Course Content : Basic climbing skills and belay methods
– Basic climbing technique
– Basic equipment used in sports climbing
– Protection techniques and knots used in sports climbing
– Safety guidelines for sports climbing
– Rock climbing experience

*Students who attend the WHOLE activity and arrive ON TIME will be given 1 PE hours (late arrival, early leave or leave the venue during the event for over 10 minutes will NOT be given PE hours).
*Students are required to do check in/out with UM student ID card, the name of the attended student MUST be the same as the registered name.
*The email of registration result will be sent to your UM email address before the activity day, please make sure you fill in the CORRECT UM email address (@um.edu.mo).
*Once registration is confirmed, any absent might affect the application priority of his/her registration for future sports activities.

Tai Chi Experience Class on 20 Nov

To promote traditional Chinese martial arts, UM Office of Sports Affairs (OSA) is going to organize “Tai Chi Experience Class”. The traditional Chinese martial art exercise is unique for the routines of slow controlled movements, offer participants an excellent way to relieve stress, enhance mindfulness and gain wellness. We are honored to invite Professor Stanley Sai-chuen HUI as the instructor of the class. Prof. Hui is the College Master of Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College and Professor in Sports Science and P.E. In one-hour session, participants will receive an introduction to Tai Chi, observe a demonstration, and engage in hands-on practice. The participants will learn how to effectively coordinate breathing with movement.

LENG KA HEI (Team Captain, FSS/CKLC) was awarded the title of “Best Female Scorer”
UM Korfball Team participate at “13th All China Korfball Championship”
The “13th All China Korfball Championship” was held from 10 to 14 Oct at Southwest University in Chongqing, There were 16 teams and over 200 athletes participating in this championship and the participating teams were came from Hong Kong, Macao and different regions from mainland China respectively. A total of 7 members from the UM Korfball Team were selected to represent the university in this competition. The team members showcased excellent coordination and teamwork, demonstrating the strong team spirit of UM sports teams. After 3 days of intense matches, the team won the 5th runner-up. Team Captain LENG KA HEI (FSS/CKLC) was awarded the title of “Best Female Scorer” by her outstanding individual skills.

“UM CICA – Swimming Pool Challenge Fun 2024” was held successfully on 25 Sep 2024 at UM Sports Complex (N8) and there was a total of 80 UM students participating in this activity.
In order to provide a platform for 10 residential colleges (RC) to have interaction and create great team bonding, Office of Sports Affairs (OSA) and Committee on Inter-College Affairs (CICA) co-organized this Challenge Fun activity, students could interact each other through designated team games.
A total of 10 RC teams participated in this activity for 4 games. The games showed their outstanding teamwork and impressive physical fitness performance, while the Cheng Yu Tung College (CYTC) and Lui Che Woo College (LCWC) team has shown stunning performance with the highest accumulative score among all teams and joint the Champion, Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College (HFPJC) got the 1st Runner-up and Choi Kai Yau College (CKYC) got the 2nd Runner-up respectively in this activity. The participants enjoyed a lot in the activity with positive feedback.

顏詠希 很榮幸能成為CICA水上挑戰賽的一名工作人員，可以參與到整個遊戲過程。無論是我們的工作過程還是參與者們的表現，都讓我感受到了團隊協作的重要性。 同舟共濟揚帆起。乘風破浪萬里航。光靠自己是無法贏得比賽的，只有當大家都把自己放在整體里互相配合才能達到更優的效果。就比如說第一輪遊戲“極速小黃鴨”，只有左右配合划槳才能快速前進。而讓我更有感觸的是，無論做什麼都要有恆心，相信自己。道阻且長，行則將至。即使開局不利，但只要堅持下去，一定能有機會扳回一局。

2024 UM Swimming Pool Challenge Fun (UM international Students )
Office of Sports Affairs (OSA) and Sports Association (SPA) of UMSU will jointly co-organize the “2024 UM Swimming Pool Challenge Fun” for UM international students on 23 Oct (Wed), 15:00-17:00 at UM Swimming Pool (N8).
The activity is conducted in the form of recreational sports competition, all participating teams will compete against each other through a series of games on the day of the event. The top 3 teams with the highest cumulative scores will be awarded the first, second, and third places, respectively.
Maximum Quota: 10 teams (first-come, first-served basis)
Team Size: Maximum of 5 participants, including at least 2 male and 2 female participants.
PE Hour: 2 PE hours will be granted for students who attend the whole activity

Activity Highlights
The Fencing Experience (For UM International Students) was successfully held
A Fencing Experience organized by OSA was successfully held on 15 Sep, attracted a total of 15 students to participate. The activity not only provided an opportunity to experience the sport of fencing but also provided a platform of cultural exchange for UM international students from different countries.
During the activity, members of the UM Fencing Team and UMSU Fencing Club acted as student coaches, providing guidance and support to the participants. First, the student coaches explained the basic techniques and safety guidance of fencing to the participants. In the practical session, the students divided into groups for skill training, everyone’s enthusiastic participation created an atmosphere filled with laughter and joy.
Everyone enjoyed the fencing experience and provided positive feedback, the activity not only provided physical challenge but also facilitated cultural exchange, everyone encouraged and supported each other, forming friendships and learning from each other during the activity.

Despite this, even those parts were enjoyable and we had some fun. And finally, the best part began. The practice of our sword strikes by hitting the mannequin was really helpful for us to catch the right movement. And out little duels were so much fun and felt like such an accomplishment after the 3 hours of practice. So after all, we had such a great time. It gave all of us the opportunity to discover fencing, a sport that none of us had ever tried before. And for some, it even made them get a potential new passion. The activity left a positive impression on everyone involved, thank you for this ! |

Daphné Francine T. Raes (Right) We started with a series of dynamic exercises for an engaging and energetic start. We ended the warming up with a funny ball game. we transitioned into practicing the core movements and positions of fencing. This part was crucial as it reinforced our technique and form. Next, we moved on to training with the mannequins, which was an excellent way to apply what we had learned. The highlight of the day was definitely the one-on-one battles. We put our skills to the test, practicing our newly learned techniques. |

Activity Highlights
UM Korfball Fun Day was successfully held
The UM Korfball Fun Day which organized by the Office of Sports Affairs (OSA) and co-organized by UMSU Korfball Club was successfully held on 10 Sep at Sports Pavilion in Sports Complex (N8), with over 60 students participating in the activity.
The Korfball Fun Day began with an introduction to korfball, a professional coach from the Netherlands, Mr. Atte van Haastrecht, who shared the background and development of the sport, allowing participants to gain a better understanding of korfball. After that, the UMSU Korfball Club led the participants to take part in group games to experience the sport. During the activity, members of the UMSU Korfball Club also held a demonstration match, which captivated the attending students. In the final part of the activity, some students formed teams to compete in friendly matches, and everyone’s enthusiastic participation created an atmosphere filled with laughter and joy.

The team had a fantastic spirit—everyone was friendly and eager to help, especially with translating the demonstration from Chinese to English. It made the learning process much smoother.
