澳大工料測量課程助建築業與國際接軌

為配合澳門建築工程業界的自我提升並與國際接軌,澳門大學持續進修中心開辦了第三期“建設商務管理(工料測量)高級專業文憑課程"並舉行結業禮。今期共有30名學員取得文憑,並獲英國皇家特許土木工程測量師學會專業認證。

畢業禮上,澳大持續進修中心主任劉丁己致辭時表示,目前三期的課程共有73人結業,第四期有28人正在修讀,課程持續為澳門業界培訓具有工料測量專業知識的人員,並協助他們取得國際認證。為配合社會發展的需要,持續進修中心將繼續提供優質及多元化的專業培訓課程。

澳門立法會議員及澳門工程師學會會長胡祖杰表示,學員從課程中獲得廣泛的專業知識,並運用在實際工作當中,期望他們共同努力提高澳門建築行業的專業性。英國皇家特許土木工程測量師學會會長及大中華區首席代表姜鎮昌表示,通過加強與澳大在工料測量領域的持續合作,相信能滿足澳門建築行業的高要求,對澳門建築業的發展作出貢獻。

劉丁己、姜鎮昌及英國皇家特許土木工程測量師學會監事陳玉嬋為學員頒授證書。學員代表周子良表示,通過是次課程對工料測量及建設商務管理有更深入了解,有助提升澳門從事建築行業的相關專業技能及知識,日後在國內外就業或創業都能受益。

建設商務管理(工料測量)高級專業文憑課程由澳大持續進修中心和英國特許土木工程測量師學會合辦,共 210學時,學員主要為相關行業的專業人士,導師均來自該學會。澳大持續進修中心將繼續與各行業的國際專業學會合作,開辦不同類型的文憑課程。

UM offers diploma course in quantity surveying to bridge local construction industry to international standards

The Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) of the University of Macau (UM) held a closing ceremony for the third intake of the Advanced Professional Diploma in Construction Commercial Management (Quantity Surveying). A total of 30 participants completed the programme and received a diploma, which is also recognised by the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES). During the event, Matthew Liu Ting Chi, director of UM’s CCE; Andrew Keung, chairman of CICES (Hong Kong Region) and CICES president’s representative (The Greater China); and Katherine Chan, supervisor of CICES (Macao Region), presented certificates to the participants. Wu Chou Kit, member of Macao’s Legislative Assembly and chairman of the Macau Institute of Engineers, also attended the ceremony. The diploma course is jointly offered by CCE of UM and CICES and consists of 210 study hours. The participants are mainly professionals from the sectors concerned and the instructors are from CICES.

澳大團隊奪大學生創業賽亞軍

澳門大學團隊參加“香洲區第十屆大學生創業大賽”,以“麥芽渣硬碳負極電芯材料”項目在清華大學、中山大學、香港城市大學等高校的項目中脫穎而出獲得亞軍,將可免租入駐香洲區的創業基地。

獲獎項目由澳大鄭裕彤書院創業團隊張雲哲、陳穎及劉泳兒組成,應用物理與材料研究院副教授許冠南、鄭裕彤書院院長黃承發及導師鄧宇明博士提供指導。張雲哲表示,團隊聚焦當前熱門的電池產業,探索使用麥芽渣作為原材料,生產硬碳作為電池負極技術及商業化的可行性。團隊將繼續專注於硬碳負極材料的研發,為生產鈉離子電池、鋰離子電池等的企業提供高性價比的綠色電極材料,從而提高能量密度及迴圈壽命、降低成本,以推動可再生能源在大灣區和澳門的廣泛應用,助力當地實現綠色能源目標,為社會創造更清潔、可持續的未來。

澳大鄭裕彤書院創業團隊在今年5月成立,並在鄭裕彤書院與香港理工大學應用物理科學系合辦的創業營“我的初創時代”中組建,期間共開展了五個具發展潛力的創業項目,得獎的“麥芽渣硬碳負極電芯材料”便是其中之一。是次獲獎可獲得獎金兩萬元人民幣、三年免租入駐香洲區大學生創業孵化基地,以及全流程創業孵化服務、宣傳推廣、投融資對接等企業服務。

“香洲區第十屆大學生創業大賽”的決賽暨頒獎儀式在珠海市高技能人才公共實訓中心舉行,參賽項目涵蓋新材料、人工智慧、醫療健康、元宇宙、數位創意、鄉村振興、非遺傳承等眾多產業領域。

UM team wins second place in entrepreneurship competition for university students

An entrepreneurial team from Cheng Yu Tung College at the University of Macau (UM) won second place in the 10th Xiangzhou District University Student Entrepreneurship Competition with their project ‘Malt Residue as Hard Carbon Anode Material’. According to the UM team, their idea was inspired by the thriving battery industry, leading them to explore the utilisation of malt residue as a raw material to produce hard carbon used in battery anodes, along with the potential of commercialising the technology. The team will continue to focus on the research and development of hard carbon anode materials, aiming to provide cost-effective and environmentally friendly electrode materials for enterprises that produce sodium-ion batteries and lithium-ion batteries. The development of such materials can promote the widespread adoption of renewable energy in the Greater Bay Area and Macao, thus contributing to creating a cleaner and more sustainable future.

澳大向逾400名品學兼優學生頒發獎學金

澳門大學今(22)日舉行“澳大獎學金頒獎典禮2023",分兩場向404名品學兼優的學生頒發獎學金及學術獎項,以作嘉許。

澳大校長宋永華感謝各獎學金及學術獎項捐贈者。他表示,按照大學五年發展規劃的部署,澳大正不斷優化學科體系和課程建設,深化協同育人模式,推動愛國愛澳人才培養,並積極鼓勵和協助學生參與大灣區的學習和實踐活動。當前,澳門正在加快推進經濟適度多元,深度參與橫琴粵澳深度合作區的建設。澳大緊密配合特區政府施政,並結合新形勢、新變化不斷作出積極的調整與安排,在學生規模、學術水平,以及本地和國際的聲譽方面均有所提升,為大學未來的進步與發展創造更堅實的條件。

UM awards scholarships to more than 400 outstanding students

The University of Macau (UM) today (22 November) held the Scholarship Presentation Ceremony 2023. During the ceremony, the university presented scholarships and academic prizes to 404 students for their outstanding academic performance.

UM Rector Yonghua Song congratulated the students and expressed gratitude to the donors of the scholarships and academic prizes. Following its five-year development plan, UM continuously enhances its academic layout and curriculum design, deepens collaborative education models and patriotic education, and actively encourages and supports students’ participation in the Greater Bay Area. As Macao accelerates efforts towards moderate economic diversification and the development of the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, UM maintains close collaboration with the SAR government, proactively adjusting and planning its strategies to effectively respond to new challenges and changes. The university has made remarkable progress and advancements in student enrolment, academic standards, as well as its local and international reputation, thereby establishing a solid foundation for future progress and development.

To encourage students to strive for excellence, UM offered more than 80 scholarships and academic prizes in the past year. In the 2022/2023 academic year, UM received a total of over MOP 4.4 million in academic prizes and scholarships from more than 50 institutions and individuals, which were awarded to more than 450 students. Some of the academic prizes were presented earlier at the Academic Prize Presentation Ceremony.

澳大在催產素與社會認知大腦領域取得重要進展

澳門大學認知與腦科學研究中心助理教授伍海燕的研究團隊在催產素與社會認知大腦研究領域取得重要進展,為催產素如何影響個體差異提供了新的證據和相應的機制,也為未來臨床和非臨床應用催產素的研究提供啟示。研究成果被多部國際著名期刊如Human Brain Mapping接收。

催產素作為一種重要的神經肽,已被證明與社會適應、親社會行為及社會認知密切相關。在行為水準上,催產素可以調節人類對面孔、情緒等社會線索的識別和記憶能力。尤其針對面孔而言,有研究者發現催產素可以增強對於面孔刺激記憶,並且提高杏仁核對於情緒面孔的響應。另外,以往研究發現其可以促進社會連結,改善社交互動,調控社會認知過程中凸顯資訊的加工。

自我—他人區分(self-other distinction)在人們的日常社會交互和決策中起到至關重要的作用。同時,在作出自我或他人相關的社會決策時,面孔是最為凸顯的刺激,人們會通過他人面孔和自我面孔的相似性來調整利他行為和相關的經濟決策。

研究團隊深入探討了催產素對個體的功能連接和行為之間關聯的影響,發現催產素會顯著增強靜息態功能連接、任務態功能連接和任務行為表現三者之間的聯繫(圖1);並進一步發現三者之間聯繫的增強可以部分解釋為催產素改變了大腦在靜息態和任務態下的功能連接,主要涉及到邊緣系統、前額葉皮層、顳極和顳頂葉交界處等區域。

該研究使用基於功能連接的預測模型(CPM)來檢驗不同狀態下的功能連接是否能夠預測任務中的行為表現(圖2),以及催產素是否能夠提高功能連接對行為表現的預測準確性,最後在全腦水準上進行了靜息態和任務態功能連接之間的相關性分析,以評估催產素對兩種狀態下的功能連接之間關係的影響。CPM可以基於功能連接預測認知行為或人格特質等,已廣泛用於全腦關聯研究(BWAS)。它經常被用來從功能連接中提取最相關的特徵來預測行為、人格特質或精神症狀的個體變異性。先前的許多研究已經證明了CPM在預測流體智力、注意力、創造能力、作弊行為等方面的個體差異的魯棒性。

研究發現,無論是靜息態還是任務態,施加催產素的群體的CPM預測模型的正確率顯著高於施加安慰劑的群體(圖3);並且在施加催產素的群體中,靜息態和任務態功能連接之間的關聯顯著比施加安慰劑的群體更強(圖4)。研究團隊進一步發現在任務態和靜息態中,CPM分類模型可以顯著區分催產素群體和安慰劑群體的功能連接,且施加催產素的群體中,大部分在CPM分類模型裡權重較大的功能連接都與行為表現顯著相關聯,而在施加安慰劑的群體中則沒有發現這種效應(圖5和圖6)。這些結果為神經肽如何導致不同水準的個體差異之間的關聯增加提供了新的證據和相應的機制,並可能啟發未來對神經肽在臨床和非臨床應用的交叉研究。

UM achieves significant advances in research on oxytocin and social cognitive neuroscience

A research team led by Wu Haiyan, assistant professor at the Centre for Cognitive and Brain Sciences of the University of Macau (UM), has achieved significant advances in the field of oxytocin and social cognitive neuroscience. Their research provides new evidence and a corresponding mechanism on how oxytocin causes increased associations among inter-individual differences, and also provides inspirations for future research on the clinical and non-clinical applications of oxytocin. The research results have been accepted by several internationally renowned journals, such as Human Brain Mapping.

Oxytocin, an important neuropeptide, has been proven to be closely linked to social adaptation, pro-social behaviours, and social cognition. At the behavioural level, oxytocin can modulate human abilities in recognising and memorising social cues such as faces and emotions. Specifically, some researchers have found that oxytocin can boost recognition memory for faces and increase amygdala responses to emotional faces. In addition, previous studies have shown that oxytocin can promote social bonding, navigate social interactions, and regulate the processing of salient information.

Self-other distinction plays a crucial role in daily social interactions and decision-making. Moreover, faces serve as the most salient stimuli in making social decisions that involve oneself or others. People adjust their altruistic behaviours and corresponding economic decisions according to the similarity between their faces and those of others.

The research team investigated the effects of oxytocin on the relationship between individuals’ functional connectivity and behaviour. They found that oxytocin significantly enhances the links between resting-state functional connectivity, task-state functional connectivity, and task behaviour performance. Subsequent analysis further revealed that the enhancement in these connections can be explained in part by the fact that oxytocin alters the functional connectivity of the brain in both resting and task states, mainly involving areas such as the limbic system, the prefrontal cortex, the temporal pole, and the temporoparietal junction.

The study employed a connectome-based predictive model (CPM) to examine whether functional connectivity in different states can predict task behaviour performance, and whether oxytocin can improve the prediction accuracy of functional connectivity in behavioural performance. A correlation analysis was conducted at the whole-brain level to assess the correlation between resting-state and task-state functional connectivity, and evaluate the effect of oxytocin on the relationship between functional connectivity in the two states. CPM can predict cognitive behaviour or personality traits on the basis of functional connectivity and has been widely used in brain-wide association studies (BWAS). It is often used to extract the most relevant features from functional connectivity in order to predict individual variability in behaviour, personality traits, or psychiatric symptoms. Many previous studies have demonstrated the robustness of CPM in predicting individual differences in fluid intelligence, attention, creativity, and cheating behaviours.

The study found that the group administered with oxytocin demonstrated significantly higher predictive accuracy in CPM compared to those administered with a placebo, in both resting and task states. Furthermore, the correlation between resting-state and task-state functional connectivity was notably stronger in the oxytocin group compared to the placebo group. Additional findings indicated that the CPM classifier could significantly distinguish the functional connectivity between oxytocin and placebo groups in both task and resting states. In the oxytocin group, most of the functional connections with larger weights in the CPM classifier were significantly correlated with behavioural performance, an effect not observed in the placebo group. These findings provide new evidence and a corresponding mechanism for how neuropeptides contribute to increased associations among inter-individual differences across different levels. They may inspire future interdisciplinary research on the clinical and non-clinical applications of neuropeptides.

Zhang Haoming and Chen Kun, PhD students at UM’s Centre for Cognitive and Brain Sciences are the co-first authors of the study. Bao Jin, a researcher at the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, also contributed to the study. 澳大鏡海人文論壇探討王安石詩歌

澳門大學人文學院舉辦“鏡海人文論壇”,由美國諾特丹大學東亞語言與文化系系主任、美國哈佛大學比較文學博士楊曉山以“ 唱反調的誘惑與危險:論王安石的昭君詩”為題發表演講,吸引近200名師生線上線下同步參加。

論壇上,澳大人文學院助理院長鄺耀基講述了學習中國詩詞的意義。人文學院助理院長張月則回顧了楊曉山在中國古典詩學及唐宋詩歌文化,尤其是在王安石詩學的學術成就和影響力,並介紹了楊曉山的最新著作。

楊曉山首先展示王安石《明妃曲二首》,特別是其中最具爭議的三句,進而針對詩歌是否模糊了漢胡分界這一問題,回溯黃庭堅、朱弁、羅大經以及其他諸家的評價與解讀,並結合其時代背景與政壇狀況,從北宋末至南宋初政治話語的語境之中分析對王安石詩歌的批評。此外,楊曉山討論歐陽修、司馬光的和詩與原詩在格式、寫作焦點、典故運用上的異同,提供理解王安石詩歌的另外一種途徑;亦探討朱熹、李壁等人的評價,回顧他們如何將王安石從政治批判的洪流中解脫,把爭議歸因王安石的求新立異。最後,楊曉山認為,王安石詩歌之所以引起軒然大波,與其說是緣於詩歌本身存在問題,不如說是因爲攻擊者在政治道德上對王安石存有偏見。

問答環節期間,澳大師生和線上觀眾與楊曉山進行深入探討,氣氛熱烈。楊曉山對學生如何做學問提出期許,指出即使面對數位人文的衝擊,也應充分掌握史料、細讀文本。

是次“鏡海人文論壇”為2023/2024學年的第一講,論壇每學年都會邀請不同研究領域的知名人文學者與澳門師生分享前沿研究成果,過往的論壇主題涵蓋文學、語言學、歷史、翻譯、藝術等多個領域。

UM holds Macao Humanities Forum on Chinese poet Wang Anshi’s poems

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH) of the University of Macau (UM) recently held the Macao Humanities Forum. The event featured Yang Xiaoshan, department chair in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Notre Dame and holder of a PhD in comparative literature from Harvard University. Prof Yang delivered a lecture titled ‘The Lure and Peril of Contrarianism: Wang Anshi’s Poems on Wang Zhaojun’. The lecture attracted more than 200 on-site and online participants, including faculty members and students of UM.

At the forum, Joaquim Kuong, assistant dean of FAH, discussed the significance of studying Chinese poetry. Zhang Yue, assistant dean of FAH, highlighted Prof Yang’s academic achievements and his influence on the study of classical Chinese poetry in the Tang and Song dynasties, in particular on the poetry of Wang Anshi. Zhang also introduced Prof Yang’s latest publication.

During the lecture, Prof Yang first presented Wang Anshi’s two poems on ‘Mingfei qu’ (Song of Princess Ming), with a focus on the three most controversial lines. He then discussed the issue about whether these lines blurred the division between the Chinese and the barbarians, and reviewed the evaluations and interpretations by Huang Tingjian, Zhu Bian, Luo Dajing, and other scholars on the lines. Taking into account the context of the poems and the political landscape at that time, he also analysed the criticism of Wang Anshi’s poetry in relation to the political discourse spanning from the late Northern Song dynasty through the early Southern Song dynasty. In addition, Prof Yang discussed the similarities and differences between the matching poems (heshi) and original poems of Ouyang Xiu and Sima Guang in terms of format, theme, and the use of allusion, providing another perspective to understand Wang Anshi’s poetry. He also talked about the commentaries of Zhu Xi and Li Bi, who freed Wang Anshi from political criticism and attributed the controversies to his pursuit of innovation. Prof Yang further explored the controversies arising from Wang Anshi’s two poems. He concluded that the criticism directed at Wang Anshi’s poems stemmed from the attackers’ political and moral biases towards the poet, rather than from any inherent flaws in the poems themselves.

During the Q&A session, Prof Yang engaged in in-depth discussions with UM students and faculty, as well as online participants. He emphasised the importance of maintaining a solid understanding of historical materials and engaging in careful text reading, despite the impact of the digital humanities.

This was the first lecture of the Macao Humanities Forum for the 2023/2024 academic year. The forum, which is held every academic year, aims to provide a platform for world-renowned scholars in different fields of the humanities to share their latest research findings with local teachers and students. The themes of the previous editions have covered a wide range of fields, including literature, linguistics, history, translation, and arts.

UM holds Healthy University Week to promote healthy lifestyle

The University of Macau (UM) held the Healthy University Carnival 2023, the first event of the 17th Healthy University Activity Series, to encourage university members to lead a healthy lifestyle, and raise awareness of environment protection, as well as personal and campus safety. In his speech, UM Vice Rector Ge Wei said that as this year marked a new phase of the anti-pandemic measures, he was pleased to see the active participation of guests and UM members in the health promotion activities again. The university attaches great importance to the physical and mental health of its staff and students; it actively encourages them to maintain healthy habits and strive for a balance between their work, studies, and personal lives. Activities of the Healthy University Carnival included a presentation ceremony for first aid training course certificates, artistic cycling and rope skipping performances, as well as games and medical testing booths set up by various government departments.

澳門大學科技學院講座教授須成忠及助理教授徐歡樂的團隊在雲計算領域取得突破性研究進展。團隊提出了一個創新的資源管理系統,可提高計算資源利用效率,並節約CPU資源近1.6倍。研究成果已發表於計算機頂級期刊 ACM Transactions on Computer Systems(ToCS)。

人工智慧領域正經歷日新月異的科技變革,面對海量的計算資源需求,最大化計算資源的利用效率,支持更多計算量成為雲計算業界的挑戰。為了提高計算資源利用效率,團隊設計了全新資源管理系統Erms,能夠根據實際的工作量對資源進行動態調配和資源伸縮優化,並第一次在大規模複雜微服務場景下實現最優資源管理。此外,團隊還設計了一套新的調度策略,用以優化共用微服務的資源配置,大大提升了資源使用的效率。與現有微服務系統相比,Erms能將SLA違規的可能性降低到原來的五分之一,並節約CPU資源近1.6倍。

上述研究的論文《優化共享微服務的資源管理:可擴展的系統設計》是第一個完整解決微服務複用場景的研究,對雲原生系統的後續深入研究有重大啟發意義,現已在計算機期刊 ACM Transactions on Computer Systems (ToCS)發表。該期刊在計算機系統領域享有崇高聲譽,眾多計算機操作系統、網絡、數據庫和分佈式系統中的重要成果都是在該期刊發表,創刊40年以來收錄極少中國發表的文章,是次發表更是粵港澳大灣區的首篇文章。

論文的通訊作者為須成忠和徐歡樂,澳門大學與中國科學院聯合培養的博士畢業生、現為耶魯大學博士後羅樹添為第一作者。論文由澳門特別行政區科學技術發展基金(檔案編號:0024/2022/A1)、科技部重點研發計劃(編號:2019YFB2102100)和廣東省重點領域研發計劃(編號:2020B010164003)資助。論文的完整版本可瀏覽:https://doi.org/10.1145/3631607。

兩篇論文皆為團隊與中國科學院深圳先進技術研究院和雲計算國際龍頭企業阿里巴巴公司的合作成果,團隊的研究工作連續五年獲阿里巴巴“創新研究計劃”資助,並於2022年獲阿里巴巴優秀項目合作獎。中國計算機學會理事長、智慧城市物聯網國家重點實驗室學術委員會主任梅宏院士認為“在智慧城市和人工智能大模型浪潮中,雲計算起到核心作用,這兩篇重要論文的發表標誌澳大在雲計算方面的研究進入國際領先水準”。

UM makes significant breakthrough in computer science and improves computing resource efficiency

A research team led by Xu Cheng-Zhong, chair professor in the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of the University of Macau (UM), and Xu Huanle, assistant professor in FST, have made significant breakthroughs in the field of cloud computing. The team has designed an innovative resource management system that can improve the efficiency of computing resource use and reduce CPU resource use by nearly 1.6 times. The research results have been published in ACM Transactions on Computer Systems (ToCS), a leading computer science journal.

The artificial intelligence sector is undergoing rapid technological change. With a soaring demand for computing resources, optimising the efficiency of computing resources and accommodating larger computational workloads have become challenges for the cloud computing industry. To improve efficiency in the use of computing resources, the team has designed a new resource management system called Erms. The system is capable of dynamically deploying resources and optimising resource scaling based on actual workloads, and, for the first time, achieving optimal resource management in large-scale, complex microservice scenarios. In addition, the team has designed a new set of scheduling strategy to optimise resource allocation for shared microservices, which significantly improves the efficiency of resource utilisation. Compared with existing microservice systems, Erms can reduce the likelihood of SLA (service-level agreement) violations to one-fifth of the original risk, and achieve nearly 1.6 times savings in CPU resources.

Titled ‘Optimizing Resource Management for Shared Microservices: A Scalable System Design’, the paper is the first study to fully address microservice multiplexing scenarios. It has been published in ACM Transactions on Computer Systems (ToCS). The journal enjoys a high reputation in the field of computer system and has published many significant research results on computer operating systems, networks, databases, and distributed systems. Since its inception 40 years ago, the journal has included only a limited number of papers from China, and the abovementioned paper is the first contribution from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Prof Xu Cheng-Zhong and Prof Xu Huanle are the corresponding authors of the study. Luo Shutian, a doctoral graduate co-trained by UM and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (now a postdoctoral fellow at Yale University), is the first author. The research project was supported by the Science and Technology Development Fund of the Macao SAR (File no: 0024/2022/A1), the Key Research and Development Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology (File no: 2019YFB2102100), and the Guangdong Province Key Research and Development Program (File no: 2020B010164003). Furthermore, Prof Xu Cheng-Zhong’s team was awarded the sole Best Paper award at the ACM Symposium on Cloud Computing 2021 for their paper titled ‘Characterizing Microservice Dependency and Performance: Alibaba Trace Analysis’. This marks the first instance of a scholar from China (including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) receiving the award since the conference’s establishment in 2009.

Both of the abovementioned papers are the results of the team’s collaboration with the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Alibaba, an international and leading cloud computing company. The team has been funded by the Alibaba Innovative Research Program for five consecutive years and received the Alibaba Outstanding Collaborative Project Award in 2022. Mei Hong, chairman of the China Computer Federation and director of the Academic Committee of the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City, said that cloud computing plays a key role in the wave of smart cities and artificial intelligence models, adding that the publication of the two important papers indicates that UM’s research in the field of cloud computing has achieved international standing.

澳大專家學者解讀2024年施政報告

澳門大學澳門研究中心今(15)日舉行“2024年財政年度澳門特區施政報告”座談會,邀請專家學者解讀2024年施政報告,為特區未來施政提供意見。專家學者們肯定是次施政報告“鞏固提升,多元發展”的政策方向,認為“1+4產業”、琴澳融合,以及多項基建發展是過去多年政策的延伸,能有序推進澳門社會未來的發展。

座談會由澳大澳門研究中心主任林玉鳳主持。會上,澳門管理學院院長唐繼宗表示,是次施政報告的主軸為“鞏固提升,多元發展”,以恢復疫後社會和經濟為主,切合未來環球高利率的實際環境。是次施政報告把國家安全放在重點,“1+4產業”有清晰的佈局和路徑,其中也不忘照顧中小微企和社區經濟,這樣的佈局十分合理。他建議把社區經濟延伸至其他傳統社區、舊區活化避免滲入博彩元素,以及充份利用鄰近地區國際航空樞紐引進國際旅客。澳大社會科學學院助理教授關鋒認為,施政報告帶出穩中求進的信息。“穩中”以保民生為主(例如福利支援、房屋政策、扶持中小企等),側重鞏固疫後經濟恢復的成果,讓社會有更大信心在來年邁進。“求進”以發展經濟為重,特別是如何在多元道路走出亮麗的一步。他又指,施政報告除了不斷提及新興行業的各種思考,亦深化社會對多元的認識和參與,其中開拓海外遊客似乎是2024年短期內相對容易的發展路徑。

澳大工商管理學院副教授李振國關注宏觀層面的經濟政策。他認為多年來施政報告當中的土地資源、人力資源、資本吸引、多元產業等政策,正循國家戰略指引有序開展。就未來吸引旅客方面,將側重拓展國際客源。他指出,目前消費力較高的東北亞旅客市場,疫情後的恢復進度仍然較緩慢,當局應關注相關旅客的恢復情況。此外,目前高息環境下借貸成本高,有可能對澳門發債市場有影響。澳大科技學院副教授陸萬海關注城巿建設方面的政策。他認為是次施政報告延續了去年的相關建設項目並有序發展,但他提出“澳車北上”和“增加電動車的應用”兩者似乎存在矛盾,因為“澳車北上” 是巿民購買車輛的誘因,傾向選擇的車型未必有電動車款供應。而施政報告中提到的“新能源車輛提高到七成”是一個大膽的設想,必定需要相關政策扶持,期望未來環保排放標準的落實和執行。

澳大科技學院副教授黃承發在銀髮產業、城巿整體規劃、文藝產業、體育事業、中葡產業、科技產業、人才計劃、科普發展、航空物流九個方面作出分析。他重點提到各產業核心人才的培養和保留、產品的轉型和革新、中學科普的成效和產品延伸,以及怎樣發揮機場和港珠澳大橋物流效果等要點。此外,他認為需要盡快建設第五條大橋以輔助嘉樂庇總督大橋,解決城巿建設的發展問題。澳大工商管理學院副教授蘇小恩肯定適度多元產業以及“1+4產業”的規劃和發展方向,但她認為需要有相關政策落實。在演藝之都的議題上,她認為澳門的場地和設施配置具有優勢,但要細化巿場,也要平衡澳門演藝工作人員的發展,以國際演藝發展的機遇培育澳門巿場。體育之城方面,她認為可從“體育+文化”、“體育+旅遊”去細化巿場,選擇有發展潛力的體育項目,加強相關監管。至於舊區活化方面,六個歷史文化片區的打造和發展需要發掘每一個片區的特色和文化意義,避免千篇一律,亦需思考其對巿民日常生活的影響,定期進行評估和檢討。

澳大社會科學學院助理教授李展鵬認為,博企對六個歷史文化片區進行舊區活化,有優勢也有弱勢。優勢可能是其效率和行動力,但弱勢可能是其對澳門文化欠缺了解、難以與公眾溝通等,當中過於商業化的活化對巿民生活、交通可能會有負面影響。此外,他認為在過去十多年耕耘下,澳門培養了不少演藝相關人才,他們在外地都有不錯的成就,演藝之都的政策應著重建立相關巿場,吸引他們回流。澳門明愛總幹事潘志明關心澳門青年人整體的發展和福祉問題。他認為青年人作為照顧老齡人的社會支柱,經屋並非他們的首選,橫琴澳門新街坊路途亦較遠,另外青年人亦要面對外來人才競爭,以上種種令他們較為徬徨,政府應多關注他們的處境。他又指是次施政報告把照顧者津貼恆常化,對社會服務是一件好事。

澳大社會科學學院助理教授陳建新指出,除了普惠性、針對性及補充性的社會保障外,政府可以多嘗試類似最近長者公寓等的市場化社會保障政策,日後也可以考慮提供養老金融、逆按揭等的市場化產品。長者公寓也可以多考慮對接都市更新政策。他認為在長遠發展上,澳門在發展高新產業上應著重與內地珠江西部城市聯動,讓澳門產業有更多的發展腹地。澳大社會科學學院客席助理教授蘇桂龍注意到施政報告對巿民心理建康的著墨。他表示,數據顯示疫後自殺傾向並未回落,而澳門青年人的幸福感、生活滿意度也低於平均水平,整體顯示澳門巿民仍面對沉重的心理壓力,冀相關政策的細化和落實。此外,他認為澳門學制的修訂是一個契機,期望增加科技層面的內容之餘,亦能加入青年心理素質的內容,如加強職業技術教育,改善“技師”給予公眾的專業形象,將來可能是青年人的另一出路。

UM invites experts and scholars to discuss MSAR Government’s Policy Address for 2024

The Centre for Macau Studies (CMS) of the University of Macau (UM) held a seminar on the Policy Address for the Fiscal Year 2024 of the Macao SAR today (15 November). Experts and scholars were invited to discuss the policy address and provide suggestions for the future governance of Macao. During the seminar, experts and scholars expressed their support for the objective of ‘Consolidate Development and Enhance Diversification’ of the policy address. They also believe that the ‘1+4’ strategy, Macao-Hengqin integration, as well as the development of various infrastructures are extensions of the policies of previous years, which can promote the future social development of Macao in an orderly manner.

Agnes Lam Iok Fong, director of UM’s CMS, chaired the seminar. Tong Kai Chung, president of the Macau Institute of Management, said that the main theme of the policy address is ‘Consolidate Development and Enhance Diversification’, which focuses on post-pandemic economic and social recovery and is in line with the global high-interest rate environment in the future. The policy address puts national security as the main priority, and the ‘1+4’ strategy has a clear layout with a reasonable arrangement catering to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, as well as the community economy. In addition, he suggested extending the community economy to other traditional communities, preventing the infiltration of gaming elements when revitalising the old areas, and taking full advantage of the neighbouring international aviation hub to attract international tourists. Kwan Fung, assistant professor in UM’s Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS), believes that the policy address conveys the message of striving for progress while ensuring stability. ‘Stability’ refers to safeguarding people’s livelihoods through welfare support, housing policies, and support for small and medium-sized enterprises, with an emphasis on consolidating the results of the post-pandemic economic recovery, thereby giving society greater confidence to forge ahead in the coming year. ‘Progress’ focuses on economic development, in particular how to take a step toward economic diversification. He also pointed out that in addition to giving further deliberation on emerging industries, the policy address also involves deepening the community’s understanding and participation in diversification, among which exploring measures to attract international tourists seems to be a relatively straightforward development path in the short term in 2024.

Lei Chun Kwok, associate professor in UM’s Faculty of Business Administration (FBA), is concerned about macroeconomic policies. He believes that the policies on land resources, human resources, investment attraction, and diversified industries, as set out in policy addresses over the years, are being implemented in an orderly manner in line with national strategies. With regard to attracting tourists in the future, the focus will be on expanding international tourist sources. He pointed out that the recovery of the tourism market in Northeast Asia, which has higher purchasing power, is still relatively slow after the pandemic, and the government should pay attention to the situation of the market concerned. In addition, in the current high-interest rate environment, the high cost of borrowing could have an impact on Macao’s bond market. Lok Man Hoi, associate professor in UM’s Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), is concerned about urban development policies. He said that the policy address covers the orderly development of the related projects mentioned in the previous edition. However, he pointed out there seems to be a contradiction between the ‘Northbound Travel for Macao Vehicles’ policy and the promotion of the popularisation of electric vehicles. The ‘Northbound Travel for Macao Vehicles’ policy may provide an incentive for the public to buy new vehicles; however, the electric vehicle market may not offer car models that satisfy their preferences. The proposal to ‘increase the proportion of new energy vehicles to 70 per cent’ mentioned in the policy address is a bold idea, which undoubtedly requires supportive policies. He also looks forward to the implementation and enforcement of environmental emission standards in the future.

Wong Seng Fat, associate professor in UM’s FST, analysed the policy address from nine aspects, namely the silver industry, urban planning, arts and cultural industries, sports industry, Chinese-Portuguese industry, tech industry, talent schemes, popularisation of science, and aviation logistics. Among these, he emphasised the cultivation and retention of core talent in various industries, issues related to production transformation and innovation, the effectiveness of the popularisation of science in middle schools and universities and the relevant product extension, as well as how to take full advantage of the logistics of airports and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. Furthermore, he stated that the authority should expedite the construction of the fifth bridge to assist the Macao-Taipa Bridge in solving the development issues posed by urban development. So Siu Ian, associate professor in UM’s FBA, acknowledged the planning and development direction of industrial diversification and the ‘1+4’ strategy. However, she believes that relevant policies should be in place for further implementation. Regarding the development of the ‘City of Performing Arts’, she pointed out that Macao has an advantage in terms of venue and facilities, but it is necessary to conduct market segmentation and balance the development of personnel in the industry, so as to benefit the local market with international opportunities. As for the development of the ‘City of Sports’, she suggested that the market can be divided into ‘sports + culture’ and ‘sports + tourism’. This approach involves selecting sports projects with development potentials and strengthening corresponding supervision. With regard to invigorating old areas, the development of the six historical and cultural areas requires exploring the characteristics and cultural significance of each area and avoiding identical development plans. She added that it is necessary to take account of their impact on the daily lives of the public and conduct regular evaluations and reviews.

Lei Chin Pang, assistant professor in UM’s FSS, believes that the gaming operators’ efforts to revitalise the six historical and cultural districts have both benefits and drawbacks. On the positive side, the gaming operators demonstrate efficiency and proactiveness. However, there are also drawbacks, such as a lack of clear understanding of local culture and an effective platform to communicate with the public. In addition, an excessive focus on commercial elements in the revitalisation projects may negatively impact people’s lives and traffic in the city. Regarding the entertainment industry, Prof Lei believes that Macao has successfully nurtured talented individuals over the past decade, who have also achieved good results outside of Macao. The policy of establishing a ‘City of Performing Arts’ may focus on establishing related markets to attract these individuals to develop in Macao. Pun Chi Meng, executive director of Caritas Macau, expressed concern about the overall development and welfare of young people in Macao. He believes that, due to the future responsibility of taking care of the elderly, economic housing may not be young people’s preferred housing option. Moreover, the location of the Macau New Neighbourhood in Hengqin, and competition from talent from outside Macao are sources of worry for the young people. Therefore, Pun suggests that the government should pay more attention to the challenges they face. On a positive note, he pointed out that the government’s decision to permanently include an allowance for carers is beneficial to the social service sector.

Chan Kin Sun, assistant professor in UM’s FSS, pointed out that in addition to universal, targeted, and supplementary social security measures, the government can introduce more market-oriented social security measures. Examples of such measures include the recently introduced senior housing project, as well as financial products tailored for the elderly, such as reverse mortgages. There is also a need to align the senior housing project with urban renewal policies. Prof Chan also believes that for long-term development, Macao should focus on collaboration with cities in the western part of the Pearl River in the development high-tech industries in order to create more development opportunities for industries in Macao. Sou Kuai Long, assistant professor (by courtesy) in UM’s FSS, acknowledged the government’s focus on residents’ mental health. Data shows that despite the end of the pandemic, the tendency towards suicide has not declined, and the happiness and life satisfaction of young people in Macao remain below average. These indicate that people are still experiencing significant stress. Prof Sou expressed hope that relevant policies can be improved and implemented to address these concerns. In addition, he believes that the revision of the education system presents an opportunity to include content related to technology and the psychological wellbeing of youth in the curriculum. For example, the government may improve vocational and technical education to improve the perception of ‘technical workers’ among the general public, so as to encourage more young people to consider pursuing careers in these fields.

澳大成功研發新型磁控機器人

澳門大學科技學院機電工程系教授徐青松的研究團隊開發出一種新型磁控可塗抹的按需硬化軟體機器人,具有快速可控硬化和靈活部署的優勢,不僅可以憑藉強大輸出力單獨完成指定任務,還可與現有的手術機器人協同使用,在磁控機器人的設計與應用方面取得重大進展。研究成果已於Science旗下國際知名期刊《研究》發表。

磁控機器人因其無線驅動和控制的特性,在醫療應用中體現出巨大優勢。但在實際臨床應用中,現有的磁控機器人存在功能少、輸出力小、結構剛度小等局限性。因此,磁控機器人急需更加靈活、更強自適應性的部署策略和設計方法,才能充分發揮出其效能。徐青松研究團隊開發的磁控機器人具有自身硬度快速可控切換的能力,可以靈活地黏附在各種物體表面,並提供強大的磁控輸出力。該研究結果進一步實現磁控機器人取得更強大的操控功能。

研究團隊的實驗結果表明,採用磁性顆粒和非牛頓流體軟材料的混合物來製作磁控機器人可以實現可編程硬化、可控黏附、柔軟可重構等特性。通過施加外部磁場,借助磁控機器人的黏附和磁驅動,重量1克的磁控機器人能夠抓起自身300倍重量的物體。該磁控機器人可以黏附在各種物體的表面,賦予其磁性驅動的能力,從而提升操控性能。磁控機器人能夠與傳統手術機器人一起協同使用,為其提供精準的磁驅動導航和控制,以及提供更多樣化的功能,包括黏附抓取等相關操作。此外,磁控機器人還可通過施加快速變化的無線磁場來激活當中的非牛頓特性,使其可以在流體和固體形態之間進行實時可控的切換,從而快速實現硬度切換。

徐青松研究團隊開發的磁控機器人具有以下優點:1. 具有超柔軟的結構和良好的黏附特性,可以實現靈活的部署,並可與現有的手術設備協同使用;2. 其黏附特性可以由外加磁場可控調整,有助於實現更加多樣化的功能;3. 能夠實現快速的可編程硬化,提高自身機械剛度與硬度,並且提供強大輸出力。團隊表示,設計出功能強大的磁控機器人在先進醫療應用方面具有重要價值,所提出的設計思想與應用策略對於相關研究具有重要的借鑒意義。

UM develops novel magnetic soft robots with on-demand hardening

A research team led by Xu Qingsong, professor in the Department of Electromechanical Engineering of the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Macau (UM), has developed a novel on-demand hardening magnetic soft robot. With the advantages of on-demand hardening and flexible deployment, the robot not only can perform a given task alone with high output forces, but can also be used in conjunction with existing surgical robots, representing a significant advance in the design and application of magnetically controlled robots. The research results have been published in Research, an internationally renowned journal under Science.

Magnetically controlled robots have shown great advantages in medical applications because of their wireless actuation and control characteristics. However, in actual clinical applications, existing magnetically controlled soft robots have limitations, such as limited functions, small output force, and low structural stiffness. Therefore, there is an urgent need for more flexible and adaptive deployment strategies and design methods to fully utilise the performance of magnetically controlled robots and improve their functions. The magnetically controlled soft robot developed by Prof Xu’s research team is capable of switching its stiffness quickly and in a controlled manner, adhering flexibly to the surface of various objects, and providing powerful output forces. The research results offer a promising way to enable magnetically controlled robots to perform more powerful control functions.

The research team’s experimental results show that using a mixture of magnetic particles and non-Newtonian fluidic soft materials to produce magnetic soft robots can achieve programmable hardening, controlled adhesion, soft reconfiguration, and other properties. By applying an external magnetic field, a 1-gram magnetic soft robot can leverage its adhesion and magnetic actuation to pick up an object 300 times its weight. The soft robot can adhere to a variety of object surfaces, enabling the ability of magnetic actuation with improved performance. The soft robot can be used in conjunction with traditional surgical robots to provide precise magnetic navigation and control, as well as a broader range of functions, including adhesion grasping and related operations. In addition, the non-Newtonian properties of the soft robot can be activated by applying a rapidly changing wireless magnetic field. This enables the robot to change between fluid and solid forms in real time and a controlled manner, facilitating swift liquid-solid phase transitions.

The magnetic soft robot developed by Prof Xu’s research team has the following advantages: 1) It has an ultra-soft structure and good adhesion properties that allow flexible deployment, and it can be used in collaboration with existing surgical equipment; 2) Its adhesion properties can be controlled and adjusted by an external magnetic field, which helps perform more functions; 3) It can achieve swift programmable hardening and improve its mechanical strength and stiffness, and provide significant output forces. According to the research team, the realisation of a powerful magnetically controlled robot is of great value for advanced medical applications, and the proposed design ideas and utilisation strategies have reference significance for research in the field.

Prof Xu Qingsong is the corresponding author of the study, and Xu Zichen, a PhD student in the Department of Electromechanical Engineering of UM’s Faculty of Science and Technology, is the first author. PhD student Chen Yuanhe also contributed to the study. 澳大為非小細胞肺癌患者提供精準治療方案

澳門大學健康科學學院教授梁麗嫻的研究團隊揭示了可有效反應非小細胞肺癌(NSCLC)患者對於免疫檢查點抑制劑(ICB)應答率的預測標誌物,可用於早期和及時監測免疫治療療效,能為非小細胞肺癌患者提供一種無創且精準的治療方案。相關研究成果已發表在知名期刊《自然通訊》上。

目前,ICB是NSCLC患者的最後治療選擇之一,雖然其對於腫瘤的抑制效果顯著,但是並不是所有患者都可以從中受益,所以在早期發現和預測治療應答率的標誌物對於患者的選擇至關重要。為了實現ICB治療的更好效果,目前已有很多研究報導了細胞程式死亡受體 -1(PD-1)單抗的預測性標誌物,例如腫瘤浸潤性T細胞的比例、組織活檢中細胞程式死亡配體 -1(PD-L1)的高表達、微衛星不穩定性(MSI)、Kelch樣環氧氯丙烷相關蛋白1(KEAP1) 和絲氨酸/蘇氨酸蛋白激酶11(STK11)的突變以及高腫瘤突變負荷(TMB)。但是這些指標或因觀察時間有限、檢測患者數目不足、缺少客觀生物資訊學統計等的影響,導致對於預測免疫治療應答的指標仍是不盡如人意,其中主要原因是抗PD-1免疫治療在治療週期內是動態變化的過程,因此需要長時間縱向觀察,以追蹤與治療應答率相關的標誌物。目前,全球尚未有可有效預測應答率的無創檢測方法,例如通過抽血檢測應答細胞類型來預測ICB治療療效,梁麗嫻的研究團隊實現了這一點,為初步理解獲得性耐藥的免疫機制提供了方向。

該研究對於25位患者進行了至少30個月的跟蹤,運用前沿的高維度CyTOF和多重細胞因數方法對患者的血液樣品進行檢測,深入探究免疫治療無應答人群的免疫細胞類型以及免疫系統功能特性,通過高維度生物資訊學綜合分析,團隊確定了可以有效預測抗PD-1治療效果的血液生物標誌物。研究發現治療無應答特定免疫細胞亞群的存在,特別是CD8+CD101hiTIM3+(CCT T)細胞,可以有效預測治療的有效性。這項研究的發現對於NSCLC治療的未來發展具有深遠的影響。研究人員通過運用先進技術分析免疫反應,確定了治療有效性的新預測標誌物。這些見解可以指導精準治療,並有助於更好地理解治療抵抗機制。

UM offers precise treatment option for non-small cell lung cancer patients

A research team led by Elaine Leung Lai Han, professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at the University of Macau (UM), has unveiled critical insights into the responding phenotype of the effectiveness of immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapy for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. They identified a set of immune subtypes that are enriched in non-responders to ICB therapy, which can provide a non-invasive and feasible method for early and timely monitoring of treatment response. The research results have been published in the renowned journal Nature Communications.

Although ICB therapy is known to produce durable clinical responses in a selected group of NSCLC patients, not all patients can benefit from it. Therefore, early identification of progression is crucial for treatment selection for patients. To achieve better effectiveness with ICB therapy, parameters indicating favourable response are critically needed. Several predictors of the response to programmed death-1 (PD-1) blockade have been reported, such as the presence of tumour-infiltrating T cells, high programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression in biopsies, microsatellite instability (MSI), Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (KEAP1) and Serine/Threonine kinase 11 (STK11) mutations test and the tumour mutational burden (TMB). However, these parameters are hampered by the limited longitudinal observation window, the small number of parameters, and the lack of systematic, unbiased bioinformatic pipelines, which has resulted in a paucity of indicators predicting response state to date. Longitudinal investigation is important to trace markers associated with acquired resistance since the anti-PD1-mediated immune response is dynamic during treatment cycles. Currently, it is unclear whether non-invasive approaches, such as peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) profiling, can be used to predict responses to ICB therapy by identifying the relevant responding cell types. Prof Leung’s research team has made a breakthrough and their study provides new insights for understanding the underlying immunological mechanisms of primary and acquired resistance.

The study followed 25 NSCLC patients for at least 30 months and used innovative high-dimensional CyTOF and multiplex cytokine approaches to examine patients’ blood samples. This allowed the researchers to gain insights into immune populations, their molecular profiles, and functional characteristics. By analysing immune cell responses, the research team identified key markers that can predict the efficacy of anti-PD-1 therapy. The study discovered that the presence of specific immune cell subsets, in particular CD8+CD101hiTIM3+ (CCT T) cells, can predict treatment efficacy. The findings have far-reaching implications for the future development of NSCLC treatment. By utilising advanced techniques to analyse the immune response, the researchers have identified novel predictive markers for treatment efficacy. These insights shed light on precision therapy and contribute to a better understanding of treatment resistance mechanisms.
