Competition Highlights

UM Badminton Team won 3 Bronzes
at “2024 Macao Badminton Open”

The 2024 Macao Badminton Open, organized by Badminton Federation of Macau, was held from 19-22 & 25-27 at Macau University of Science and Technology Stadium. A total of 150 local contestants from 8 badminton clubs, 5 higher education institutions and 3 high schools have participated in the tournament.

UM Badminton Team has sent 9 members to participate in 5 events, including Men’s Singles (男子單打), Women’s Singles (女子單打), Men’s Doubles (男子雙打), Women’s Doubles (女子雙打) and Mixed Doubles (混合雙打). The overall results are

Activity Highlights

UMSU Rowing Club won 2 Golds & 1 Sliver
at “2024 Hong Kong Rowing Indoor Championships & Charity Rowathon” 

2024 Hong Kong Rowing Indoor Championships & Charity Rowathon, organized by Hong Kong China Rowing Association, was held from 24-25 Feb in Hong Kong. UMSU Rowing Club has sent 8 club members to participate in the individual and group event. Finally, UMSU Rowing Club got 2 gold medals and 1 silver medal.

Highlights of Training and Competition Experiences by Participants

UM Fencing Team Fun Day was Successfully Held

The UM Fencing Team Fun Day was held successfully on 28 Feb at N8 – Sports Pavilion and there was a total of 200 UM students participating in this activity.

Office of Sports Affairs (OSA) organized this university team Fun Day with the aim to let UM students to interact with the university team members and to experience team training through designated teaching sessions.

On the day, in order to let participants know better about our UM Fencing Team (currently 23 Team Members), team members have prepared a brief introduction about UM Fencing Team and shared the fun and challenge of their team training time. The Team Coach Lok Man Tak also joined the activity so as to support our team members, Team Coach Lok has shared the past team achievements and the upcoming competitions. Before the introduction to each team member, two ice-breaking games with fencing equipment and the relevant element were arranged, student participants were invited to play the game together with Fencing Team members, and they were become more active and being attracted by team members.

Fencing is a combat sport in which two athletes use swords to attack and defend against one another with the aim of striking their opponent in order to score points. The three disciplines of fencing are the foil (花劍), the epee (重劍), and the sabre (佩劍). Each discipline uses a different kind of blade and has unique rules. The Team Member has shared the history about the origin of this sports, while the Team Coach Lok has shared the knowledge and the rules about fencing, participants were become more clear about the rules and the skills. A performing match was arranged with rules explanation. After that, participants were invited to experience their team training contents, including basic skills and technical skills. Finally, team members also arranged opportunities to participants for the competition experience.

Both the participants and fencing team members enjoyed a lot in the Fun Day with positive feedback.
