯合培養計劃適用於就讀澳大的港澳台及國際學生,為學生提供進入內地一流高校習醫的機會。

澳大與復旦合作的“2.5+2.5金融學”聯合培養計劃的正常修讀年期為5年,學生須於澳大修讀首兩年半理學士學位(金融學)課程,及於復旦完成餘下兩年半的金融學專業課程。完成課程的學生將分別獲頒澳大理學士學位(金融學)及復旦經濟學學士學位金融學專業。現代金融業是促進澳門經濟適度多元化的四大新興產業之一,該計劃旨在支持培養頂尖人才,促進澳門現代金融業的發展。課程除涵蓋本科金融專業的基本知識外,亦包括與中國金融業相關的專業知識。

澳大與華工大合作“2+2土木工程”聯合培養計劃的正常修讀年期為4年,學生須於澳大修讀首兩年理學士學位(土木工程)課程,及於華工大完成餘下兩年的土木工程專業課程。期間,澳大學生將參與華工大的卓越全英班。完成課程的學生將分別獲頒澳大理學士學位(土木工程)及華工大工學學士學位土木工程專業。

澳大與華師大合作“1+2+1及2+2教育(數學)—數學與應用數學”聯合培養計劃的正常修讀年期為4年,學生須在兩校分別學習兩年。澳大學生採用“1+2+1”模式,即第一年和第四年在澳大學習,中間兩年在華師大學習;華師大學生則採用“2+2”模式,首兩年在華師大學習,其後兩年在澳大學習。教學實習將在澳門進行。完成課程的學生將分別獲頒澳大教育學士(數學)學位和華師大理學學士學位數學與應用數學專業課程。

澳大與廈大合作“2+2歷史學”聯合培養計劃的正常修讀年期為4年,修讀課程的學生須於澳大修讀首兩年文學士學位(歷史學)課程,及於廈大完成餘下兩年的歷史學學士學位課程。完成課程的學生將分別獲頒澳大文學士學位(歷史學)及廈大歷史學學士學位。

The University of Macau (UM) offers joint undergraduate programmes in collaboration with several renowned universities in mainland China, such as Zhejiang University, Fudan University, South China University of Technology, East China Normal University, and Xiamen University. These programmes cover the fields of history, finance, mathematics education, biomedical sciences, clinical medicine, and civil engineering, with the aim of nurturing more high-calibre talent, raising the level of innovation and internationalisation of industries, and promoting economic development.

According to UM, the joint undergraduate programmes are designed to facilitate the development of the four emerging industries in Macao. By providing students with ample learning opportunities and allowing them to experience diverse cultures and enhance their competitiveness, the programmes aim to cultivate the talent needed for industrial diversification in the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and even the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Details of the joint undergraduate programmes are as follows:

For the ‘2+4’ programme in biomedical sciences and clinical medicine jointly offered by UM and Zhejiang University, the normal study period is six years. Students have to complete the first two years of the Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences programme at UM, followed by four years of basic and clinical medicine courses and professional training such as clinical placements, at the Zhejiang University School of Medicine. On completion of the programme, students will receive a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences from UM and a Bachelor of Medicine in Clinical Medicine from Zhejiang University. Zhejiang University is a renowned university in mainland China, and the undergraduate programme in clinical medicine offered by its medical school attracts many top students from home and abroad every year. The joint programme is open to Macao, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and international students studying at UM, offering them the opportunity to study medicine at a leading university in the mainland.

For the ‘2.5+2.5’ programme in finance jointly offered by UM and Fudan University, the normal study period is five years. Students have to complete the first two and a half years of the Bachelor of Science in Finance programme at UM and the remaining two and a half years of the finance programme at Fudan University. On completion of the programme, students will receive a Bachelor of Science in Finance from UM and a Bachelor of Economics in Finance from Fudan University. Modern finance is one of the four emerging industries contributing to Macao’s economic diversification. The programme aims to support the cultivation of top talent to promote the development of the modern financial services industry in Macao. It covers not only the basic knowledge of finance, but also the professional knowledge related to the financial industry in China.

For the ‘2+2’ programme in civil engineering jointly offered by UM and South China University of Technology (SCUT), the normal study period is four years. Students have to complete the first two years of the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering programme at UM and the remaining two years of the civil engineering programme at SCUT. On completion of the programme, students will receive a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from UM and a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from SCUT.

For the ‘1+2+1’ and ‘2+2’ programmes in education (mathematics) – mathematics and applied mathematics jointly offered by UM and East China Normal University, the normal study period is four years. Students have to study for two years at each university. UM students follow the ‘1+2+1’ model, where they study at UM for the first and fourth years and at ECNU for the middle two years. On the other hand, ECNU students adopt the ‘2+2’ model, where they study at ECNU for the first two years and at UM for the last two years of study. The internship will take place in Macao. On completion of the programme, students will receive a Bachelor of Education in Education (Mathematics) from UM and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics from ECNU.

For the ‘2+2’ programme in history jointly offered by UM and Xiamen University, the normal study period is four years. Students have to complete the first two years of the Bachelor of Arts in History programme at UM and the remaining two years of the Bachelor of History programme at Xiamen University. On completion of the programme, students will receive a Bachelor of Arts in History from UM and a Bachelor of History from Xiamen University.

澳大碩士開發智慧詩歌創作系統獲一等獎

澳門大學科技學院碩士生馬景坤開發的“語笙•智慧詩歌創作系統”在第17屆“泛珠三角+大學生計算機作品賽總決賽”中獲得一等獎,並在10屆“共享盃” 科技資源共享服務創新大賽獲得三等獎。該系統利用人工智能技術模擬和輔助中華傳統詩歌的創作,為詩歌愛好者提供一個集自動生成和潤色功能於一身的創作平台。

在澳大自然語言處理與中葡機器翻譯實驗室(NLP2CT)的黃輝教授指導下,馬景坤運用前沿的自然語言處理與深度學習技術開發系統。該系統能根據使用者的多元化需求提供豐富選項,例如設定言、句、平仄、韻部等詩歌特徵,亦可按不同的場景設定提供動態和靜態的二維潤色功能,包括自動潤色、靈感擴充、詩歌導入、分析等,實現詩歌“生成+潤色”的自動化流程。該系統以大型預訓練語言模型為基礎,結合了按特定任務場景設計和優化的深度學習演算法,加上模型加速技術,提供高效而優質的詩歌創作和優化服務。

UM master’s student wins first prize for intelligent poetry generation system

Ma Jingkun, a master’s student in the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at the University of Macau (UM), won a first prize in the final round of the 17th Pan-Pearl River Delta+ University IT Project Competition for his project ‘Yu Sheng: Human-in-Loop Classical Chinese Poetry Generation System’. He won a third prize in the 10th ‘Sharing Cup’ Innovation Competition of Science and Technology Resources Sharing Service. The system uses artificial intelligence technology to simulate and assist in the creation of traditional Chinese poetry and provide a poetry creation platform that integrates automatic poetry generation and refinement for poetry lovers.

Ma developed the system using cutting-edge natural language processing and deep learning technologies under the guidance of his supervisor, Wong Fai, professor in the Natural Language Processing & Portuguese-Chinese Machine Translation Laboratory (NLP2CT) at UM. The system provides various customisation options to meet users’ diverse needs. It has a wide range of custom configuration functions for poetry, covering poetic features such as words, sentences, tones, and rhyme. In addition, it can provide dynamic and static two-dimensional refinement functions according to different scene settings. These include automatic refinement, inspiration expansion, poetry import, and analysis, enabling the system to cover the entire automated process of ‘generation + refinement’ of poetry. Based on large-scale pre-trained language models, the system is designed and optimised for relevant deep learning algorithms according to task scenarios. It also applies model acceleration technology to provide efficient and high-quality poetry creation and optimisation services.

In addition to the aforementioned awards, Ma also received a first prize in the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES) Undergraduate Contest and a third prize in the IEEE Macau Student Branch Project Competition. 港科大(廣州)校長於澳大談人工智能與高等教育

澳門大學今(21)日舉行新學年首場“大學講壇",由香港科技大學(廣州)校長、香港科技大學計算機科學及工程系講座教授倪明選以“為未來培養人才:生成式人工智能對高等教育的影響”為題發表演說,探討在人工智能驅動的時代下高等教育的發展方向。講座吸引一眾澳大師生及公眾人士參與,氣氛熱烈。

澳大校長宋永華致辭時表示,澳大師生對倪明選並不陌生,他於2015至2019年出任澳大副校長(學術)和電腦及資訊科學系講座教授,目前擔任澳大智慧城市物聯網國家重點實驗室學術委員會委員。倪明選的學術及科研成就斐然,曾先後八次獲得國際會議最佳論文獎,論文引用超過38,000次(據Google Scholar),成功申請美國及中國授權專利28項,並指導73名博士畢業生。倪明選具豐富的高校教研及管理經驗,除澳大外,曾先後在港科大、美國高校及科研機構擔任要職。近年生成式人工智能(AIGC)的發展席捲全球,因此由他來談AIGC與高等教育的關係既適時也適切。

講座上,倪明選指出AIGC的應用進一步加劇了勞動力市場中的就業轉移。隨著人工智能越來越善於執行辦公室常見的日常任務,例如生成文本、圖像和視頻,以及提供客戶服務等,辦公室的工作分工也必然隨之發生變化。因此,僱主在聘請僱員時,需要優先考慮擁有特定技能和能力的求職者,而非擁有傳統資歷的應聘者。該轉變為高等教育的教與學有著深遠的影響。他分析,在人工智能驅動的時代下要取得成功,人們必須熟練掌握人工智能應用,並具備批判性思維、創新能力、道德敏銳度等高階思維能力。針對這一轉變,倪明選分享了香港科技大學(廣州)的舉措,為學生提供突破傳統邊界、實用性強的個性化及數字化全新學習體驗,積極助力學生為投身新型就業市場做好全面準備。在問答及交流環節,講者與參加者交流互動,討論氣氛熱烈。

The University of Macau (UM) today (21 August) held a talk titled ‘Preparing Talents for the Future: Impact of AIGC on Higher Education’, the first talk of its University Lecture Series in the new academic year. Lionel Ni, president of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST(GZ)) and chair professor of Computer Science and Engineering at HKUST, was the guest speaker. UM Rector Yonghua Song said in his speech that in the face of the rapid development of generative artificial intelligence (AIGC) in recent years, it is timely and appropriate to invite Ni, who has remarkable academic and research achievements and a wealth of experience in teaching, research, and management in higher education, to give a talk on the relationship between AIGC and higher education. During the talk, Ni discussed the development of higher education in the age of artificial intelligence (AI) and analysed how the application of AIGC reinforces the further shifts of jobs in the labour market. He also talked about how HKUST(GZ) prepares students to thrive in the AI-driven era and to be equipped for the future of the workforce by offering transformative learning experiences characterised by individualisation and a digitally enhanced environment. The talk attracted many UM students, faculty members, and members of the general public.

澳大智慧城市物聯網國家重點實驗室辦學術委員會會議 並發佈階段成果

澳門大學智慧城市物聯網國家重點實驗室舉行第一屆學術委員會第五次會議,並發佈階段性科研成果。相關科研成果獲學術委員會主席及委員高度評價。

澳門科學技術發展基金行政委員會主席謝永強,中國科學院院士梅宏、程時傑、金紅光,中國工程院院士范維澄、王恩東、張平,澳大校長、智慧城市物聯網國家重點實驗室主任宋永華,香港科技大學(廣州)創校校長倪明選,北京航空航天大學副校長呂衛鋒,清華大學教授吳建平,華中科技大學教授江濤及實驗室的10位科研骨幹參與會議。

會議由學術委員會主席梅宏主持。謝永強致辭時表示,實驗室自成立以來,持續取得巨大突破,在宋永華的親自指導及團隊成員的潛心投入下,取得了令人矚目的成果,更獲得了多項澳門科技獎、全國創新爭先獎、“中國工程界最高獎項”光華工程科技獎等。在智慧城市建設和科技創新領域,實驗室構建了具有國際水準的智慧城市研究平台,涵蓋城市基礎大數據、智慧綜合能源管理、自動駕駛技術、海洋災害數值仿真、智能超算等多個關鍵領域。為應對全球的能源危機,實驗室以澳門大學作為試點,成功開發澳大智慧能源管理平台,實現了能源系統智能數據採集及遠程控制,有效提升能源的使用效率。實驗室在智能駕駛領域亦取得卓越成就,不僅建立了首個協同智能驅動的自動駕駛關鍵技術平台,更成功進行自動駕駛巴士的測試與研發,以應用於未來的智能交通系統。同時,實驗室以獨特創新的科研方法和跨學科合作,自主研發多種傳感器,如利用光纖傳感技術對港珠澳大橋進行監測及預警。實驗室的一系列成果對城市可持續發展和智慧轉型提供有力支撐。

宋永華表示,實驗室將繼續堅守初心,秉持科學精神,以優秀的人才為基石,攀登科研高峰,為城市的智慧化建設和可持續發展貢獻更多的科技力量,為澳門及國家的特、精、強戰略作出實質貢獻。

另外,澳大智慧城市物聯網國家重點實驗室副主任馬少丹全面匯報了實驗室2023年的建設進展及科研成果,並具體介紹未來的發展規劃及工作重點。一眾委員高度評價實驗室於科技創新、人才培養、產學研合作、開放課題等方面取得的成果,並建議實驗室致力推進重大科研項目,深化基礎理論與技術研究,不斷促進科技成果轉化,發揮澳門優勢,積極參與國家重大科技項目。

UM SKL-IOTSC holds Academic Committee meeting and reports on its progress

The State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City (SKL-IOTSC) of the University of Macau (UM) recently held its fifth Academic Committee meeting and reported on its latest research achievements and progress. The president and members of the committee highly praised the research achievements made by the laboratory.

The meeting was attended by Che Weng Keong, president of the Administrative Committee of the Science and Technology Development Fund of the Macao SAR; Mei Hong, Cheng Shijie, and Jin Hongguang, members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Fan Weicheng, Wang Endong, and Zhang Ping, members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Yonghua Song, rector of UM and director of SKL-IOTSC; Lionel Ni, founding president of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou); Lv Weifeng, vice president of Beihang University; Wu Jianping, professor at Tsinghua University; Jiang Tao, professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology; and ten key researchers of SKL-IOTSC.

The meeting was chaired by Mei Hong, chair of the Academic Committee. Che Weng Keong said in his speech that SKL-IOTSC has made many significant breakthroughs since its inception. Under the leadership of Song and with the dedication of the researchers, it has made remarkable achievements and won a number of the Macao Science and Technology Award, the National Award for Excellence in Innovation, and the Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Prize, which is regarded as the most prestigious award in the field of engineering in China. In the field of smart city development and technological innovation, the laboratory has built a world-class smart city research platform, covering a number of major areas such as urban big data, smart integrated energy management, autonomous driving technology, digital simulation of ocean disasters, and super intelligent computing. In response to the global energy crisis, it took UM as a pilot unit and has successfully developed the University of Macau Smart Integrated Energy Management Platform, which enables intelligent data collection and remote control of the energy system and effectively improves energy efficiency. The laboratory has also achieved remarkable results in the field of intelligent driving. It has developed the key technologies and platforms for Collaborative Intelligence‐driven Autonomous Vehicles and conducted testing and research on an autonomous bus for application in future intelligent transport systems. At the same time, the laboratory has developed a variety of sensors through unique and innovative research methodologies and interdisciplinary collaboration, such as the use of fibre optic sensing technology for monitoring and early warning of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. These achievements of the laboratory provide strong support for the sustainable development and intelligent transformation of cities.

Song said that SKL-IOTSC will continue to adhere to its commitment, take outstanding talent as the cornerstone, and reach new heights in scientific research, so as to contribute to the city’s intelligent transformation and sustainable development with its strengths in science and technology and make substantial contributions to the development strategies of Macao and the country.

In addition, Ma Shaodan, associate director of SKL-IOTSC, reported on the development progress and research results of the laboratory in 2023 and introduced its future development plan and key tasks. The members of the Academic Committee highly praised the laboratory’s achievements in scientific and technological innovation, talent cultivation, industry-academia collaboration, and open research projects. They also suggested that it should strive to make progress in major research projects, deepen research on fundamental theories and technologies, continuously promote the commercialisation of research results, and make full use of Macao’s strengths to participate in major national science and technology projects.
