A short film on mental health produced by UM students and faculty is screened in a secondary school

 


澳大師生創作微電影倡關注心理健康

為引起大眾對心理健康的關注,澳門大學滿珍紀念書院師生創作微電影《白夜》,並於各中學進行巡迴放映及座談會,首場於利瑪竇中學舉行,吸引了近六百師生參加。

微電影獲利瑪竇中學師生廣泛好評。在座談會上,微電影製作團隊的監製、導演、編劇、演員和書院社工與師生互動,並分享一些心理健康議題的知識,例如情緒壓抑、壓力症狀和處理、童年陰影等,引發深思。有學生表示,在是次活動中學會接納自我、怎樣面對生活的挫折、面對巨大壓力時應尋求信任的人協助,以及不應壓抑負面情緒。

微電影《白夜》是一部關於自我接納、擁抱自我光明面與陰暗面、與內在自我連結的電影,內容講述活潑上進的大一女主角遇到心事重重的室友,女主角嘗試開解室友,卻無法讓她走出困苦;經歷種種之後,她最終發現了真相。

微電影的拍攝靈感源於澳大人文學院葡文系教授姚京明的詩作《白夜》,劇本由澳門導演余志雲和澳大人文學院葡文系二年級、滿珍紀念書院的王楚月聯合編寫,主角和大部分幕後工作人員均由滿珍紀念書院成員擔任。

UM students and faculty produce was invited to host short film screening at Colégio Mateus Ricci, to promoting raise mental health awareness to secondary students

Students and faculty from Moon Chun Memorial College (MCMC) of the University of Macau (UM) have produced a short film titled The Invisible Self to raise public awareness about mental health. Film screenings and post-screening sharing sessions are being held in several local secondary schools, the first of which was held at Colégio Mateus Ricci and attracted the participation of nearly 600 students and teachers.

The film was well received by the students and teachers at Colégio Mateus Ricci. During the post-screening sharing session, the producer, director, screenwriter, and actors of the film, as well as social workers of MCMC engaged in interactions with the audience and shared some knowledge on mental health issues such as emotional suppression, symptoms and management of stress, and childhood trauma. Some students said that the film enabled them to learn about self-acceptance, how to cope with setbacks in life, how to seek help from people they trust when facing great pressure, and not to suppress negative emotions.

The Invisible Self is a short film about self-acceptance, embracing both the positive and negative aspects of oneself, and establishing a connection with one’s inner self. The film tells the story of an outgoing and ambitious first-year student who encounters a deeply troubled roommate. She tries to uplift her roommate but struggles to help her break free from her inner turmoil. Through a series of incidents, she ultimately uncovers the truth behind her roommate’s struggles.

The inspiration for the film came from the Chinese poem ‘White Night’ written by Yao Jingming, professor in the Department of Portuguese of UM’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities. The script was co-written by Macao director Steven U and Celina Wang, a second-year student in UM’s Department of Portuguese and MCMC. The main characters and most of the crew members in the film were members of MCMC.

澳大研究團隊在肉瘤臨床治療有新發現

澳門大學健康科學學院副教授趙琦、院長鄧初夏聯同該院時任教授張曉華的團隊從腫瘤免疫微環境的角度定義了肉瘤的亞型,並識別出腫瘤免疫微環境的調控ceRNA網絡,通過分析疾病的分子機理及關鍵因子的數據,最終提出了潛在的治療藥物,為肉瘤的臨床治療提供了新的思路。研究成果已發表於國際知名學術期刊《臨床癌症研究》。

競爭性內源RNA(ceRNA)是近幾年來備受學術關注的對象。由此產生的ceRNA網絡假設詮釋了一種比miRNA調控網絡更為精細複雜的基因表達調控模式,涉及更多的RNA分子,包括mRNA、編碼基因假基因、長鏈非編碼和miRNA等。ceRNA網絡調控的關鍵在於通過競爭性結合miRNA進而調控其靶基因的表達。這種調控模式的揭示有助於從更深層面上挖掘基因功能和調控機制,以便於更深入全面的解析細胞發育、疾病分子機理等很多重要的生物學現象。同時,ceRNA網絡分析得到的關鍵因子也是潛在的預後標記物和治療靶點。目前,在肝癌、乳腺癌、肺癌等多種腫瘤中證實了ceRNA調控機制在腫瘤發生、發展及轉移中的作用。

另外,腫瘤微環境(tumor microenvironment, TME)是一種由腫瘤細胞誘導,在其周圍產生大量的生長因子、趨化因子以及基質降解酶的綜合體系,當中存在豐富的腫瘤細胞、基質細胞、細胞因子和免疫細胞等成分。這些成分與腫瘤細胞密切相互作用,影響腫瘤的生長、進展和轉移。近年來,研究發現ceRNA網絡調控與腫瘤微環境關係密切,例如ceRNA網絡可顯著區分骨肉瘤和間充質幹細胞,以及在結直腸癌中發現與免疫浸潤相關的預後ceRNA網絡等。然而,在軟組織肉瘤中,ceRNA網絡與腫瘤微環境的調控和重構關係還沒有明確的研究,關於ceRNA網絡對肉瘤發展的影響和ceRNA網絡在肉瘤病人中的預後價值缺乏充分的研究。

基於以上論述,研究團隊觀察到在軟組織肉瘤中普遍存在腫瘤免疫浸潤低、中、高三種亞型,且不同亞型病人之間的總體生存率差異顯著。團隊通過結合病人的生存數據,在亞型間識別了關鍵的ceRNA網絡,發現該關鍵ceRNA網絡具有潛在的預後價值,並進一步發現該關鍵ceRNA網絡的調控與腫瘤微環境的形成和重構密切相關。團隊同時結合免疫分型特徵,利用藥物/小分子功能注釋及其與基因互作關係數據庫,找到一種潛在的治療藥物——組蛋白脫乙酰酶抑制劑Trichostatin A。經動物模型和體外實驗驗證,該藥物能有效降低體內組蛋白脫乙酰酶活性,抑制腫瘤生長。而該研究中識別到的關鍵ceRNA網絡中的因子,極有可能就是Trichostatin A在肉瘤中的作用靶點。研究為肉瘤病人的診療提供了新的理論依據和思路。

UM research team makes new discoveries in clinical treatment of sarcoma

A research team led by Zhao Qi, associate professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at the University of Macau (UM), and Chuxia Deng, dean of FHS, together with Zhang Xiaohua, former professor in FHS, have defined sarcoma subtypes from the perspective of the tumour immune microenvironment (TIME) and identified a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network that regulates TIME. By analysing the molecular mechanisms of the disease and data on the key factors, the team proposed a potential therapeutic drug, offering a new approach to the clinical treatment of sarcoma. The research results have been published in the internationally renowned academic journal Clinical Cancer Research.

ceRNA has been the subject of much academic interest in recent years. The hypothesis derived from the resulting ceRNA network provides a more precise and intricate model for interpreting gene expression regulation compared to the miRNA regulatory network. This regulatory model involves a broader range of RNA molecules, including mRNAs, coding pseudogenes, long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), and miRNA. The key to the ceRNA regulatory network lies in the competitive binding of miRNAs to regulate the expression of their target genes. Revealing this regulatory model is beneficial to the exploration of gene function and regulatory mechanism at a deeper level, as well as comprehensive analysis of many important biological phenomena, such as cell development and the molecular mechanisms of disease. Moreover, the key factors obtained from the ceRNA network analysis can be considered as potential prognostic markers and therapeutic targets. Currently, the role of the ceRNA regulatory mechanism in tumour genesis, development, and metastasis has been confirmed in various cancers such as liver cancer, breast cancer, and lung cancer.

Additionally, the tumour microenvironment (TME) is a complex system induced by tumour cells, around which a large number of growth factors, chemokines, and matrix-degrading enzymes are produced. This microenvironment is rich in tumour cells, stromal cells, cytokines, and immune cells. These components interact closely with tumour cells and affect tumour growth, progress, and metastasis. In recent years, the ceRNA regulatory network has been found to be closely associated with TME. For example, the ceRNA network can be used to distinguish tumours from normal tissues and mesenchymal stem cells in osteosarcoma, and a prognostic ceRNA network associated with immune infiltration has been found in colorectal cancer. However, there are no studies that can clarify the relation between the regulation and remodelling of the ceRNA network in the TME of soft tissue sarcomas, and there is a lack of research on the implications of the ceRNA network on sarcoma development as well as the prognostic value of the ceRNA network in sarcoma patients.

Based on the above findings, the research team found that there are three common subtypes of soft tissue sarcoma, namely low, moderate, and high tumour immune infiltration, and the overall survival of patients with different subtypes differ significantly. Combining the survival data of patients, the team identified a critical ceRNA network among the subtypes, which was found to have potential prognostic value. They further discovered that the ceRNA network is closely linked to the formation and remodelling of the TME in sarcoma. In addition, based on the characteristics of the subtypes identified, the team identified a potential therapeutic drug, Trichostatin A, which is a histone deacetylases inhibitor, from a database collecting drug/small molecule functional annotation and its interaction with genes. In animal experiments and in vitro experiments, the drug proved effective in reducing histone deacetylase activity and inhibiting the growth of tumours, and the critical ceRNA network identified in the study is likely to be the therapeutic target of Trichostatin A in the treatment of sarcoma. This study provides new theoretical bases and new approaches for the diagnosis and treatment of sarcoma patients.

The corresponding authors of the study are Zhao Qi, Chuxia Deng, and Zhang Xiaohua. FHS PhD graduate Leng Dongliang, PhD student Yang Ziyi, and Research Assistant Professor Sun Heng are the co-first authors. FHS Professor Chen Guokai, postdoctoral fellow Song Chengcheng, and research assistant Ip Ka U also made important contributions to the study. UM, Tsinghua University establish sister-college relationship

 

Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College (HFPJC) of the University of Macau (UM) and Xiuzhong College of Tsinghua University have become sister colleges. In the presence of UM Rector Yonghua Song and Secretary of the Party Committee of Tsinghua University Qiu Yong, HFPJC Interim Master Mok Kai Meng and Xiuzhong College Dean Hu Hongying signed a memorandum of understanding on educational cooperation to establish a sister-college relationship. The two colleges will jointly explore the reform and development of the college system, promote the quality of talent cultivation in colleges, and carry out comprehensive and in-depth exchanges and cooperation in the college system, scientific and educational forums, practice and innovation, and cultural education. 澳門中聯辦副主任黃柳權到澳大法學院調研

中央人民政府駐澳門特別行政區聯絡辦公室副主任黃柳權一行到澳門大學法學院調研,期間高度讚揚法學院的發展及其對澳門法學的長期貢獻。

黃柳權一行在法學院院長唐曉晴陪同下參觀法學院的模擬法庭、演講廳、圖書館、法律研究中心、憲法與基本法研究中心,以及中國—葡語國家司法法律研究中心,了解法學院的現代化設施和在法律教研方面的持續努力。

黃柳權強調法學院在地區發展及國家佈局中的獨特地位和重要作用,並就澳門法律研究深入化、學院國際化、應對澳門社會的法律挑戰及涉外人才的培養等方面進行指導。

Deputy Director of Macao Liaison Office Huang Liuquan visits UM FLL

 

Huang Liuquan, deputy director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, and other representatives visited the Faculty of Law of the University of Macau (UM). Accompanied by Tong Io Cheng, dean of FLL, they visited FLL’s Moot Court, Lecture Hall, Faculty Library, Centre for Law Studies, Centre for Constitutional Law and Basic Law Studies, and Centre for Judicial and Legal Studies of China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries to learn about the faculty’s modern facilities and its ongoing efforts in legal teaching and research. Huang emphasised the unique position and important role of FLL in the regional development and national layout, and advised on deepening legal research in Macao, enhancing the faculty’s level of internationalisation, addressing the legal challenges faced by Macao society, and nurturing talent in the field of foreign-related legal affairs. He also praised FLL for its development as well as its long-term contribution to legal studies in Macao.

澳大國旗儀仗隊走進中學宣揚國旗文化

為慶祝澳門回歸祖國24周年,澳門大學國旗儀仗隊舉辦“走進中學——澳門大學附屬應用學校”交流活動,宣揚國旗文化知識及國家安全的觀念。

澳門大學附屬應用學校校長盧蘭馨和多名師生出席活動。澳大國旗儀仗隊的骨幹成員和澳大附校升旗隊隊員首先採用聯合升旗模式,在該校操場以鏗鏘有力的步伐、整齊劃一的動作完成升旗。

雙方其後在該校的大禮堂開展交流。儀仗隊通過講解國旗文化知識和介紹隊伍等方式,向學生宣傳國家安全的觀念,弘揚國旗文化和愛國愛澳精神。他們也介紹了國旗、儀仗指揮刀等重要儀仗用具,並指導學生體驗擎旗、持指揮刀等動作。

參與的活動澳大附校學生表示,看著國旗冉冉升起感到非常自豪,同時對聯合升旗模式感到新奇,期間加深了對國旗文化的興趣,對愛國愛澳精神也有了更深的體會。

UM National Flag Team promotes knowledge of national flag at local secondary school

 

On the occasion of celebrating the 24th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland, the National Flag Team of the University of Macau (UM) held an exchange activity at the Affiliated School of the University of Macau (ASUM). Lou Lan Heng, principal of ASUM, together with other teachers and students, participated in the event. Members of the UM National Flag Team and ASUM’s flag-raising team jointly conducted a flag-raising ceremony at the school’s playground. The two parties then held discussions in the school’s auditorium, where the UM National Flag Team promoted knowledge of the national flag and the concept of national security to the students. The team also presented the national flag, ceremonial sword, and other important instruments used for flag raising, and provided instructions to the students on how to properly hold the flag and the sword.

澳大發表2024宏觀經濟預測

澳門大學澳門研究中心及經濟學系發表2024年最新宏觀經濟預測,預計2024年的經濟增長處於8.3%至21.0%之間;服務出口增長為10.3%至26.7%之間;澳門特區政府最終收入維持在953億元至1,096億元左右。
 
基於內地旅客仍然是影響澳門發展的主要因素,以及沒有重大公共衛生影響正常社會運作的前設下,課題組考慮兩個內地旅客人數的可能性:情景一較樂觀────2024年人數回復到2019年水平;情景二則較審慎────2024年人數比2023年增加5%;據此,預測本地生產總值的基線分別增長21.0%至4,222億元(2019年的96.1%)(情景一)和8.3%至3,776億元(2019年的85.9%)(情景二)(增長率是與去年同期比較之實質變動率、絕對值以2021年環比物量計算);服務出口增長的基線預測分別為26.7%(情景一)和10.3%(情景二);整體失業率分別是1.9%(情景一)和2.1%(情景二);本地居民失業率分別是2.6%(情景一)和2.8%(情景二);預計澳門特區政府經常收入分別是1,096億元(情景一)和953億元(情景二)。
 
在接近三年防疫管控後,澳門於2022年12月改變防疫政策。2023年旅客人數開始回升,當中香港旅客復甦較快,2023年1至10月達到595萬人次,為2019年同期的97.1%;內地旅客人數在2023年1至10月則達到1,532萬人次,為2019年同期的64.4%;而其他地區旅客則復甦較慢,2023年1至10月人數為142萬人次,僅是2019年同期的40.7%。基於旅遊復甦,2023年首三季的實質服務出口達到2,009億元,是2019年同期的79.6%,當中實質博彩服務出口復甦較慢,僅為1,011億元,是2019年同期的56.1%。內部需求方面,私人消費需求和投資需求復甦表現良好,實質私人消費支出首三季為818億元,是2019年同期的98.2%,而實質固定資本形成總額首三季為358億元,是2019年同期的79.6%。物價維持平穩,2023年1至10月的消費物價通脹率僅為0.9%。勞動市場逐步復甦,2023年第3季整體失業率為2.4%,而本地居民失業率為3.1%,較2019年第3季的1.8%和2.5%仍然為高,但較2022年第3季最高的4.0%和5.2%回落不少;工作收入則恢復快速,2023年第3季每月工作收入中位數為18,000元,已經超過2019年同期的17,000元。
 
根據國際貨幣基金在2023年10月的預測,全球經濟增長將從2022年的3.5%降至2023年的3.0%和2024年的2.9%。隨著政策收緊開始產生負面影響,已開發經濟體經濟增長率預計將從2022年的2.6%放緩至2023年的1.5%和2024年的1.4%。新興市場和發展中經濟體2023年和2024年的經濟增長率預計將小幅下降,從2022年的4.1%降至2023年和2024年的4.0%。
 
課題組預計2024年澳門將會面對內地經濟發展的不確定性:房地產市場收縮、地方政府債務和企業債務都會影響居民收入,降低他們到澳門旅遊的興趣和消費能力。因此,課題組考慮兩個情景:情景一假設內地經濟增長放緩對澳門的影響較小,內地旅客人數持續有較高增長且2024年內地旅客人數回復到2019年水平。情景二則假設內地經濟增長放緩對澳門的影響較大,2024年的內地旅客人數只有很低增長,僅比2023年增加5%。
 
 
基於上述兩個情景,主要經濟變數預測如下:
 
• 本地生產總值的基線預測分別增長21.0%至4,222億元(2019年的96.1%)(情景一)和8.3%至3,776億元(2019年的85.9%)(情景二)。

《澳門宏觀經濟模型》簡介
 
《澳門宏觀經濟模型》是一個大型季度聯立方程計量模型,目前包含澳門經濟中七個主要部分——消費、投資、對外貿易、價格、政府部門、就業市場以及金融系統,共有306個變數和88條方程式,所用數據由1998年第1季開始,模型估算會隨著數據發表而定時更新,提供及時和有用的澳門經濟分析,協助決策者對未來作出合理的規劃。此模型由澳大榮譽博士、諾貝爾經濟學獎得主前詹姆士‧莫里斯教授和經濟學系老師開發與管理,課題組成員包括陳志誠、何偉雄和關鋒,項目現由澳大澳門研究中心管理。

UM releases Macroeconomic Forecast for Macao 2024

The Centre for Macau Studies and the Department of Economics of the University of Macau (UM) have released the Macroeconomic Forecast for Macao 2024, according to which Macao’s economic growth in 2024 will be between 8.3% and 21.0%, growth in exports of services will be between 10.3% and 26.7%, and the final revenue of the Macao SAR Government will remain between approximately MOP 95.3 billion and MOP 109.6 billion.

Based on the fact that visitors from mainland China are still the main factor affecting the development of Macao’s economy, and based on the assumption that there is no major public health impact on Macao’s normal social operations, the research team considered two possibilities for mainland visitor arrivals: in Scenario 1, which is more optimistic, the mainland visitor arrivals in 2024 will return to the level of 2019; in Scenario 2, which is more conservative, the mainland visitor arrivals in 2024 will increase by 5% over 2023. Based on these two scenarios, the research team has made the following forecasts: 1) the baseline forecasts for Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth are 21.0%, reaching MOP 422.2 billion (96.1% of 2019) (in Scenario 1), and 8.3%, reaching MOP 377.6 billion (85.9% of 2019) (in Scenario 2) respectively (the year-on-year growth rates are expressed in absolute values calculated using the chain volume measures for the year 2021); 2) the baseline forecasts for services export growth are 26.7% (Scenario 1) and 10.3% (Scenario 2) respectively; 3) the overall unemployment rate is projected to be 1.9% (Scenario 1) and 2.1% (Scenario 2) respectively; 4) the unemployment rate of residents is projected to be 2.6% (Scenario 1) and 2.8% (Scenario 2) respectively; and 5) the Macao SAR Government’s recurring revenue is projected to be MOP 109.6 billion (Scenario 1) and MOP 95.3 billion (Scenario 2) respectively.

Macao changed its anti-epidemic policy in December 2022 after nearly three years of epidemic prevention and control. Visitor arrivals began to recover in 2023, with Hong Kong visitor arrivals recovering faster, reaching 5.95 million between January and October 2023, which was 97.1% of the same period in 2019. Mainland visitor arrivals reached 15.32 million between January and October 2023, representing 64.4% of the same period in 2019. However, the recovery of visitor arrivals from other regions was slower, with 1.42 million arrivals between January and October 2023, only 40.7% of the same period in 2019. On the back of tourism recovery, the exports of services reached MOP 200.9 billion in the first three quarters of 2023, representing 79.6% of the same period in 2019. However, the exports of gaming services recovered more slowly, and were only MOP 101.1 billion in the first three quarters of 2023, representing 56.1% of the same period in 2019. For domestic demand, both private consumption and investment have recovered well. The private consumption expenditure was MOP 81.8 billion in the first three quarters of 2023, which was 98.2% of the same period in 2019, while the gross fixed capital formation was MOP 35.8 billion in the first three quarters of 2023, which was 79.6% of the same period in 2019. Consumer prices remained stable, with the consumer price inflation rate between January and October 2023 at just 0.9%. The labour market is gradually recovering. While the overall unemployment rate in the third quarter of 2023 was 2.4%, the unemployment rate among local residents was 3.1%. Although these two rates were still higher compared to the figures of 1.8% and 2.5% recorded in the third quarter of 2019, they were significantly lower than the peaks of 4.0% and 5.2% recorded in the third quarter of 2022. Employment earnings have recovered quickly, with a median monthly employment earnings of MOP 18,000 in the third quarter of 2023, which has surpassed the level of MOP 17,000 recorded in the same period in 2019.

According to the October 2023 forecast by the International Monetary Fund, global economic growth will slow from 3.5% in 2022 to 3.0% in 2023 and to 2.9% in 2024. As policy tightening begins to have a negative impact, advanced economies are expected to slow from 2.6% in 2022 to 1.5% in 2023 and to 1.4% in 2024. Emerging market and developing economies are projected to have a modest decline in growth, from 4.1% in 2022 to 4.0% in both 2023 and 2024.

The research team expects that Macao will face uncertainties about the economic development in mainland China in 2024: the contraction of the real estate market, as well as local government and corporate debt will affect residents’ income, leading to a decrease in their interest and purchasing power in travelling to Macao. Therefore, the research team formulated two scenarios: Scenario 1 assumes that the slowdown in mainland China’s economic growth will have less impact on Macao—mainland visitor arrivals will continue to grow at a higher rate and returns to the level of 2019 by 2024. Scenario 2 assumes that the slowdown in mainland China’s economic growth will have a greater impact on Macao— mainland visitor arrivals in 2024 will have a very small growth, only 5% compared to 2023.

Based on the above two scenarios, the forecasts of major economic variables are as follows:

• The baseline forecasts for GDP growth are 21.0% to MOP 422.2 billion (96.1% of 2019 level) (Scenario 1), and 8.3% to MOP 377.6 billion (85.9% of 2019 level) (Scenario 2) respectively.

• The baseline forecasts for growth in the exports of services are 26.7% (Scenario 1), and 10.3% (Scenario 2) respectively.

• The baseline forecasts for growth in private consumption expenditure are 5.3% (Scenario 1), and 5.0% (Scenario 2) respectively.

• The baseline forecasts for growth in gross fixed capital formation are 11.2% (Scenario 1), and 7.2% (Scenario 2) respectively.

• The inflation rate (measured by GDP deflator) is projected to rise by 3.3% (Scenario 1), and 2.4% (Scenario 2) respectively; and consumer price index is projected to increase by 1.5%.

• Median monthly employment earnings are projected to increase by 5.6% (Scenario 1), and 4.9% (Scenario 2) respectively.

• Unemployment rate is projected to be 1.9% (Scenario 1), and 2.1% (Scenario 2) respectively. The unemployment rate among local residents is projected to be 2.6% (Scenario 1), and 2.8% (Scenario 2) respectively.

• The Macao SAR Government’s recurring revenue is projected to be MOP 109.6 billion (Scenario 1), and MOP 95.3 billion (Scenario 2) respectively.

 

In order to timely analyse and assess the changes in Macao’s macro economy, starting from 2024, the research team will try to publish forecasts on a quarterly basis.

About the Macroeconometric Structural Model of Macao

The Macroeconometric Structural Model of Macao is a quarterly simultaneous-equation econometric model which covers seven blocks of Macao’s economy: consumption, investment, external sector, prices, government, labour market, and monetary sector. It includes 88 equations and 306 variables. Time series data start from the first quarter of 1998 and is updated once new data are available. Its results provide the community with a timely understanding of the state of Macao’s economy and support prudent decision-making. The model was founded by the late Prof Sir James Mirrlees, Nobel laureate in Economic Sciences and honorary doctor of social sciences of the University of Macau (UM), as well as faculty members in the Department of Economics of UM. Members of the research team include Chan Chi Shing, Ho Wai Hong, and Kwan Fung. The project is now managed by the Centre for Macau Studies of UM.

蘇港澳生物質能源材料論壇於澳大舉行

澳門大學及南京林業大學合辦“第三屆蘇港澳生物質能源與材料論壇”,匯聚內地、香港、澳門多名專家學者發表最新研究,為可持續能源和生物質材料的創新及發展貢獻智慧。

澳大科技學院副院長周萬歡表示,生物質是安全、環保、可再生的能源,同時也是唯一可再生及無害的碳資源。生物質能源與物質利用是實現雙碳目標的重要途徑,目前已受到各地政府和環境科學家的重視,並成為能源研究的熱門研究領域。澳大作為是次論壇的主辦單位之一,期望能牽頭加強各地科學家在該領域的合作、技術交流及人才培養,同時提升中國的生物質能源與材料的應用,期望能在未來的能源供應中發揮作用,以應對全球氣候變化。

Jiangsu-Hong Kong-Macau Conference on Biomass Energy and Materials held at UM

 

The University of Macau (UM) and Nanjing Forestry University jointly held the Third Jiangsu-Hong Kong-Macau Conference on Biomass Energy and Materials. The conference brought together experts and scholars from mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao to present their latest research findings and contribute their wisdom to the innovation and development of sustainable energy and biomass materials.

Zhou Wanhuan, associate dean of UM’s Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), said that biomass is a safe, environmentally friendly, and renewable energy source, and is the only renewable and harmless carbon resource. The utilisation of biomass energy and materials is an important pathway to achieving the ‘dual carbon’ goal. As a result, biomass has attracted considerable attention from governments and environmental scientists around the world, and has become a popular research area in the field of energy. She added that as one of the organisers of the conference, UM hopes to take the lead in strengthening cooperation, technological exchange, and talent cultivation among scientists in the field, while promoting the application of biomass energy and materials in China, with a view to playing a role in future energy supply to address global climate change.

The conference focused on the development, processing, and application of biomass energy, biomass policies and their implementation, sustainable energy and circular economy, as well as how to improve the utilisation of biomass energy in China to ensure national energy supply. Experts and scholars shared their latest achievements and cutting-edge technologies in their respective research fields. In addition to speeches and presentations by experts, the conference also included discussion sessions and visits to UM’s laboratories to promote innovation and the development of related technologies.

Those attending the conference also included Huang Shengbiao, deputy head of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Chu Iek Man, senior manager of the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund; Miao Zimei, vice president of Nanjing Forestry University; Wang Chunming, director of UM’s Research Services and Knowledge Transfer Office; and Hao Tianwei, assistant professor in FST.

澳門大學舉辦東南亞中學教育學術會議,29名來自印尼、泰國、菲律賓及越南共16所中學和教育機構的校長及教育界代表來澳參與,共同探討全球最新教育趨勢,了解報讀澳大流程、入學要求、國際學生獎學金等資訊。

澳大副校長馬許願表示,作為澳門特別行政區一所國際化綜合性公立大學,澳大一直致力提升校園國際化水平。為此,希望通過是次會議連結東南亞國家的中學和教育機構,讓他們加深了解澳大,進一步推廣澳門高等教育,吸引更多優秀學生來澳升學。

UM holds educational conference with Southeast Asian high schools


The University of Macau (UM) held the Educational Conference of UM and Southeast Asian High Schools. A total of 29 delegates, including principals of 16 secondary schools and educational institutions and representatives of the education sector from Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam, attended the conference. During the event, they discussed the latest global trends in education and learned about UM’s admission process and requirements, scholarships for international students, and other information.

According to UM Vice Rector Rui Martins, UM, as an international public comprehensive university in the Macao SAR, is committed to advancing its level of internationalisation. He expressed hope that the conference will enable high schools and educational institutions in Southeast Asia to gain a better understanding of UM, thereby promoting Macao’s higher education and attracting more outstanding students to Macao. The delegates praised UM for its campus environment and facilities, as well as its residential college system. They pointed out that the conference provided an opportunity for them to participate in academic discussions and exchanges and learn about UM’s developments and achievements, adding that they will encourage their students to apply to UM. Discussions were also held between the delegation and representatives of various faculties and the Student Affairs Office of UM. In addition, the delegation visited the UM Wu Yee Sun Library, the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City, the Faculty of Business Administration, the UM Sports Complex and other sports facilities. The delegates also met with representatives of UM’s international students at Cheng Yu Tung College to learn about their campus life at the university.

澳大辦大灣區治理挑戰學術會議

為促進學術界與實務界的深入對話,澳門大學社會科學學院舉辦“粵港澳大灣區治理挑戰:多元視角、方法與範式”學術會議。多名來自著名大學如清華大學、北京大學、香港大學等不同學科的學者於會上打破傳統學科界限,探討大灣區的治理挑戰。

澳大社會科學學院院長胡偉星表示,會議為治理領域的學者提供了學術交流機會,也為政策制定者和行業從業者提供了參考和借鑒。通過深入討論和合作,參與者解讀包括大灣區治理在內的前沿議題,為未來的研究和實踐指明了方向。

有與會者認為,會議對推動粵港澳大灣區治理學科的進一步發展具有積極影響,並為進一步深化區域合作與研究提供了堅實基礎。

會議開幕式由胡偉星主持。演講環節由北京大學講席教授兼中國政治學研究中心主任、深圳大學政府管理學院院長俞可平和香港中文大學社會科學院政府與行政學系主任盧永鴻分別就科技治理與環境治理發表演講。

UM holds conference on governance challenges in GBA

 

The Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) of the University of Macau (UM) successfully hosted the academic conference titled ‘Forging Solutions to Governance Challenges in the Greater Bay Area: Diverse Perspectives, Methods, and Paradigms’, with the aim of promoting an in-depth dialogue between academics and practitioners. During the conference, scholars from renowned universities such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, and the University of Hong Kong addressed the governance challenges in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), transcending the boundaries of traditional disciplines.

Hu Weixing, dean of FSS, said that the conference served as a platform for scholars in the field of governance to exchange ideas, and provided references for policymakers and industry practitioners. Through in-depth discussions and collaborations, attendees could explore topical issues, including the governance of the GBA, and offer invaluable insights for future research and practice.

Some attendees agreed that the conference would play a significant role in developing the study of governance of the GBA and provide substantial support for deepening regional cooperation and research.

The opening ceremony of the conference was presided over by Hu. Yu Keping, chair professor at Peking University (PKU), director of the PKU Research Center for Chinese Politics, and dean of the School of Government at Shenzhen University, and Carlos Lo, head of the Department of Government and Public Administration at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, delivered a keynote speech on technology governance and environmental governance respectively.

The conference featured six sub-forums covering a wide range of topics, including collaborative governance, environmental governance, digital governance, non-profit and corporate governance, legal governance, and global governance. Moderators and guest speakers at the sub-forums included scholars from higher education institutions in Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao, and other parts of mainland China, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, Renmin University of China, Communication University of China, the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, University of Macau, and Macau University of Science and Technology. They held in-depth discussions and exchanged ideas on the latest research findings in their respective fields, with a view to facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration and exploring innovative solutions to governance challenges.

為慶祝澳門回歸祖國24周年,澳門大學國旗儀仗隊在澳大蓮花廣場隆重舉行升國旗儀式,向國家及澳門特區致以祝賀和敬意,展現了澳大師生的愛國情操。

升旗儀式由澳大國旗儀仗隊隊員進行,他們以整齊的方陣,邁著鏗鏘的步伐,護送國旗、區旗和校旗走向升旗台。隨著中華人民共和國國歌的奏響,三面旗幟緩緩升起,飄揚在蓮花廣場上空。現場人員莊嚴肅立向國旗行使注目禮,向特區送上最誠摯的祝福,也表達了對偉大祖國的深厚感情。

UM holds flag-raising ceremony to celebrate Macao’s return to motherland

 

The University of Macau (UM) held a flag-raising ceremony at its Lotus Square to celebrate the 24th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland. During the ceremony, the UM National Flag Team marched towards the flag-raising platform, and raised the national flag, the regional flag, and the university flag while the national anthem of the People’s Republic of China played. Attendees of the flag-raising ceremony stood solemnly facing the national flag, and observed it with respectful attention. Nearly 150 UM members attended the ceremony, including Paul Pang, dean of students; Lam Chee Shiong, college master of Lui Che Woo College; Wong Man Chung, interim college master of Cheong Kun Lun College; Tam Sik Chung, interim college master of Shiu Pong College; and Anita Chau, head of the Student Resource Section.
