MCM College: “MCMC Musicales – From Light to Flame” piano recital

University of Macau Moon Chun Memorial College (MCMC) hosted “MCMC Musicales – From Light to Flame,” a captivating piano recital by acclaimed international pianist Steffin Johnson on Saturday, November 22, 2025. The event brought together staff and students from the University of Macau and Beijing Normal University, as well as members of the Macao community, to bond and cultivate a shared appreciation for the arts.
The recital offered a profound musical journey spanning three centuries of piano repertoire. Mr. Johnson’s program was thoughtfully curated to trace the evolution of the instrument, beginning with the Baroque brilliance of Domenico Scarlatti. He then navigated the fierce virtuosity of Sergei Prokofiev’s Four Etudes, Op. 2, before transitioning into the shimmering soundscapes of Claude Debussy’s “Danse” and Maurice Ravel’s “Prelude.” The performance culminated in a powerful rendition of Franz Liszt’s dramatic “Totentanz,” showcasing the pianist’s remarkable dynamic range and emotional depth.
The “MCMC Musicales – From Light to Flame” recital provided an unforgettable afternoon of cultural enrichment, underscoring Moon Chun Memorial College’s commitment to bringing world-class artistic experiences to the University of Macau and fostering connections within the wider community.
“Attending the concert helped me understand more about music and learn more about contemporary pianists. I enjoyed the performance and the musical culture in the College.” – Nelsibel Paquete da Costa do Nascimento Torres

— Luciana Cai
