Recruitment of Student Trainees for the Career Development Centre of Student Affairs Office (Deadline: 26/02)

Dear students,

The Career Development Centre of the Student Affairs Office is now recruiting student trainees to assist with general administrative tasks.

Job Duties:

  • Assist with general counter service and document handling;
  • Design posters;
  • Perform data entry and simple analysis;
  • Update website content;
  • Provide other administrative support as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Local undergraduate students (priority will be given to first-year students);
  • Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator is a higher priority;
  • Fluency in Cantonese, English, and Mandarin is an advantage;
  • Strong sense of responsibility and positive work attitude.

Work Hours:

Monday to Friday during office hours (maximum 15 hours per week)

Stipend:

MOP 48/ hour

Work Location:

Career Development Centre, Student Activity Centre (E31-2004)

How to Answer Common Admission Interview Questions?

An admission interview is your chance to convince the selection committee that you are the candidate they are looking for. The following questions are always asked at an admissions interview, and here is some advice on how to organise your answers:

  • Mention the attractiveness of the programme from your point of view, e.g. how the curriculum meets your expectations, strong faculties, etc.
  • Focus on the programme itself rather than location or cost of living.

  • Show your interest in that major of study.
  • Link the major of study to your career goals.

  • Discuss the reading that is relevant to the programme that you are applying for.
  • Share a book that you have enjoyed, which may help to show your personality, your potential in a particular area, and your passion for the major of study.

  • It is an opportunity to talk about your personality.
  • Say something that will impress the interviewers, and support your sayings with examples.

  • Share something you are proud of, it could be an academic or non-academic achievement.
  • Mention a recent achievement and talk about how it has positively affected you.

  • Talk about an active hobby that you do often.
  • Explain your opinion of the hobby and try to mention the skills you have learnt from it that you will use at university.

  • When selling yourself, it can be tempting to exaggerate, but not overdo it.
  • Mention activities you have participated in, this can show your contribution to the community.

  • Strength: Say something which is thoughtful and support it with examples.
  • Weakness: Discuss a weakness that you have already taken steps to improve and explain how you will continue to work on it.

How to Maintain A Good Relationship with Professors

When you apply for postgraduate programmes, you are always asked to provide a recommendation letter which is written by a professor. Maintaining a good relationship with professors may help you get a powerful recommendation letter, as they can give you a positive evaluation of your academic, work performance, and personal characteristics. Here are some ways that can help you build a good relationship with professors.

  • Learn about the professors by reading their bio on the faculty website, in which you can find their educational background, research interests, and publications. These pieces of information can help you to start a good conversation with professors.

  • Write a professional email to professors when you want to contact them. A well-written email may help you leave a good impression on the professors. When you write an email, use an appropriate salutation and state clearly and concisely what you need. And always remember to conclude the email by saying thank you and adding a proper signature.

  • Ask meaningful questions about the course during the lectures. You may also drop by professors’ offices during their office hours and discuss the course content with them. Stay in touch with them after completing their courses by keeping them updated on your studies.
