Moon Chun Memorial College, University of Macau, is honored to have invited Dr. Leong Ioi Lam, Registered Chinese Medicine Practitioner, to give a workshop on acne-prone skin, as one of the lecture in MCMC Chinese Medicine Health Lecture Series. This workshop aims to help young people understand the causes of acne and provide effective traditional Chinese medicine remedies. The event attracted numerous participants interested in skincare, creating a lively atmosphere.

The workshop began with an introduction to the various causes of acne, including hormonal changes, dietary habits, and lifestyle factors, enabling participants to understand how to combat acne from its roots. Dr. Leong explained these factors in an accessible manner and offered targeted recommendations.

Next, the workshop included a hands-on session teaching acupressure points for acne relief. Participants actively engaged and practiced the massage techniques, which not only promoted blood circulation but also helped everyone relax, providing immediate soothing effects.

Additionally, Dr. Leong shared several tea recipes that can help improve skin conditions, emphasizing the importance of internal regulation in skincare. Participants showed great interest in these health drinks and eagerly asked for preparation methods.

Finally, Dr. Leung introduced effective external application methods, guiding everyone on how to choose suitable products and use them correctly for optimal results.

To promote the spirit of fencing and foster cultural exchange in sports, Dom Pedro V House of Moon Chun Memorial College, University of Macau, organized a “Fencing Experiential Workshop” on 2^nd March, 2025. Through live demonstrations, and hands-on practice, the event showcased the elegance and strategic depth of this “ballet of combat” while enhancing participants’ physical fitness and focus.

The workshop commenced with a warm-up session led by fencing team members Liu Hao, Sun Liang Ke Yi and Huang Wei Tao, who explained the technical differences between foil, sabre, and épée. Participants then donned protective gear under the guidance of professional coaches to learn foundational footwork, offensive-defensive techniques, and etiquette norms. A mini sparring arena was set up for group sessions, with experienced members assisting beginners in mastering essential skills.

By blending theoretical knowledge with interactive drills, this event effectively enhanced students’ understanding of fencing and cultivated a vibrant sports culture on campus, encouraging more students to explore the artistry and discipline of this timeless sport.

On the evening of 14^th March 2025, House Association (HA) of Moon Chun Memorial College, University of Macau hosted its highly anticipated annual talent show at E31,  Student Activity Center. The theme for this year is “Dreams”, and it attracted over 140 students, affiliates and fellows across the collegiate community: creating a lively atmosphere filled with youthful energy and the glow of dreams.

The evening featured nine performances from different Houses, college band, dance troupe and vocal group. They included drama, singing, dancing, and music, showcasing the limitless possibilities of youth. The audience applauded and cheered for the impressive performers.

Additionally, the final showcase of “Voice of MCMC” took the stage by storm that evening. Three finalists battled out their singing talents, allowing the audience to feel the power of youth and the beauty of dreams. Judges unanimously voted Guia House as worthy winners of this year’s talent show, and Cassius Cheng was awarded the winner of the Voice of MCMC.

This event highlighted students’ pursuit of their dreams; allowing them to shine brightly on stage, whilst creating beautiful memories for everyone.

On March 16, 2025, Moon Chun Memorial College, University of Macau, hosted the “MCMC Musicales – Romantic Resonance,” celebrating White Valentine’s Day. The lecture-recital was carefully curated by two local musicians – Katy Ho Weatherly on viola and Sandra Poon on piano, designed to explore the beauty of enduring love through music, inviting attendees to immerse themselves in a selection of romantic works by renowned composers Rachmaninoff, Schumann, and Piazzolla.

The duo beautifully blended tenderness, nostalgia, and fiery passion, allowing the audience to connect deeply with the themes of romance and affection. Each piece was thoughtfully chosen to evoke various emotions associated with love, creating a rich and engaging atmosphere.

Throughout the lecture-recital, attendees were enchanted to reflect on their own experiences of love. They remarked, “The melodies seemed to resonate with our own stories, evoking memories of laughter, heartache, and joy. Each note carried the weight of shared moments, reminding us that love, in all its forms, is a powerful force that binds us together.”

The University of Macau’s Moon Chun Memorial College Dom Pedro V House successfully held a traditional sugar painting cultural experiential workshop on March 5, 2025. The activity focused on the intangible cultural heritage of sugar painting and attracted 10 students. Through practical operation and cultural exploration, the students deepened their understanding of traditional handicrafts and improved their cultural self-confidence and ability to inherit these skills.

The workshop was divided into three parts: cultural explanation, sugar painting production experience, and artwork display. Resident Assistant Ying Yifan demonstrated traditional techniques using sugar as ink and a spoon as a pen. Students attempted to sketch patterns such as Nezha and Aobing on smooth marble slabs. They actively exchanged information about the history of sugar painting and explored its evolution over different periods. By documenting the production steps and reflecting on their experiences, the students mastered the methods of inheriting intangible cultural skills.

Many students expressed that the activity allowed them to appreciate the profound heritage of Chinese culture and felt inspired to become disseminators of traditional culture. Zhang, a participating student, remarked, “Sugar painting is not only a sweet memory of childhood but also made me realize that every piece of sugar silk carries a thousand years of wisdom. This activity helped me understand that traditional culture requires the innovative expression of young people to be rejuvenated.”

On March 12, 2025, Moon Chun Memorial College, University of Macau, hosted the “Shipley Arts Festival– Macau Chapter,” bringing together music enthusiasts, students, and the local community for an unforgettable celebration of artistry and education.

The event began with an insightful masterclass where Bernardi shared his expertise with students from the University of Macau (UM), offering invaluable guidance on violin techniques and performance artistry. The evening continued with a captivating mini concert, featuring Bernardi performing on his Stradivarius violin, alongside young musicians from Hong Kong, UM, and Macao. The concert showcased a diverse repertoire, blending classical masterpieces with contemporary works, and left the audience spellbound.

The festival achieved significant milestones by fostering cultural exchange between local and international musicians, providing a transformative educational experience for students, and engaging the broader community in a shared appreciation for the arts. Attendees praised the event for its inspiring performances and the opportunity to witness the passing of a musical legacy, remarking, ‘It’s beautiful to see cultures come together in the form of music on stage.’

In honor of this collaboration and in recognition of the artistic contributions Mr. Andrew Bernardi has made to the community, Prof. Kwok Cheung Cheung, College Master of Moon Chun Memorial College, presented the MCMC College Double Blue as a token of appreciation to Mr Bernardi. The College Blues award was initiated at universities across Oxford and Cambridge in England. Since its inception in 2013, MCM College has followed this tradition by awarding College Blues to its members—fellows, affiliates, students, and distinguished guests—for sporting prowess, artistic excellence, and distinctive contributions to MCMC.

MCM College remains committed to supporting the arts and looks forward to future collaborations that continue to enrich the cultural landscape of Macau. Special thanks go to the Bernardi Music Group (UK), Trinity Sannyi (HK), Aqua Music (HK), all participants, and the community for making this event a memorable celebration of music and connectivity.

On 1^st March, 2025, Moon Chun Memorial College, University of Macau hosted the “Voice of MCMC” singing competition. Themed “Dream,” the event attracted many singing contestants. Members of the jury included Prof. Katy Ieong Cheng HO WEATHERLY (non-resident fellow), Faculty of Education at UM. Instructors Steven CHEN and Feiyang GE, Hengqin Sing Yue Art Training Center. Their on-site feedback enhanced the participants’ singing abilities.

The competition was divided into preliminary and semi-final stages, with each contestant required to prepare two songs. After rigorous scoring and feedback from the judges, and voting from the audience, the top three contestants emerged: Kayliah Li, Frank Hu, and Luda Cheng, will go on to compete for the final competition at the   talent show, on 14^th March. The atmosphere was lively with cheers and applause from the audience. A large turnout came to support their favorite contestants, adding immense energy to the competition. Each contestant’s outstanding performance received enthusiastic applause from the audience.

Through this competition, participants showcased their singing talents and allowed more people to feel the power of music.  Although the competition has concluded, the passion and dreams still resonated loudly.

On February 24, 2025, Moon Chun Memorial College, University of Macau held a presentation “Let’s Make a Movie? – The Use of New Technologies in Learning Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PLE)”. The event featured Professor Pedro Caeiro, the City University of Macau,  and attracted students from the Portuguese Studies programme, focusing on exploring Macau’s multicultural heritage through the literary work “Rua das Mariazinhas” by Henrique de Senna Fernandes.

As a central part of the project, students were challenged to produce a film comparing Macau as depicted in the classic narrative with its contemporary social reality, utilizing technological tools to deepen the connections between theory and practice. This initiative not only allowed for an immersion into the sociolinguistic dimension of the Catholic city — including themes such as linguistic interaction and its use in historical monuments — but also encouraged critical reflection on the role of culture in the process of learning foreign languages.

During the event, the benefits of filmmaking as a teaching method were highlighted, emphasizing its potential to nurture students’ interest and promote a holistic understanding of the Portuguese language within its cultural context. The event concluded with the screening of film excerpts and a detailed discussion on the steps and challenges of making a film, underscoring the viability of this method in teaching Portuguese as a Foreign Language.

“I was impressed by the film presented. Through audio recordings, photos, videos, and music, the words of the author Senna Fernandes were transformed into visible images. The fusion of the Macau the writer experienced with the Macau of today not only allowed me to feel the author’s genuine emotions but also made me reflect on the changes in Macau… I believe that creating films like this will not only genuinely enhance students’ understanding of Portuguese works and the language but will also allow viewers unfamiliar with the Portuguese language to connect with Macau.”

On 28^th February, 2025, the Mandarin House of Moon Chun Memorial College, University of Macau hosted a “DIY Nail Art Workshop”. The event featured a nail art instructor, Ms. Lily Li who shared the evolution of nail design, discussing its aesthetic value, practicality, and significance in contemporary culture. Participants not only learned basic techniques but also created their own unique nail art pieces.

Ms. Li explained the pre-treatment, construction principles, and techniques of nail art, guiding everyone through hands-on practice. Many participants found the creative process both challenging, but highly enjoyable: it was a great sense of accomplishment.

At the end of the event, everyone admired each other’s designs, filling the room with laughter. This workshop not only promoted interaction among college members but also allowed participants to express their personal style through nail art.

University of Macau Moon Chun Memorial College invited registered physiotherapist Mr Sio Fu Seng to provide a workshop on “Body Form and temperament”, guiding students in correcting the bad postures.

In this event, Mr Sio explored the relationship between posture and appearance, emphasizing the importance of good posture for self-confidence and how others perceive us. Common poor postures among university students include hunching, rounded shoulders, flat feet, and knees that turn inward. These bad postures not only affect appearance but can also lead to health issues. Additionally, the connection between emotions and posture is crucial; negative emotions often accompany constricted postures, while positive emotions encourage more open postures.

Physiotherapy plays a key role in correcting poor posture. Professional physiotherapists can assess individual posture issues, develop targeted exercise plans, and provide necessary guidance and support. Through these methods, physiotherapy not only helps students improve their posture but also enhances overall physical and mental health. Through this workshop, we hope that the participants can apply what they have learned to their daily lives, continually improving their self-image and body forms.
