The UM English Debating Team (EDT) recently concluded a highly successful co-training on March 1, 2025, bringing together debaters from various esteemed universities in the Greater Bay Area (GBA). This collaborative event included participants from the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong Shenzhen, and the Macau University of Science and Technology.
The co-training sessions addressed the need for junior debaters to practice with peers from different institutions, enriching their skill sets with diverse debating styles and strategies. Coach Mr. Chau Wai Yin, Vincent who is a renowned international judge and coach, provided invaluable guidance, helping participants refine their techniques and gain new insights. The co-training initiative received strong support from the collaborating universities. In addition to the senior members of UM EDT, experienced debaters from collaborating universities greatly contributed to the adjudication for mock debates.
Beyond skill enhancement, the initiative emphasized friendship and collaboration among debaters, fostering lasting relationships that extend beyond competition. This event sets a positive precedent for future collaborations within the GBA debate community, aiming to enhance the region’s debating quality.
The success of this event underscores the significance of collaborative efforts in developing young debaters and strengthening the GBA debate circuit. The UM English Debating Team looks forward to more such initiatives, committed to nurturing talent and building a supportive community for all debaters.
