【Sports Activity】: UMSU Rock Climbing Club – “Rock Climbing Interest Course (Mar-Apr)” was held successfully

The UMSU Rock Climbing Club organized 4 sessions of the “Rock Climbing Interest Course (Mar-Apr)” from 25 Mar and 5 Apr, and successfully attracted a total of 25 UM members to participate. Throughout the course, participants learned basic safety knowledge of climbing equipment, warm-up exercises, and basic climbing techniques. Despite the rainy weather during the lessons, the experienced student coaches showed their professionalism and preparation to keep the participants safe.

The feedback from participants was positive, they not only learned new skills but also made new friends. Everyone had a great time and felt their abilities in rock climbing improve with each session. The skills and knowledge gained will be valuable for future rock climbing adventures.

【Sports Activity】: UMSU Korfball Club – Korfball training camp in Hong Kong was successfully held

The UMSU Korfball Club organized a korfball training camp and went to Hong Kong for a 3-day training camp from April 7th to 9th. The event invited a local Hong Kong Korfball team, “Tempest” (暴風) and former korfball team member from Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education to participate in the training camp. During the training camp, the members of UMSU Korfball Club received different skills and physical training, absorbed new techniques, and also put into practice during friendly matches with the invited teams.

This was a good opportunity for our club members in terms of sports and social aspects. Additionally, friendship between Macau and Hong Kong korfball sector has been well established and they could further build up their network mutually in different areas.

UMSU Korfball Club

Internal friendly matches of UM Korfball Team were successfully held

The UM Korfball Team held two internal friendly matches on 1 & 10 March. The team members were divided into 4 teams to compete against each other. After the first match, the teams coach reorganized the teams based on the characteristics of each team members and then proceeded with the second match. In addition to regular training, these matches can enhance the competitiveness of the sports team and allow team members to get to know each other better, cultivating mutual understanding and teamwork. The matches were very exciting, and the team members on the field were cheering and encouraging each other.

In the past three years, due to the pandemic, the team coach said it is time to start afresh and hopes that in the future the team can participate in external competitions and absorb advanced techniques from outside. With enthusiastic team members actively participating in training, the sports team’s level will gradually improve.

UM Cheerleading Team Fun Day was successfully held

The UM Cheerleading Team Fun Day was held successfully on 28 Feb 2023 at UM Sports Complex (N8) and there was a total of 67 UM students participating in this activity.

Office of Sports Affairs (OSA) organized this event with the aim of providing an opportunity for UM students to interact with the university team members and experience team training through designated teaching sessions.

In order to let the participants to know more about our UM Cheerleading Team, every single team members as well as the team background and past achievements were introduced. Additionally, the basic cheerleading rules and regulations were explained by the team coach and members, and cheerleading skill demonstrations were conducted. Afterward, participants experienced three different types of training, followed by a mock tryout session in which half of the students participated and interacted with the UM cheerleading team members.

Both the participants and UM Cheerleading Team members enjoyed a lot in the Fun Day with positive feedback.

The “6th Macao Sport Climbing Open “, which was organized by the Mountaineering Federation Macau China and co-organized by the UMSU Rock Climbing Club, was successfully held at the University of Macau on 26 Feb. The competition attracted over 100 participants who came from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, The Philippines and Malaysia. The UM Rock Climbing Team has sent a total of 14 members to compete in the Men’s Amateur category, Women’s Amateur category, and Women’s Open category. After the exciting competitions, Hoi Chi Ieng (FST/CKPC) won the 1st runner-up in the Women’s Amateur category at last.
