The “UM Research Assistant Professor Seminar” was successfully held on 24 and 25 January, 2024. The Research Services and Knowledge Transfer Office has invited a total of 14 UM Research Assistant Professors (UMRAP) from fields of biomedical sciences, physical sciences, and social sciences and humanities to present their latest research findings. Vice Rector (Research) Wei Ge attended the seminar, and more than 30 teaching and research staff members attended the seminar and actively participated in the interaction session.

The first session of the seminar was held on 24 January. Six UMRAP in biomedical sciences and physical sciences field delivered presentations, and they are Ruibing Feng from ICMS, Zheng Guan from IOTSC, Quan Sun from FST, Liqiang Zhou from FHS, and Kaile Zhang and Zhiying Zhao from ICI.

The second session of the seminar was held on 25 January. Eight UMRAP in the field of social sciences and humanities presented their research work, and they are Yu Wang from FAH, Song Ao and Nan Zhu from FSS, Zhiwei Su, Xiao Yi and Jing Hu from FBA, Yu Chen from FED, and Kuan Ju Lai from FLL.

Members of the UMRAP advisory panel were impressed with the productive research work and achievements of UMRAP. They also provided valuable guidance on UMRAP’s research directions. Additionally, the panel members encouraged UMRAP to produce more internationally impactful outcomes and actively participate in interdisciplinary research in the future.

The “UM Research Assistant Professor Seminar” has made a successful debut, providing an opportunity for outstanding young scholars to showcase their research work and outcomes. Through this seminar, RSKTO aims to create a platform for the demonstration and exchange of academic achievements, while stimulating scholars’ enthusiasm for research, and facilitating collaboration and innovation.

A delegation from the Research Department of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) visited the University of Macau (UM) and received a warm welcome from Chunming Wang, Interim Director of Research Services and Knowledge Transfer Office of UM. During the visit, the delegation toured the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City and the State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI. They also had a meeting to discuss topics including management of research projects and cooperation opportunities of state key laboratories, and potential collaboration for key research projects.

A delegation from the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province recently visited the University of Macau (UM) and received a warm welcome from UM Vice Rector Ge Wei. Ge gave the guests an overview of UM’s research innovation and knowledge transfer system, research outcomes, and talent training. During the visit, the delegation toured the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine and the State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI. In addition, a meeting was held between the two parties to discuss and exchange views on the development of research platforms such as Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao joint laboratories and the recruitment of top international talents for the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

 A delegation from the Secretariat of the Greater Bay Area Science Forum recently visited the University of Macau (UM) and was warmly received by UM Rector Yonghua Song. The delegation visited the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City, the State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI, and the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine. Additionally, a meeting was held between the two parties to discuss and exchange views on long-term strategic cooperation between the Greater Bay Area Science Forum and UM, as well as the commercialization of research results and media collaboration among Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao.

A delegation from UM attended the 9^th China (Shanghai) International Technology Fair (CSITF) from 15 to 17 June.  Three UM research teams promoted their research outputs at CSITF in exploring industry-university-research collaboration between UM and technological enterprises and institutions in East China.

In addition, the delegation was invited to participate in the “‘Sharing Opportunities, Building New Technologies’ Macao Science and Technology Investment Promotion Conference” hosted by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM). The event allowed about 150 representatives of scientific and technological enterprises or institutions in Macao, Hengqin and East China to exchange insights into issues regarding scientific and technological innovation.
