Health Tips (May 2024): Store and Discard Medicine Properly

親愛的同事及同學們：

很多人都會明白藥物必須依照醫生的指示服用，否則可能會影響藥效，甚至產生不良副作用。另一方面，儲存藥物及棄置不需要的藥物也有很多需要注意的事項。

儲存藥物

  • 藥物要鎖在藥箱內。
  • 不宜把藥物放在儲存食物的容器內。避免讓兒童接觸到藥物，以致意外吞下。
  • 一般藥物應儲存在陰涼乾燥的地方，但有部份藥物如胰島素製劑及加水調配的抗生素，則應存在雪櫃內，但勿儲存於冰格內。
  • 切勿將藥物轉入其他藥物瓶內或將多種藥物放入同一個藥瓶內。

棄置藥物

留意藥物的有效期，過期或已變質的藥物應按衛生局的指引棄置到衛生局轄下各衛生中心或仁伯爵綜合醫院的藥物收集箱。胡亂棄置藥物不但有機會被人拾取或誤服，更有機會破壞生態環境。

 Dear colleagues and students,

It is well understood that we should take medicine according to the doctor’s advice to avoid ineffective treatment or adverse effects. On the other hand, we should store medicine carefully, as well as discard spoiled medicine properly. The important notes below are worth our attention:

Storage of Medicine

  • Always keep medicine in a designated cabinet with a lock.
  • Don’t store medicine in food bottles. You should keep medicine out of reach of the children.
  • Medicine in general should be kept in a cool and dry place, but some of them, such as insulin products and some liquid antibiotics, should be kept in the refrigerator but not in the freezer.
  • Never put medicine in containers that are designated for other medicine. Never put different kinds of medicine in one bottle.

 

Disposal of Medicine

Check the expiry date of the medicine. Discard expired or spoiled medicine in the collection boxes located in Health Centres or Hospital Conde de São Januário of Health Bureau, according to the advice of Health Bureau. If the medicine is discarded improperly, it may be picked up by somebody or taken by mistake. The ecological environment may also be affected.

5.17 Blood Pressure Check Activity

澳門特別行政區政府衛生局建議年滿18歲或以上人士都應至少每年測量血壓一次，關注自己及家人的健康。適逢5月17日是世界高血壓日，大家一起參與｢5.17血壓齊齊CHECK｣活動，詳情如下：

內容：
1) 於5月17日，年滿18歲或以上的澳大教職員及學生可到澳大醫療中心(N8-G002)免費測量血壓，安健及環境事務辦公室將向衛生局報告該日測量血壓的總人數。
2) 歡迎大家將測量血壓的照片上傳到社交媒體與大家分享，標籤#517世界高血壓日、#517血壓齊齊check、#活力健康站，讓更多人關注自己的血壓健康。

Health Bureau of Government of Macao S.A.R. suggests everyone aged 18 or over to measure blood pressure at least once a year. As 17 May is the World Hypertension Day, let’s join the “5.17 Blood Pressure Check” activity with details below:

Content: 
1) On 17 May 2024, UM staff and students aged 18 or over may measure their blood pressure at Medical Center of UM (N8-G002) for free. Office of Health, Safety and Environmental Affairs will then report the total number of people who have measured blood pressure. 
2) You are all welcome to upload and share your photos when measuring blood pressure on social media using hashtags #17MayWorldHypentensionDay, #17MayBloodPressureCheck, #HealthClub, so as to raise more people’s awareness of their blood pressure status.

The healthcare system in Macao is developing rapidly. The Islands Healthcare Complex – Macao Medical Center of Peking Union Medical College Hospital (commonly known as Macao Union Hospital) is established by the Government of Macao S.A.R. with the support of the central government. Healthcare services will be provided to the Macao residents as well as overseas travelers in the near future. In view of this, Office of Health, Safety and Environmental Affairs cordially invites staff and students to visit the hospital to get familiar with its facilities as well as services before it commences operation. Please refer to the details below:

Content: Participants will take shuttle bus from UM campus to Macao Union Hospital. Representatives from the hospital will introduce the facilities and services in the hospital.  Participants will then take shuttle bus again to return to UM campus.

Health Tips (April 2024): Donate blood to save lives, EASY and SIMPLE!

親愛的同事及同學們：

捐血可以讓身患重病、徘徊於死亡邊緣的人重獲新生。我們從中所得到的喜悅，是難以言喻的。但一些謬誤可能會令大家對捐血卻步，以下是有關捐血的小知識及過往活動相片讓大家參閱。本學年最後一次澳大捐血日將於4月18日在人文學院(E21A)學習共享空間進行，歡迎大家踴躍參與 (活動詳情) 。


捐血痛不痛?難不難?
捐血針頭穿刺皮膚時會有瞬間刺痛，一旦穿過皮膚並固定就不痛了，和打針類似。

捐血前有哪些事項要留意?
(1) 不宜空肚捐血，否則可引起頭暈等不良反應；
(2) 捐血前喝適量飲料，可避免捐出的血液過濃；
(3) 捐血前一晚應有充足睡眠。

捐血會令身體變虛弱嗎?
血液的收集量是根據捐血者體重來決定的。一般45-50公斤者可捐血350毫升；50公斤或以上者可捐血450毫升。人體內的血液約有一半是水份。所以，當您捐出350毫升的血液時，其中有180毫升是水份。對健康人來說，造血器官生產足夠的血液來維持日常生活是輕而易舉的事。正常人的造血系統每時每刻都在製造血液細胞，以替代不斷代謝的血細胞。

捐血後多久才可做運動?|
捐血後稍用力壓迫針孔處5分鐘止血，休息10-15分鐘後即可活動，如須劇烈運動或提取重物者，建議在24小時後進行，以免造成瘀血。

 Dear colleagues and students,

Blood donation can help patients with severe illness to get their lives back. This kind of happiness cannot be described in words. However, people may be discouraged to donate blood if they believe in some fallacies. Here are some truths about blood donation and the activity photos in the past few weeks. The last Blood Donation Day in this academic year will be held on 18 April at Learning Commons in FAH (E21A) (activity e-bulletin). You are all welcome to support and donate blood.


Is blood donation painful or difficult?
Donors may feel a little discomfort during venesection. Similar to injection, once the needle is fixed at a position, donors will not feel painful anymore.

What do donors need to be aware of before blood donation?
(1) Do not have an empty stomach before donation. Otherwise, donors may feel dizzy
(2) Drink sufficient liquid before blood donation to avoid the blood being too concentrated.
(3) Have a good sleep the night before.

Will donors become weak after donating blood?
The amount of blood collected is based on the body weight of the donors. In general, donors weight about 45-50kg can donate 350ml of blood, while 50kg or above can donate 450ml of blood. About half of the human blood is made up of water. Thus, among 350ml of blood donated, 180ml of which is water. For healthy people, it is easy for blood-making organs to produce sufficient blood to maintain their daily lives. The blood-making organs are producing blood every second to replace the dead blood cells.

After donating blood, how long should one need to wait before doing exercises?
After donating blood, press the venepuncture site with the finger lightly for 5 minutes to stop bleeding. After taking a rest of 10-15 minutes, one may resume normal activities. However, it is advised that one should do strenuous activities or carry heavy items after 24 hours to avoid blood stagnation.
