The “Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th Anniversary of the Macao SAR: University Women’s Volleyball Invitational Tournament”, organized by Unviersity of Macau (UM), from 17-18 Jul 2024, at N8 UM Sports Pavilion was successfully held.

In order to strengthen the cooperation and cultural exchange with Portuguese speaking countries, women’s volleyball teams of Pedagogical University of Maputo (馬普托師範大學) from Mozambique, Lanzhou University (蘭州大學) from mainland China and Hong Kong Baptist University (香港浸會大學) from Hong Kong are being invited to UM for participating in this tournament. Through this exchange activity, UM students had a great opportunity for promoting UM as well as interacting with volleyball players from different regions.

The tournament was sponsored by Banco Nacional Ultramarino (BNU) and supported by the University of Macau Development Foundation. Prof. Rui Martins, Vice Rector (Global Affairs) of UM, Mr. Carlos Álvares, Chief Executive Officer of BNU, Mr. Aurélio de Jesus Chiconela, Acting Consul General of the Consulate General of the Republic of Mozambique in Macao, Prof. Kai Meng Mok, Vice Rector (Student Affairs) of UM, and Dr. Chris Leung, Secretary-General of the University Council of UM, officiated at the opening ceremony.

After 2-day intensive competition, the final result is shown as follows:

Champion: Lanzhou University
1st Runner-up: Hong Kong Baptist University
2nd Runner-up: Pedagogical University of Maputo
3rd Runner-up: University of Macau

*Remark: the 1st -6th matches are played best of 3 sets; the Play-off for 2nd runner-up and Final matches are played best of 5 sets. 

In addition, the participating teams also visited the UM campus to learn about UM’s developments and latest achievements.

Pedagogical University of Maputo
The Clube de Desportos da Universidade Pedagogica de Maputo commonly referred to as CDUP is a professional volleyball and basketball club of the Pedagogical University of Maputo based in Maputo, Mozambique. It is a young club that essentially operates two sports, basketball and volleyball. The volleyball team competes in all local and regional competitions. The Club was founded in 2017. It is currently a club that is achieving good results through the Women’s Volleyball team, which we now present some: Achievements 2023: African Champion of the Women’s volleyball club cup from African zone 6; 2022: Maputo City Champion; National Champion; 2021: African Vice-Champion of the Women’s volleyball club cup from African zone 6; 2019: African Champion of the Women’s volleyball club cup from African zone 6; Champion of the city of Maputo; National champion; Winner of the Mozambique Cup; 2018: National Junior Female Champion; Senior Vice Champion; 2017: Vice-Champion of the City of Maputo; City champion in juniors.

Lanzhou University
Lanzhou University (LZU) is the key national comprehensive university under the direct authority of the Ministry of Education, which holds an important strategic position in the national higher education landscape and significant influence with good reputation. LZU was founded in 1909. It has been sticking to the motto of “Constantly Improving, Blazing Our Own Path” for more than 110 years, and has cultivated many outstanding talents for the country. LZU has been selected as one of the universities for the construction of “Project 211” and “Project 985”, and was selected as the Class A university in the Double First-Class Construction in 2017. LZU Women’s Volleyball Team is a distinctive and progress-seeking team. It has achieved excellent results in the National University Games, National University Volleyball League (North Region), Final of National University Volleyball League, Gansu Province University Games and Volleyball League respectively. Over the years, they have won a good reputation for LZU with their excellent athletic skills and attitude.

Hong Kong Baptist University
The Hong Kong Baptist University Women’s Volleyball Team is an energetic team. In addition to the skill training, the team also emphasizes on physical fitness, which enables the players to show their competitiveness and passion on the court, for adding different exciting moments of the team. In recent years, the team has achieved great results in various tournaments and has won the top three prizes in the volleyball competitions of Hong Kong tertiary institutions for a number of times. For instance, the Champion in the Jackie Chan Challenge Cup and the 1st Runner-up in the volleyball competition of The University Sports Federation of Hong Kong, China (USFHK Volleyball Competition) in 2024.

University of Macau
The University of Macau Women’s Volleyball Team is a positive-motivated and striving team, which has won the champions in the Macau University Volleyball Championship for ten consecutive years since 2014. With high sincerity and enthusiasm, the team actively participates in volleyball competitions in various regions for broaden the view and enhance student life. Every year, the team organizes the invitational competitions for exchanging with outstanding teams to enhance the skills and develop the networks. We hope to refine ourselves for achieving the common goal, with continuous improvement in terms of our technique and attitude for having stable performance in every game.

【UM Athlete Career and Internship Programme】BOC Macau Session was held successfully

“UM Athlete Career and Internship Programme – BOC Macau Session” was successfully held on 10 Apr. Office of Sports Affairs (OSA) invited Bank of China (Macau) Limited (BOC Macau) for this visiting event which attracted 20 student-athletes to attend.  The event included 2 sessions: “Tour of BOC Macau Museum & Banking Center” and “Career Seminar”.

Through the tour, our students were given a brief introduction about the history, development and workplace environment of BOC Macau. After that, they attended the career seminar to learn about the concrete picture of banking and financial industry in Macau. At last, a BOC staff (also the UM alumni) from “Central Government Offices in Macau Division of Banking Center” shared her experience in working and joining the social activities in BOC, which also inspired students in this career field.

It was a great opportunity for our student-athletes to know more about banking and finance industry job market and prospect. They have learned a lot in the activity with positive feedbacks.

【UM Athlete Career and Internship Programme】Career Fair for Student-Athletes — SJM Resorts, S.A. Session was held successfully

 “UM Athlete Career and Internship Programme –  SJM Resorts, S.A. Session (SJM)” was successfully held on 3 Apr. Office of Sports Affairs (OSA) invited SJM to organize workplace experience at Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau (Grand Lisboa Palace) and attracted 20 student-athletes to attend. The fair included 3 sessions: seminar, room tour and mocktail making workshop.

Through the seminar, students were given a brief overview of SJM background, current recruitment plan and internship programme. After that, the staff of “SJM Management Trainee Programme” shared his work experience. He has worked in various departments and learnt a lot professional knowledge about integrated resorts and these could help his career development in intergraded resort industry. His experience inspired students for exploring career development in this field.

Following the refreshment, was a guided tour to the rooms of 3 different hotels namely Grand Lisboa Palace, The Karl Lagerfeld and Palazzo Versace.  Besides showing different design styles and features of each hotel, our students were also briefed on the function required for different positions in the hotels.  

Finally, SJM organized a mocktail making workshop at Mesa which was conducted by an experienced bartender.  He showed the steps of making a delicious and refreshing mocktail, students enjoyed so much to have a chance to prepare their own drinks.

It was a great opportunity for our student athletes to learn more about the features of an integrated resorts and the important information about the job practices, so that they could stay aware of the market development and enhance competitiveness in their career planning and development upon graduation.

【Athlete’s Career Prospects】 Career Fair for Student-Athletes — MGM Session was held successfully

The “UM Athlete Career and Internship Programme – MGM Session” was successfully held on 13 Mar.  Office of Sports Affairs (OSA) invited MGM for this career talk which attracted 30 student-athletes to attend.  The talk included 3 sessions: (1) Company and Job Vacancy Introduce, (2) Q&A and (3) On-site Career Interview. 

Through the talk, students were given a brief overview of current situation of employment in Macau, MGM company background, current available positions and career ladder.  After the sharing, 2 MGM representatives from human resource department answered the student-athletes’ questions about job requirements and responsibilities.  Finally, the registered students had an on-site career interview.

It was a great opportunity for our student-athletes to know more about the integrated resorts job market and prospect. They have learned a lot in the activity with positive feedbacks.

 UM Korfball Team participated “Hong Kong Macau Interport Korfball Championship”

Activity Highlight

The “Hong Kong Macau Interport Competition 2024” (organized by Macau Korfball Association) was successfully held at UM Sports Pavilion on 4 February 2024. The competition is divided into 3 categories, which are the “Middle School Group”, the “Tertiary Institute Group” and the “Open Group”. 

UM sent a total of 12 students from Korfball Team to participate in the “Tertiary Institute Group” of the competition and “Hong Kong Tertiary Institute team” which formed by different institute students. UM Korfball team members demonstrated outstanding performance and sportsmanship during the competition. The team members have learned a lots such the skills improvement and established friendship with different age level Hong Kong korfball players, it helps improve UM Korfball team overall development.

“UM Korfball Team Visited Zhengzhou University for Intensive Training and Exchange”

Activity Highlight

UM Korfball Team visited Zhengzhou University for intensive training and exchange from 19-24 December in Zhengzhou. A series of activities in  the training period like visiting “Zhengzhou University International Korfball Development Research Center”, training with Zhengzhou University Korfball Team and Zhengzhou 29th Middle School Korfball Team. Zhengzhou University Korfball Team won 5 times “National Korfball Championship” in 2016-2019 & 2023 and “The 12th All China University Korfball Championship” in 2023. “Zhengzhou University International Korfball Development Research Center” is an high level korfball institute in teaching, training and researching. Through the training and exchange,  UM Korfball team had a training opportunity with high level korfball team and learn a lot of korfball training skills and exchange the korfball culture between Macau University and Zhengzhou University.

	徐笑宇 鄭州大學合球隊隊員 這次與澳門大學的交流訓練使我對於團隊合作蘊含的力量有了更加深刻的體會。在訓練中，澳門大學的隊員們的積極性都較為高漲，能夠抓住比賽中進攻的間隙時間快速溝通每次進攻中存在的問題以及下一步進攻改善的可能以及改進的具體方法。 其次，澳門大學隊伍的實踐能力也較強，在察覺到比賽中即時暴露出的問題與不足時，隊員們都能很快地消化吸收，並及時付諸行動，在下一次進攻中落實體現。 最後，在面對對手時，澳門大學隊伍表現較為從容不迫，具有戰略上藐視敵人，戰術上重視敵人的競技態度。 合球作為我校的知名運動，有著悠久的歷史和獨特的文化魅力，鄭大與澳門大學在合球領域有著廣泛的合作空間和文化交流機會，希望通過此次活動，進一步推動兩校在合球方面的進一步合作與交流，特別是通過合球運動加強與澳門高校的交流與合作。期待澳門大學再次來到鄭州大學一起交流學習。
	戚耀基 澳大合球隊教練 經過本次交流，校隊認識到內地合球大學組別及高中組別水平，與自己水平的差別。在活動中透過與內地球員一齊訓練及比賽中增強自己能力及經驗，並且能夠從合球運動中加強自己及隊員的了解。
	凌嘉禧 澳大合球隊隊長 這次鄭州集訓提供了一個機會，讓我們更深入地了解合球的戰術和技術。透過團隊合作和相互鼓勵，提高球隊的凝聚力，也增強了球員的信心。在訓練期間，我們進行了高強度的訓練，提高球員的體能，為日後應對長時間的比賽和對抗做好準備。 此外，與鄭州大學球員和鄭州第二十九中學的球員交流和切磋也讓我們擴闊視野，認識了不同地區的文化。這次習訓對合球隊而言是一個寶貴的經驗，為我們提供了學習和成長的機會。相信通過這次集訓，我們將更有信心面對接下來比賽。
	陳潁鍶 澳大合球隊副隊長 這次訓練給了我們寶貴的機會，深入了解球隊的戰術和策略。透過集中的訓練時間，我們能更好應對比賽中的各種情況和對手，提高技能水平並增強自信心。 訓練也加強了我們作為球員之間的凝聚力和合作精神。花費大量時間一同訓練和比賽，讓我們更熟悉彼此的風格和能力。透過團隊合作和相互支持，我們能更好發揮個人優點，取得更好成績。 訓練讓我們更明白，成功需要付出努力和持續奮鬥。在訓練期間，我們經歷了許多困難和挑戰，但透過努力和堅持，我們成功克服了它們。這個過程教會了我們許多關於堅持不懈和追求卓越的價值觀。
