Photo Sharing: Honours Project Symposium 2023/2024

The Honours Project Symposium 2023/2024 was successfully held on April 24, 2024 (Wednesday), in a form of 6 sessions (with 3 parallel sessions in the morning and 3 in the afternoon respectively). The HC senior students presented their research project results and on the same day, a poster exhibition was held to exhibit their project findings.

Prof. Dennis WANG, Honours Programme Coordinator and course facilitator of the HONR4001 Honours Project, represented Prof. Rose LAI, the Dean of HC, introduced the Honours Project Symposium, gave thanks to all the project advisors for their support as well as students for their efforts.

Dear UM Colleagues and Students,

Honours College (HC) cordially invites you to join the Honours Project Symposium 2023/2024 to be held on April 24, 2024 (Wednesday) at E12-1016, 1017, 1018.

The Symposium provides an opportunity to highlight HC students’ academic achievements across all majors, programs, departments and divisions. It also provides a forum for students to demonstrate their understandings of perspectives, theories, concepts and skills they learnt and acquired from the course, HONR4001 Honours Project.

The Symposium will be held in a form of 6 sessions (with 3 parallel sessions in the morning and 3 in the afternoon respectively) in Rooms E12-1016, 1017, 1018. The HC senior students will present his/her research projects result, plus a Q & A session. A poster exhibition will be held in Room E12-G025 simultaneously. All UM staffs and students are welcome to this Symposium.

Honours College Tutor Programme – Now calling for registration

Dear Year 1 & 2 UM students,

Greetings from HC Tutor Programme Committee 2023/24!

Honours College (HC) students have initiated the “Honours College Tutor Programme” since 2011. The programme aims to provide study assistance to UM undergraduate students by providing one-on-one tutorials. All tutors are current HC senior students with outstanding academic competitiveness and a great willingness to offer help. 

The tutorials are process-oriented, and learner-centered, requiring active engagement from each student. Tutorials will mainly focus on the areas below:

  • Study Strategies
  • Specific Courses’ Contents
  • Essay/Exam Preparation

The tutorials will be offered flexibly by appointment between the tutor and tutee. For interested students, please sign up via the link below:

Students showcased remarkable talents on HC Day

As the Honours College (HC) Admission Season is approaching, the HC Day was successfully held at E31-Theatre on Sunday, March 10, 2024.  The event illuminated the stage with diversified performances including singing, dancing, magic shows and interacting games, delivered by students from various disciplines. This 2-hour event attracted approximately 150 participants, a majority of whom were freshmen who wanted to know more and join the Honours College, and current Honours College students.

The HC Day, co-organized by the Honours College (HC) and Honours College Student Association (HCSA), aimed to provide a platform for students to showcase their diverse talents, at the same time, connect HC students with non-HC students together to create such a show which captivated the audience with their extraordinary performances.

Honours College Certificate Programme 2024/2025 Admission Season

Honours College (HC) aims to bring together high achieving undergraduates from all disciplines and create opportunities for them to achieve academic excellence, build international perspective, and establish leadership and social responsibility.

We are pleased to announce our upcoming two admission periods: 

Open Application
Application Period: Mar 11 – 22, 2024
Target students: Undergraduate students at 1st year of study for 4-year degree programme (2nd year of study for 5-year degree programme)
Requirements: A minimum of 3.3 Cumulative GPA (Cumulative Scale Average 15 for Faculty of Law) is required at the time of application and admission.
Interested students please apply through Honours College (HC).

Recommended Admission
Submission of Nomination by Residential Colleges (RCs)/ Student Affairs Office (SAO) to HC: June, 2024
Target students: Undergraduate students at 1st year of study for 4-year degree programme (2nd year of study for 5-year degree programme)
Requirements: A minimum of 3.0 Cumulative GPA (Cumulative Scale Average 14 for Faculty of Law) is required at the time of recommendation and admission.
Interested students please approach your home RCs or SAO for selection details.

Cumulative GPA/ Scale Average refer to the overall performance of a student in all the semesters of the specified years of studies, including all courses taken for the degree programme, minor programme(s) and etc.

Greetings from Honours College Student Association (HCSA)!

If you are a person who likes to get involved in international affairs and have your own views on current international issues, and would like to discuss them with others, here’s your chance!

We are honored to have invited Prof. Glenn Timmermans, an Associate Professor from the FAH, Department of English, to lead us in a discussion on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. After Prof. Glenn Timmermans’ lecture, there will be a Q&A session. We believe that the Professor’s profound knowledge and unique insights will definitely enable everyone to have a deeper understanding and reflection on the international situation, humanitarianism and what is happening around us.

This activity is exclusively for HC students and is open to all UM students when vacancies are available. The Honours College application season for the 2024/25 academic year is coming soon, so if you are in your first year and  have a strong will to join HC, come to this Forum and take the opportunity to learn more with us!

In this activity, you will get to team up with like-minded potential HCers like you and your team will be solving intriguing mysteries and puzzles together in order to get the room password within only ONE HOUR.
